John Lackey and our middle infielders follow up

Ok, I posted about a month and a half ago, then  Rev Halo Fan and his followers jumping on me for defending Lackey and asking what could happen in the feature with four middle infielders.  As I recalled Matt Welch posted that Lackey had a poor ending to the 2008 season. I posted, he pitched well in the playoffs and nearly tossed a no-hitter in Boston. LAckey will be fine, he just needs a couple of starts as he did not have a spring training. Then we had Rev and his followers jumping on me, different opinions are not endorsed on this board. I do thank the very few who has stood up for me and has brought the same very point up.

I posted we had four middle infielders, Kendrick, Ayber, Maicer, and Wood. What will happen, will one be moved? Will Kendrick be traded? Well the post is removed, not shocking, and in the post, Rev called me an ASS.  Good question I thought. Rev, why is the post removed?  Clicking on my post, the page says 404: the page you are looking for does not exist.

In summary, looks like Scoscia, took care of the four middle infielder problem, moving  Howie and Wood down. As for Lackey, one run today, and is pitching well. July and August I predict he will be one of the top 4 pitchers in the American League.  Im sure, Rev will remove this post or have some negative comment. An ANgel fan since 1979.

we have four middle infielders, who gets traded?

Man I try to be as open-minded as I can be.......

but ummmmmmmmm

We still have the same number of middle infielders as before since S-Rod took Howie’s spot…….

Considering like you said you’ve been an Angel Fan since 1979 you would think you would have developed a little bit of a thicker skin, seeing as what you’ve had to endure with the team……

How you could let a few people who disagree with you bother you this much is kinda troubling.

Are you wanting a cookie for being right or what?

Im not sure what the expected results from your post are……but I doubt with the way you worded it you’re gonna get it.

But…….you are probably gonna get it. (If you’re picking up what Im laying down)

I won’t erase this as you are finally writing at a fifth grade level. Congratulations.

Now go work on the spelling this month – Scioscia has been here ten years, there is a letter “i” before the first “o”…

along with “Ayber and Maicer” the correct spelling would be Kendricker and Wooder… er… uh… yeah…

battle

Not trying to prove anything except, the immaturity level of some on this site, for jumping on others for their postings. As for grammar, who cares, its readable. Take a look at the post on this site, there is several postings with spelling and grammar errors. What a joke, Rev your rebuttals to my post this year is either calling me an ass, or on my grammar. This is not espn.com, cnnsi.com or the ocregister.com.

To Matt Welch,

I am sorry for the tone when I defended Lackey on your posting. I could of defended lackey in a more positive manner. I do not want to stoop to the levels of others on this site, and this apology should of happened a longtime ago to you. Of course, I still believe lackey is a very good pitcher, and will be our # 1 or # 2 if we are in the play offs again this year.

Apologize to me?

While I appreciate your gesture, I’d save your apologies for Garret Anderson, for suggesting that he took steroids based on evidence exactly as (un)convincing as Steve Garvey’s career statistics. Or Wally Joyner, for your ridiculous statement that “Please, he was great in 1986…but thats it.” Or the God of Truth, for saying John Lackey “nearly tossed a no-hitter in Boston” during the playoffs, when he did no such thing (4 hits in 6 2/3 in Game One; 7 hits in 7 IP in Game 4).

What was objectionable about all three points (and many more like them) was not their tone, but rather their factual inaccuracy. As much as this is just another jackass fan site, it’s also kind of a lot better than that, in part because people make an effort to get things right, and advance the conversation. To the extent that there is any mockery directed at you, it’s really about that and very little else.

Are commas on sale at Ralphs?

To call your own posts “readable” is to confirm that you didn’t write them in Urdu. Otherwise, your excessive use of commas throughout sentences makes your posts much more difficult to read than they should be.

Don’t type a comma every time you pause to think of your next word as you’re writing. It screws up the rhythm of your sentence and makes it more difficult to follow the flow of your thought.

by Stirrups on Jun 28, 2009 12:17 PM PDT reply actions

I recall the thread that is being referenced

From what I recall, CA1 is giving a very incomplete and inaccurate account of what he in fact posted in that thread (and in the subsequent thread regarding Rod Carew). As I recall, CA1’s posts in the prior thread(s) included absurd trade suggestions and a series of statements that all were demonstrated to be incorrect with reference to statistics and game logs from last season.

If the tone of some of the responses was inappropriate, that is unfortunate. I also recall, however, that CA1 was fairly aggressive in his tone as well.

In any event, no one was or is suggesting that we should do away with Lackey — at least not until he becomes a free agent after the season. Whether Lackey remains healthy this season and consistently performs at a dominant level also is entirely speculative. I am confident that every single on this site very much hopes that he does. It is telling, however, that CA1 needed to wait a full month and a half to return to write his “I told you so” post, and that he is doing so on the basis of one start in an NL park against an NL West team.

Point being: Lackey could pitch complete game shutouts in every appearance this season, and that would not change the fact that CA1 made numerous statements that were factually incorrect at the time they were made and that were, as I recall, just not very nice.

You might be correct about the trades

I don’t remember the specifics, only general impressions of the threads. It really is beside the point. The reason that you were taken to task was for the factually incorrect statements (which were the subject matter of Matt Welch’s posts), and the provocative and unnecessary name-calling. As I said, if others started it or were worse than you, then that is unfortunate.

My advice: stop reliving a thread from nearly two months ago.

who was shocked that Weaver was pulled?

I am glad too though that Lackey seems to finally be pulling it back together.

by TheTypingFiend on Jun 28, 2009 4:55 PM PDT reply actions

GA and steroids

There is nothing wrong with that question. None of knows the answer. The sad reality of the past 15 years is that you now have to take a close look at anyone who had significant peaks in performance followed by sharp declines.

I don’t begrudge anyone who took steroids either. If I had been in their position, I probably would have done it too.

by Brody on Jun 28, 2009 6:49 PM PDT up reply actions

I "have to" do no such thing

And I know enough about the patterns of peaks and declines to say that there is nothing — nada, zilch, rien — “significant” about the shape of G.A.’s peak or the sharpness of his decline.

by mattwelch on Jun 28, 2009 7:37 PM PDT up reply actions

thetypingfiend, if you remember my gems at least get it right

I posted Weaver was pulled after the 7th inning and why not let him go out and see how he pitches to the first couple of batters. Also, do not be such a homer. How do you know the GA was not on steroids? As fans we can only question until the “list” is fully released in which now players are asking for the list to be released of who was cheating. Crap, it would not shock me if Vladdy was on roids. Where is all his power now? By the way, where is your gems? What post have you created?

This are the awesomzerist hilarity on Web!

One point that I found myself agreeing with on was the issue of pitch counts and complete games. The very interesting thing is that after the posts, Sosh took a hint and our starters found themselves completing more games. With higher pitch counts I might add.
That is where Ca1FORNIA ANGELS should gloat the most. Not about some random post nobody read.
Now that the bullpen has pulled itself together, the need for complete games diminishes.
I was enjoying some smug satisfaction (as well as some high quality IPA’s ) with the way the whole for complete game/against complete game posts played out on the mound, and in the CG column at Angels.com (or whatever)

by Big Bad, 'Vlad'! on Jun 29, 2009 9:55 PM PDT reply actions

Or maybe

the starters were pitching well and keeping their pitch counts reasonable, and thus were able to complete those games. This stuff is dictated by the guys on the mound, not the one in the dugout.
