Rangers Request Release Waivers On Padilla
Ken Rosenthal says the Rangers have requested outright release waivers on starter Vicente Padilla. He has a 5.57 ERA so far this year; the release may have been connected to him plunking Mark Teixeira twice yesterday.

Do they keep stats
on how many times a pitcher hits a specific batter?
Nick, you will always be an Angel. And you will be missed.

Finally!
Didn’t they do this a few years ago and then bring him back anyway, or am I misremembering?
RIP Nick Adenhart.

Nothing at Lone Star Ball
They’re probably too busy celebrating the May division championship…
Bad move by the Rangers. Padilla is not a very good pitcher, but he’s not horrible, either. He was consistent, predictable mediocrity which has allowed him to win 15 games and 14 games in DFW. That would come in handy, especially in a year such as this when they are contending.
There is more to this.

Padilla has a history of plunking guys
He’s hit Angels five times, but what’s more interesting about him is the fact that he’s been in the top 10 hit batters every year in the last four and six of the last eight, including his 2006 when he led the league. He’s also in the top 10 in wild pitches this year and last. With all this goodness you might expect he’s just not that impressive as a hurler, and seeing as how he’s only had one year with an ERA+ over 100 (2006 with a 102 ERA+), you have to think the Rangers have just plain had enough. He might make a comeback in a more pitcher-friendly park, but it’s hard to imagine that he isn’t close to done at this point.
Witty .sig goes here.

Really?
I remember Peter Gammons said the ’02 All-Star Game was called because Padildo was drinking in between innings and ended up too wasted to finish the game… which is actually pretty funny

Shocking but good choice by the Rangers...
Padilla sucks in many many ways. I was listening to Colin Cowherd call for the Rangers to drop him this morning. Can’t believe they actually did.

you can bet
Cowherd got word, he would never (A) focus on a team besides Bahstin and New Yahk except in passing … and (B) make a briliant suggestion like that.

Cowherd is one of the worst "reporters" on the radio.
Seriously, he really, really sucks.
RIP Nick. We will miss you!

Lord, do I despise Rome and his entire schtick.
Brandon Wood is slated for 2010, and no amount of whining by us is gonna change that. So evolve, already!

this is true...
I dont think the guy has ever said “Angels” in his life. We’d have to pitch three no-hitters in a row against the Skanks in NY for him to recognize us….

Apparently Nolan Ryan
actually looked at Padilla for the first time and said, “Damn! We can’t have anyone that ugly on our team!”

Certain new members of this board thinks it's because he can't throw 160 pitches a game
by Captain Awesome on Jun 4, 2009 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, not 160,
But my understanding is that Ryan is trying to install the “old school” work ethic in the Rangers pitchers, instead of the “5 and done” mentality.
