1961 Angels
Hi everyone. I was just checking who was still around from the '61 team. Somewhere on here somebody said that would be great if Arte would bring back the inaugural Angels for a day to celebrate them. And I agree. I figured some here might like to know.
Ken McBride, Eli Grba, Ted Bowsfield, Ron Moeller, Ryne Duren, Johnny James, Jerry Casale, Tex Clevenger, Jack Spring, Ned Garver, Russ Heman, Dean Chance, Lee Thomas, Albie Pearson, Earl Averill Jr., Ken Aspromonte, George Thomas, Rocky Bridges, Eddie Yost, Gene Leek, Bob Cerv, Billy Moran, Tom Satriano, Julio Becquer, Ken Hamlin, Buck Rodgers, Jim Fregosi, Chuck Tanner, Dan Ardell, and Lou Johnson
These guys are still around. And it would be awesome to see some of them out there being celebrated. There maybe 1 or 2 I missed but all the rest of the players from that first year are gone now. Come on Arte and bring these guys out while they're still here.
Just an FYI of stuff I looked up. Use as you will.
Also sorry if any errors...

Thanks
I agree. Let’s party. Theme song:
My favorite #1 from 1961 – Take Good care Of My Baby
- Bobby Vee
I was only 3, but I remember it well.
Or maybe not.
Angel Pitching (Adenhart), Angel Defense - get past that.
Great idea
Thanks for doing that research. They could also get Pat “Paraquat” Kelley to represent his dad, Bob Kelley, who was the Angels’ lead announcer back then.
Now THAT'S one I didn't know.
We probably need an entire off-topic Paraquat Kelley thread.
Guest: “Pat Haden’s getting bald.”

I seem to recall when he was a catcher for the Angels...
…he was referred to as “Bob” Rodgers. I believe “Buck” came after his playing career was over…not sure why or exactly when it changed.
Symmetry exists soon - A big 50th season celebration next year
I would think that would be a perfect time
Nick Adenhart - 1986 - 2009 R.I.P.
Dan Ardell
is married to Jean Ardell, who has a great book on women in baseball, Breaking Into Baseball: Women and the National Pastime. I got a copy of this about three years ago and still haven’t read it, but it’s got some fascinating stuff in it, in particular about how women — “Baseball Annies” in particular — were a hidden reason why integration of the majors was delayed as long as it was, the fear being miscegenation.
Witty .sig goes here.
A wonderful idea for sure.
If this reunion happens, hopefully the 61 team members will wear their hats that had the white Halo, embroidered around the top……..loved those hats.
Outfielder Ken Hunt, one of five players who hit at least 20 HRs that inaugural season, is not on the list………is he still living ?
