Nelson Cruz in for Torii Hunter = FU Figgy

Here's the latest: Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz has been added to the American League All-Star team as an injury replacement for Torii Hunter.  This means Chone Figgins is left out in the cold and the only Angel on the All-Star team is Fuentes.  What crap.  Does this mean that Joe Maddon is officially dead to us?  Or is the All-Star Game so insignificant in the larger scheme of the baseball season that we should just appreciate that Figgy gets a nice rest so he can mow down the Rays when they next head into town?

Personally, the ASG just makes me pissed off because it is so heavily biased against the Angels even in years when individual Angels are so absolutely deserving.  But that's me.  Thoughts?

At this point

I don’t even know if I’ll be watching the All-Star Game. I know it would mean a lot for Figgins to be there, but I’d rather him be rested. I hope Maddon doesn’t even use Fuentes.

I don’t remember too many Angels in the 2002 World Series and this team has a few parallels to this team.

I agree with Jay Cal. Great, tire out Nelson Cruz. It will help our chances in the division.

I love this team.

ooooh

especially if Cruz participates, then wins the HR derby, with something like a hundred swings or more. that’d be great…

I'm thinking maybe Maddon hates Scioscia....

I mean maybe I’m wrong but all those picks he made, be it players or coaches, seems almost intentionally saying F.U. Angels, and F.U. Scioscia. So yeah…

Joe Maddon is dead to me!

+1

Maddon was interviewed on ESPN, and I got that vibe when he was asked about managers that influenced him. He heaped praise on Mauch, deservingly, but mentioned Sosh only in passing, basically in the same sentence as Lach.

Maybe I was reading too much into it,..but that was my vibe.

He did speak highly of the Angels organization however.

What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

Maddon did try to pick the Soth as a coach

But Selig nixed the idea because Scioscia will likely be coaching next year’s game in Anaheim.

Oh and this probably will be the first All-Star game I miss in some time.

it's not maddon's fault!

i read somewhere that cruz was the second highest on the players votes (torii was first), so that’s why he got the nod.

i’m bummed that figgy isn’t going, but i think it was out of maddon’s hands.

Brandon Wood, Bobby Wilson ... RAKE

We have been screwed on the ASG. Show the rest of them how to play baseball. Show what you can do. Man up. Angels baseball the rest of the way.

Rivera or Jermaine Dye

They were the most deserving after Hunter. Why put Cruz in?

by ryanfea on Jul 10, 2009 4:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Because Cruz is apparently has more power.

Whatever. When the ASG is all said and done, and when the season comes to a close, we’ll show ’em.

Too much stupid whining in this thread

Amazing how quick some are to imagine some slight when none exists.

Take a moment and read up on the subject if you truly don’t know: Torii Hunter was going because he was a top vote-getter from the player votes.

Cruz is going because he finished behind Hunter in that balloting. Cruz replaced Hunter as a player chosen by the players.

Maddon has nothing to do with any of this. Figgins was never eligible.

I've got an idea...

Why don’t we round up all the west coast fans to formally boycott the ASG until this shit stops.

Angels had the best record in baseball last year and had poor representation in the ASG
Doyers have the best record this year and got snubbed pretty hard too.

Coincidence? I bet coaches from both leagues are basically told by management to feature players from the big media markets for obvious reasons. The shit is rigged I tell ya.

God needed a starter. RIP #34

Guys...Madden didn't have a say in this

As Clutch already pointed out, Cruz was the next highest vote getter among outfielders. That’s why he got the nod. Madden had nothing to do with it

RIP Nick. We will miss you!

ASG, meh...

Let our boys rest up. And it’s also a good excuse to rest the retinas from the glare of the screen, get a breath of fresh summer evening air next week, and prepare for the slog to a challenging, entertaining and, hopefully, successful second half.

That is, of course, unless you cannot escape the enchantment of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver gettin’ hot and heavy in the booth in St. Louis…
