Figgins IN
Chone Figgins made it to the All-Star Game, after all. The Angels third baseman, who finished third in last week's fan vote for the final roster spot, was added to the American League roster today when Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria pulled out of the game because of an infected ring finger on his right hand.
- LA TIMES
Texas Ranger Michael Young will replace Longoria in the starting lineup. Figgins is a reserve. It is his first All Star nod.

Nice.
Very happy to see Figgy represent. Maddon really had no other option, but still…
I'm happy for Figgins
But I’d rather have our team well rested for the start of the second season. Time to turn it up. Does Figgins get the All-Star Bonus?
RIP Nick Adenhart 4/9/09
He does not have an all-star performance clause in his contract, at least according to Cot’s:

He will get it
Arte is that kind of guy. If not immediately, it will be added into his (hopefully) next deal with the Angels.

I just saw this
I was hoping I’d get the fanshot scoop. And I would have, if I hadn’t just taken a 30 minute Starbucks break. Kudos to Chone.
I was just gonna post this!
This is great news for the little guy, I hope they televise the “Ozzie Smith” flip he promised.

funny quote from LSB
Figgins, huh?
What, B.J. Upton or Gabe Gross weren’t available/interested? :-)

Good for LSB

Awesome...everyone watch for the Ozzie flip...

Figgy vs. Shawn Johnson
Flip off time.
Anyway, congrats to Figgy, I was going to post this, couldn’t find an article anywhere though.

He's gotta do the flip
Assuming he gets there on time, and gets in the game, he’s gotta go the flip. He laid down the gauntlet, he’s flippin’ Figgins.

Does he know how to do one?

Woohoo!
I sure hope that Figgins is used effectively. He’s a difference maker.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
I wasn't going to watch the game
but now I will.
Hell yeah! A much deserved selection! Tear it up Chone!
He definitely needed to be recognized for his season thus far.
Hooters anyone?

i can imagine the conversation...
the good news is you made the all-star team, the bad news is you might not get here in time to play.
No worries
I’m sure they told Figgy way before we all found out, or the decision was made yesterday and Figgy had advanced warning.
Years later, Clutch still needs to chill.

All Star MVP!
Watch him pull it off. That would be awesome.
This season is my best chance to get called out of the stands to pitch.
I know we're a little biased but...
is Michael Young a better 3rd baseman than Figgy? Young seems like a nice guy but I’m just curious.
God needed a starter. RIP #34
Young is pretty damned good
plus he was voted in by his peers. The fact that he was moved aside for Elvis makes for sweet revenge.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Glass half full: Figgy made the All-Star team!!
Glass half-empty: Figgy ain’t worth the ring the finger on Longoria’s hand.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
LOL I dont get it either......"the ring the finger" confused me.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also
I forgot you were such a Figgins hater.
Wait, are you trying to make a joke because Longoria had a finger infection? Come on, Dad.
I don't hate Figgy. You know better than that.
I think he is the best utility player in baseball. Not believing that any team should mandate that he be more than that does not mean I hate him.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
Amazing
That the best utility player in baseball has the most runs and the 10th best OBP in the AL. One could almost make the argument that with numbers like that, he deserves the everyday job he’s been given.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!
And, yeah, it was a joke.
Figgy’s accomplishments this season couldn’t overcome a healthy Longoria ring finger.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.

Worth the ring the finger? Sorry dont get it and it doesnt make sence to me or flow at all.

Typo. Should read "...worth the ring finger..."
Typos happen. Especially in my posts. Deal.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
Great news for Figgy
Too bad he had to endure a stupid second vote, someone getting injured, and all the planets aligning to get in. Looking forward to the flip.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
Apparently Figgy is going to have trouble getting to the game:
Once the initial euphoria wore off for Figgins, who did not hide his disappointment at finishing third in last week’s fan vote for the final AL roster spot, his next thought was this: Can I get to St. Louis in time for the game?
The Angels looked into securing a private jet for Figgins, who remained in Orange County over the All-Star break, but had no luck.
They then booked Figgins on a nonstop flight from Los Angeles to St. Louis that was scheduled to leave LAX at about noon and arrive in St. Louis at about 5:20 p.m. CDT, less than two hours before the scheduled first pitch.
Angels equipment manager Kenny Higdon rushed to the park to pack Figgins’ uniform, gloves and spikes, and a team employee drove the equipment bag to LAX to deliver to Figgins.
Getting Figgins, who is hitting .310 with an AL-leading 68 runs, 16 doubles, seven triples and 27 stolen bases, from the airport in St. Louis to Busch Stadium in time for the game will be a challenge — the airport is 12 1/2 miles from the stadium.
Traffic heading into downtown is expected to be heavy, and there will be extra security because of the presence of President Obama, who is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Figgy may get talked about more than any other player tonight. Leave it to Joe Morgan.

Sounds like Figgy has just become the MLB All-Star equivalent of the NFL draft "Mr. Irrelevent"!
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
I flew to STL out of SNA last month.
Wonder why he had to go out of LAX. Seems silly. And it is a pain to get downtown from the airport. There’s massive construction and road closures all over between the two points. Took us about 40 minutes to get from STL to the Crowne Plaza (overlooks Busch) on a Monday evening.
by ReggieBullits on Jul 14, 2009 2:07 PM PDT up reply actions
?
AA was the only carrier that had a direct flight from SNA to STL. They stopped that route about a year ago. Now, if you want to go from SNA to STL (on AA) you will change planes is Dallas. The normal flying time from SNA to STL (direct) was about 3:45. Westbound flights are always faster. This of course doesn’t include any realted flight delays though.
I call BS on the chartered flight idea. Charter flights are always available. Just got to have the $$$.
God needed a starter. RIP #34
Cool.
Wasn’t trying to be a dick. I used to fly to “the middle” all the time. Flying out of LAX is the way to go though still becuase they have direct flights to STL. SNA is a nice little airport but very limited in terms of direct desitnations. AA for example only offers direct service to Chicago and Dallas (their hub sites) from SNA.
If you have to rely on a connecting flight, you’re most likely screwed.
God needed a starter. RIP #34
I wonder where Evan was sticking that finger...

Good luck Figgy. You definetely deserved going to the ASG.

oh man
I hope he makes it in time to the game!
I could definitely see Figgy pinch hitting/running in the 9th, stealing a base and scoring the winning run =)
Anyone watching ESPN?
Ravech is PISSED that Chone Figgins got selected. He wanted A-Rod to replace Longoria (douche).
Good thing Ravech doesn't get to choose.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Kruk was bemoaning Figgy's nod too
While stroking A-Rods power numbers. In Kruks opinion Figgy over A-Rod equals a loss, there’s that east coast bias we all know and love.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
President Figgins
Figgins was notified early Tuesday morning at his home in Southern California and immediately caught a noon plane from Los Angeles to St. Louis. He was scheduled to land at 5:20 p.m. CT in St. Louis and a police escort was being arranged to help him cut through the traffic. It was not going to be easy because of security measures put in place by President Obama’s participation in the All-Star Game.
“They’re probably going to think he’s the President,” Angels reliever Brian Fuentes joked. “It’s great that he made it. He’s deserving.”
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
It would be hilarious if they mistook Figgins for Obama and had him throw out the first ball.
I am happy to introduce All Star Third Baseman, Chone Figgins.
If he took a noon commercial flight...
According to flight tracker:
AAL812 Arrived Tue 12:00PM PDT Tue 05:03PM CDT American Airlines Inc. McDonnell Douglas MD-82
He arrived, and traffic looks good, so he should be there in the next five to ten minutes if he’s not there already.
Especially with his police escort!
Cool that they’re doing that for him.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Our Desmond gets a police escort after the snubbage

Thank you so very much.
I have learned so much here in the past month.
Has it only been a month?
I’m emailing that to my Mariners fans children, the traitors.
.... as sexy as socks on a rooster.
Every year Ichiro Suzuki
goes to the All Star game and he acts his typical self … stoic Japanese, Zen-style. Calm. Not speaking a word.
And then before the game he goes off on a F-bomb and profanity laced tirade in English against the National League, which shocks all the first-time AL All-Stars and everyone else who doesn’t think Ichiro knows any English.
Ichiro’s pre-game peptalk is basically: “F—- the National League they suck they can suck my … National League are a bunch of ….. F—- Lincecum- (insert name of National League pitcher here). F—- the National League we’re going to beat their asses etc etc !!!.”
Bleep bleep bleep. It’s purportely hilarious and and it is now an AL All-Star tradition. Ichiro is probably doing this now as we speak.
