which ex-angel arm could help us now?
got bored and wondered which current mlb pitchers who where angels in the recent past could help us now? considering we have a big question mark for our #5 starter and a black hole for our 8th inning set-up role (arredondo may solve this), the acquisition of an arm would be helpful. let's take a walk down memory lane and see who could help us out;
starters
john garland (zona)- his #'s aren't great but he could be better than the three headed monster of palmer, o'sullivan and loux. he does have a 2.5 mill. buyout for 2010
bartolo colon (wsox)- he's on the dl right now but i could be crazy but i could see him as an 8th inning guy at this point in his career, give him ball (hopefully he won't eat it) and let it rip for one inning
jeff weaver (dodgers)- don't laugh his #'s aren't half bad and he could spot start or corrupt the bullpen
jarod wahburn (seattle)- the mariners are still in it but if they decide to sell and the price is decent, we'd have to kick the tires plus he's a free agent after the season.
relievers
kevin gregg (cubs)- the cubbies are still contending but i think he'd be a great pick-up if they fell apart especially since he probably not going to be re-signed by chi-town.
bobby jenks (wsox)- due to get a big raise next year and don't see us adding his salary along w/the $ already on the hook for fuentes
brendan donnelly (marlins), joel peralta (kc), troy percival (rays)- either hurt or not that much of an upgrade over the jepsen, bulger, speier dreck.
jc romero (philly) & scott schoenweiss (zona)- bad attitudes and not any better than oliver
krod (mets)- not a chance

i was at his MLB debut
only game I went to that year, and I might have been 10 or 11…

Washburn
When he wore the halo, he couldn’t win in Anaheim. He was a monster on the road, but didn’t pitch well at home.
Since with the Mariners, he pitched well in Anaheim only in 2007—otherwise, the Angel bat have lit him up, meaning it didn’t matter which uni he wore, he gets hit hard in Anaheim.
Washburn pitched a gem in San Diego
I remember it well because I covered that game from the press box. It was the first shutout by an Angels lefty since a certain Chuck Finley.

Meant to put this in the previous reply but forgot ...
Washburn’s also a hell of a nice guy, really great guy in the clubhouse. He’s gotten better with age as well. But I don’t think we’re going to get him off a division rival.

For the right price, the M's would do it
Remember, they’re trading him if they figure to be out of the race in 2009. Washburn’s deal ends in November. It isn’t like he’s going to come back and haunt them in 2010 because of the trade.
There is no downside to Seattle to trade Washburn to the Angels or Rangers if the Mariners decide before 7/31 that they’re eliminated from winning the AL West. The upside is that they could harvest some young talent in the swap.

And I'm sorry but I had to laugh about the Jeff Weaver suggestion
Jeff is half as geeky as Jered and half as talented too.
Don't call me Desmond
That, plus
He’s like Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. Once you think he’s finally figured it out and is going to become an impact pitcher, he regresses horribly. He frustrated managers in NY, Anaheim, and Seattle, after showing flashes of great promise in Detroit, LA and St Louis.

I think we should give Derrick Turnbow a chance
Or is Kendry perhaps the one who needs to sit?
Dick Drago...
…forget gas can…think of railroad cars filled with petroleum…parked near a refinery.

And Drago is a flaming meteor, hurtling inbound through the atmosphere aimed at the railroad cars.
And the meteor is composed of Plutonium-239.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
Those bullpen years..
…almost make this year’s ’pen look good in comparison.
Fred Kahualua, Ken Brett, Sid Monge, Dyar Miller…which one will be the hurtling radioactive meteor of destruction this time?
I’m sure they put smiles on the faces of opposing batters…
Drago? he was awesome!

Sorry.
The free association of words in my mind with Angels bullpen, ‘75-’78 also include “manic-depressive” (emphasis on depressive), schizophrenia, catatonic, and so on.
In fact, when I first heard of the movie “Apocalypse Now”, I thought it might be a mockumentary of those years of the Halos ’pen.
Mickey Callaway
i remember he signed my ball but i lost it
Please get rid of Kendrick and Aybar. And Speier. R.I.P. Nick Adenhart, Marquis Cooper, Steve McNair
Callaway
For a second I wondered who? Then I remembered he actually pitched for the Angels in this decade.
He has pitched/is pitching in Korea apparently.
Or is Kendry perhaps the one who needs to sit?
In 2002, I thought Callaway was going to be the pitcher that John Lackey turned out to be
Angels in 09!
I thought he was gonna be good because he signed my ball
well i was wrong

Darren O'Day Duh!!!!!!!!!
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
o'day is a no brainer put when i put this post...
together in my head i was going to include the caveat of: ex-angels on current mlb rosters who we could have a realistic chance to acquire. there’s no way the rangers would give him up.
Ben Weber
Supply him with some HGH and he’ll be ready to roll! Seriously, having Gregg would be nice.
Gimme a cigarette
for about, X... none of the above

A couple of other guys to consider
Mike Witt, Don Aase, and Ramon Ortiz
We're putting the band back togehter.
Technically, yes he is.
He played in 2 games for the Halos in 1997. Went 0-1 with an ERA of 25.07!
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
Sorry if i beat the Anti-Gubi drum too much...
… and all for the bargain basement price of $1.6 million dollars!! Chili Davis was dealt to get him. Gubi then went on to try a comeback with the Dodgers that did not work out.
