MONDAY NIGHT FUNDRAISER....ADENHART FRIEND

Hey everyone, this is a fund raiser for Jon Wilhite.  Jon Wilhite, a positional player with CSU Fullerton Titans, was in the car  along with Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson that tragic evening.  Please come out and support Jon at the Orange County Flyers game at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton, Monday, July 6th.  Free entry all night.  Jon will be throwing out first pitch.   Thanks.

How is he physically ???

by raven191 on Jul 2, 2009 8:36 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

probably affected for life

as if he’s had a stroke.

by ladybug on Jul 2, 2009 9:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think he is doing pretty darn good....

Considering it has only been just under 3 months from the accident. IMHO, he was in great physical shape before the accident, which helped, and he is relatively young. I would imagine he will continue to progress with therapy; whether he will get all the way back to where he was before the crash is a question mark.
You can read the updates yourself at his website: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jonwilhite You have to sign in and/or create an account, but there is no charge.
I try & read the updates every day, I guess that is why I think Jon is doing so well. Very few people survive internal decapitation, let alone walk & breathe on their own. His family & friends seem like a remarkably strong group of folks, as does Jon.

thanks for the link

I understand the mechanics of the injury (I’m a RN)

absolutely with time I hope he gets as close to his baseline as possible. He doesn’t deserve to have life long residual effects

by ladybug on Jul 3, 2009 9:55 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why...

does he need a fundraiser? Can’t a few Halos throw down some bones? Maybe sell a Benz? Sign autographs for a couple hours for $10 a piece with all proceeds going to his medical bills?

In Remembrance of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson. Heal soon Jon Wilhite.

Wow....

You honestly typed that….read it back to yourself…..and then posted it? I can’t even fathom how monumental his hospital bills are after everything doctors had to do to dave his life. No one knows if Angel players have added moetary support because things like that aren’t published through the media. And quite frankly, they are not obligated too. Even if they did though, what is wrong with this team (managed by a former CSF player) going out of their way to give MORE to him. Seriously dude, that might be one of the most inconsiderate remarks I have ever read.

It wasn't that I took at as merely offensive....

It also came acrossed as acutely ignorant. Maybe I’m hypersenesitive towards the situation, maybe I just needed to snap on someone. The comment just seemed like something that if you think it don’t say it.

honestly, I've kind of thought the same thing

just never verbalized it. I’m not saying the Angels guys need to do sole support but they do make a shit load of money, so yes, I hope they are generous. What better way to honor Nick?

Jon almost died; I would hate to think his rehab, which may be decades, is going to be another slap in the face to him or his family.

Medically, Jon is damn lucky he was so close to UCI. But it comes at a steep price. I haven’t been able to donate much, but when I get a spare $20, I take it to Wells Fargo

Hey now

I’m not saying that a fundraiser isn’t a great thing, or that CSF isn’t great for helping also. What I’m saying is that this tragedy stuck the Angels Family, and if I was in their shoes, I’d do whatever it takes to make sure Jon Wilhite is taken care of medically.

I’m not sure what crawled up your backside, but you’ve went overboard for nothing.

In Remembrance of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson. Heal soon Jon Wilhite.

just chalk it up to a sensitive subject

I’d hate to see this thread turn into ugly. It’s about Jon and it’s about his recovery.

OK, please?

Ok by me

But dude called me out for no reason. I don’t take being called ‘ignorant’ lightly…

My apologies Slasher.

I didn’t think before I typed that response. Like Ladybug said, it is a sensitive subject. I took what you said completely wrong. As irrational as this may seem….I haven’t fully talked about all of what happened with anyone in detail. I feel as fans we are all apart of an extended Angel family, and losing Nick was like losing a close relative.

Please accept my apology for snapping at you, I am sorry.

nice save

let’s keep this up

This season just seems jinxed. If it can go wrong, it does

We're good

Thanks for the apology. That’s very big of you.

I can’t tell you the number of times I hit refresh on my browser trying to see if there were any updates on Jon’s status after learning he was the only survivor of the crash. Even though I live more than 2000 miles from Anaheim, the incident hit me as hard as anyone else, especially since the drunk bastard was drinking at a bar in Covina owned by relatives.

you would think with all the money they make, they could do that

I’m hoping some of them have done that and we haven’t heard about it

by ladybug on Jul 2, 2009 9:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right

If Jon is having a fundraiser, then there is obviously a need for assistance, right?

Most of the Angels have made MILLIONS in their lifetime. Maybe Nick’s closest Angels friends aren’t raking in the dough, but some of the veterans on the team are. Maybe some on the team have helped, if fact I’m sure they have, but they have the capability to do more. And they should.

In Remembrance of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson. Heal soon Jon Wilhite.

I'm sure they have

and I’m just as sure that we won’t hear about it. That’s just the way the Angels organization rolls, don’t you think? They are a class act, just like you, ladybug, and I’m sure that like you they are grateful to have a chance to help as much as they can. I can’t imagine they would ever allow Jon Wilhite to go without needed treatment.

But if they were to make a big show of their kindness, it might appear to the cynical as if the organization were trying to score some sort of PR windfall from Jon’s struggles. Worse, it might suppress donations from the likes of you and me if it were felt that they were not needed.

And I’m sure they are needed. Not because others are being insufficiently generous, but because every donation of any amount is a vote of support for Jon from the community. I know if I were in Jon’s situation, seeing such widespread community support as he is getting would be a huge lift to my spirits. And one can’t put a dollar value on that.

I've read where Kurt Suzuki of the A's started a foundation to help the next day.

He gathered memorabilia and autographed stuff from the Oakland club for an auction. I’m surprised the Angels haven’t done anything like that (they might have, but not published it…if that’s the case I apologize). As written above, I would think it’d be a great way to honor Adenhart.

Well, I'm a Suzuki fan now.

Lets put Nap at first and trade for him.
