TUESDAY ANGELS ROUNDUP: Rain Out In KC, Jose Arredondo Making Progress
Rained out game against Kansas City to be part of Tuesday doubleheader - Los Angeles Times
The Angels and Kansas City Royals wasted no time rescheduling Monday night's rainout in Kauffman Stadium; the game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today, a scheduling decision that pleased Manager Mike Scioscia.

While General Manager Tony Reagins scours the trade market for a solution to the Angels’ setup problems, Jose Arredondo(notes) could be making his case as a potential answer.
Why not try to extend Abreu now? - Angels Unplugged - Los Angeles Times
Why not do the smart thing immediately, before other teams can bid when his contract runs out, and offer him a nice two-year deal worth, say, $14 million?

With last night's rain out in Kansas City, the Angels news is rather scarse. If you find something interesting that I've missed, post the link below in the comments section.

Bad Vlad
It’s pretty obvious that this should be Vlad’s last year as an Angel. Abreu is still able to play the outfield and is a durable, steady presence in the lineup. His power has picked up some and he’s smart enough to delay some of the effects of the aging hitter. I think he’s worth it for a couple more years to help maintain a veteran presence in the lineup.
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart - Always an Angel
2 Years at $14M seems like a steal.
Also I don’t think he’d take kindly to the offer. Wasn’t his goal to go ahead and accept a ridiculously low amount of money ($5M) from the Angels and then win MVP and sign for the fortune he thinks he’s worth? While certainly not an MVP year, I have to think he’s proving he’s worth more than $5M or even $7M a year.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.

I'd happily sign Abreu for another 2-years...
I’d also thank Vladdy for his time, pat him on the back and wish him luck with his next team. Even if he gets healthy he showed that he seemed to be in decline last year and nothing he has done this year has contradicted that. Add in the fact that he can’t stay healthy and you have a perfect storm of excuses to let such a great Angel walk away.
RIP Nick...

Have a day off today, so I'm driving down to see the doubleheader.
First time I’ve gotten to see the team in person this year.

Plugging the upside since 2006.
Never give up, never surrender!
Reading betwen the lines, this OCR article about Vlad's future with the Angels
according to Tony Reagins is very revealing. Reagins says to Vlad basically get healthy and start producing or else.

I am happy to introduce All Star Third Baseman, Chone Figgins.
I just have this sneaking feeling
that Vlad is gonna come back and have an August & September to remember. Nothing to point to, just a gut feeling.
Happy Thoughts

I'd LOVE a Vladdie October to remember!
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
2 Years for 14 mil
would be what hes worth with the economy as it is? Vlad said he wanted to stay here and I’m sure would take a pay cut to do so. But the Angels seem to forget that he carried them every year he was here, now its the Angels turn to carry the hurt Impaler…
They want power, We want respect...
Much as I love Vladdy and would love to believe otherwise, this is a business
and Vladdy isn’t exactly broke. He’s got this second half of the season to prove he’s got some gas left in the tank, but I’m not optimistic about it. I hate to say it but I think he should consider retiring after this season. Note, I said consider.
.... as sexy as socks on a rooster.
extend Abreu?
HELL to the YES. as the kids say/

“Norbit” popularized that term in my small region of the world.
I love this team.

Not a chance
Why extend him? Offer him arbitration after the season and then work on a 2 year price with arbitration on the table. If you don’t like the market price for a 2 year contract of a player his age, let the arbiter decide. Aribitration will drive the FA price down (compensatory pick) and even if you lose the aribitration the price will not be outrageous the year after an off-season of depressed wages. Last year players were burned for not taking arbitration. This year will be different. In reality, do the same for Figgins, Vlad, and Lackey. Lackey is the only risk for a really high priced 1 year contract and he’s probably worth it. He won’t want a one year deal and you may get the first round pick of a team with a worse record (Texas?).
