Arte Moreno Confirms Ongoing Roy Halladay / Cliff Lee Pursuit
Angels owner Arte Moreno said today that the club remains interested in acquiring an ace starter and has not heard anything that would preclude the pursuit of the likes of Toronto's Roy Halladay and Cleveland's Cliff Lee.

Go to manage fanpost, you can edit either fanposts or fanshots.
Click on the paper and pencil symbol on the right of the title of the fanshot.
I am happy to introduce All Star Third Baseman, Chone Figgins.

We won't get either...
Whenever Arte brings up things like this in the media, we lose out. I recall a “big bat promise” that went unfulfilled one offseason. Just don’t get our hopes up, Arte.
(I still love you as our team’s owner, though)
I love this team.

Further, this kind of comment puts pressure on the GM to get a deal done. Any deal. You lose leverage and take away the element of surprise — the trademarks of the NINJA!
I love this team.

oh come on man!
GMJ was that big bat! What a player he’s been for us!
Seriously though, Wood should just pack his bags and book a flight now. With the way that Aybar’s been playing there’s no way he’s going anywhere. And Izzy wouldn’t be enough, so I see Wood going bye bye
RIP Nick. We will miss you!

I agree regarding Wood
But realistically, if the Angels are down on him – what makes us think we can get maximum value for him from other teams? On the depth chart he’s behind Figgins, Aybar and Izzy. Hell, Q is getting more at bats than Wood!
We’d probably be selling low right now; no way do I think he could be the centerpiece of a deal for Lee or Halladay.

When the owner is talking about trades
There’s no blockbuster deals happening.

Since he is involved I do not like our chances.
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.

Arte has been a hell of a lot better in business negotiations over his life than I have.
Therefore, in Arte I must, gladly, trust.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.

But owning a baseball team usually isn't a money-making proposition,
not until you sell the team. I think the Angels might not fit that mold but I’m not sure.

"We don't have any financial constraints"
That’s the headline of that interview.
by mattwelch on Jul 23, 2009 7:01 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Exactly!
This is an incredibly bold statement. Baseball is a numbers-heavy sport but the numbers which aren’t disclosed are the financial condition of each team. I would love to review the audited balance sheets, statement of cash flows, income statements, and the Notes to financial statements for various teams. Of course none of the teams are obligated to release financial information as they are private entities, but it would be rather fascinating if they did.
