How Many Wins This Season?

The Angels played their 95th game of the year tonight. They beat the Twins 6-3 to raise their record after 95 games to 57-38.

As most HHer's know, last season was the most successful regular season in franchise history, winning 100 games for the first time ever. Any guesses on their record after 95 games last season?

Time's up for the guessers. In 2008, the Angels played their 95th game on July 17th. Their record? 57-38...EXACTLY the same as their record this year! Surprised?

im still ashamed

to be the only team in the past 5 years to be the first to 60 and not make the world series

plus the fact the year we won the world series we were the wild card

so to hell with putting up big numbers…we just need 1 more than the mariners and rangers

I don't want to speculate

Record after 95 games.

1985: 56-39
1989: 57-38
1995: 59-36

Well sure if you want to be a pessimist.

You COULD do this instead-

2002: 56-39
2004: 50-45
2005: 56-39
2007: 56-39
2008: 57-38

Or you could do both for a balanced perspective

But thanks both!

I know where you're coming from, brother

I’m a Fan Since Before 1981. Although times have certainly changed, the closet in the basement is still there. And we hope the closet remains shut. But we know what’s in there: Heartbreak, tragedies, epic failures.

That being said, I remain cautiously optimistic. I thought we were a 95 win team before the season. I still feel that way.

Why had we completed 95 games seven days earlier than this year?

I know we are missing two games because of a rain-out in NY and the game against Oakland the day Nick Adenhart died, but did the season start a couple of days later this year? Or have we had more days off than last year?

THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!

Yep.

Season started March 31 in 2008, but April 6 in 2009.

We can just go to

Baseball Prospectus to see that type of prediction…oh wait, are they even predicting 80 wins for us at this point? Good job, Pythagoras. :-D

I am a little surprised

That we have the same record now that we had a year ago.

How bout we go for 105 wins this year?

by TheAntiSox on Jul 25, 2009 1:51 AM PDT reply actions

I wasreally surprised

to find we had the same record after 95 games as last year.

2 factors threw off my perception;

1) The really awful first month this year.
2) The way the team just seemed to cruise last year. There were no real challenges from our divisional rivals. This year, Texas and Seattle are playing much better than last

With the same record last year, Oakland was 6 games back and fading.

Yeah, I think it's attributable to this insane July they're having, and the NL West

Also

This year we suck against the AL west. We didn’t last year.

by TheAntiSox on Jul 25, 2009 12:08 PM PDT up reply actions

What makes this insane July so much more nutty (schizophrenic?)

is how we keep winning in July considering;
1) The middle of the offense missing for a good number of these games (Torii, Vlad, and Rivera).
2) Starting pitchers that are struggling (Saunders), question marks (Santana, Palmer), slightly regressing (Weaver) or only improving in the last couple of games (Lackey).
3) An inconsistent bullpen (with the exception of Fuentes and maybe Oliver).

Remarkable…truly remarkable.

by sothball on Jul 25, 2009 12:20 PM PDT up reply actions

we had virtually NO streaks one way or the other

and there wasn’t anyone in the division close. That’s why it seems so different.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

Enough to win the WS

That’s all I would like.

As linkbruin said.

What I want is enough wins to get into the playoffs (could be 88 for all I care) and then 11 playoff victories.
