I think this topic has been done to death.
There’s what.. 8 Halladay discussion threads?
Interesting that with Aybar playing the best ball of his life, he’s the only one with no votes.
Angels fan since '67
P.S. I realize this isn't a Halladay thread per-se
But the discussion of who to trade and who’s untouchable is on all of them.
Angels fan since '67
It's Hobson's choice here...
…seeing any of their names in a rumour makes me feel slightly twitchy. Aybar is the most easily replaced, because we have Mice-Tits for this season and Wood for the future. I still wouldn’t like it – he’s showing he can play, if he shows us he can maintain his concentration for the rest of the season then we have an authentic major league short-stop.
The other 3 can’t be immediately replaced and trading Weaver would be holing the 2009 ship beneath the water-line.
Aybar at a push, the other 3 not so much.

"...holing the 2009 ship beneath the water-line"
Best Line Of The Month!
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
If it were possible to choose more than one, I'd add Aybar to my list.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Aww, there's the Aybar vote.
Thanks whoeveryouare!

The big question on the Sports Lodge show this morning was...
based on this info from a Foxsports.com.. report
According to a FOXSports.com report: Blue Jays General Manager J.P. Ricciardi has asked for a four-player package including starting pitcher Joe Saunders, top infield prospect Brandon Wood, shortstop Erick Aybar and a minor leaguer from a group that includes outfielder Peter Bourjos and pitchers Trevor Reckling and Sean O’Sullivan.
It seemed like callers were 50/50 on doing this deal. I really like Saundo, but he’s just not getting it done this year. Perhaps we should have a vote on this…
God needed a starter. RIP #34
Do we take on Well's contract?
Because that would be icing on the F-you cake.

Forget names and compare:
In exchange for:
1 1/2 seasons of MLB proven #1 ace, future HOF, inning-eating, short playoff series kingpin, pitcher.
(Regular season added value reasonably assured. Playoff performance not assured. Future value beyond contract highly in doubt.)
We are asked for:
Two proven back of the rotation MLB starters.
One proven MLB starting shortstop.
One #1 offensive power prospect, MLB ready.
One #1 front of the rotation pitching prospect, 2 – 3 years away.
How does our offer stack up against the other 4 teams of interest? I gotta feeling that the demand on this franchise might be inappropriately high. And I am not one to put a lot of stock in the future of prospects.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
I'm glad somebody put this in perspective
It’s like the more people repeat the word “Halladay” the more frenetic this whole thing gets and the more outlandish the trade proposals get.
Call me crazy, but I’m so over Halladay

NOT AT THAT COST!!!!

Let's look around.
Halos price:
One proven back of the rotation MLB starter.
One more proven back of the rotation MLB starter.
One proven MLB starting shortstop.
One #1 offensive power prospect, MLB ready.
One #1 front of the rotation pitching prospect, 2 – 3 years away.
Red Sox price:
One proven back of the rotation MLB starter.
One 1st round front of the rotation pitching prospect, 2 – 3 years away
One top prospect to be named later.
Phillies price:
One proven back of the rotation MLB starter.
One 1st round front of the rotation pitching prospect, 1 year away.
One #1 offensive power prospect, 2 – 3 years away.
Yankee’s price:
One proven MLB pitcher, currently bullpen, future closer or back of the rotation starter.
One #1 offensive power prospect, 1 year away.
One more #1 offensive power prospect, 2 – 3 years away.
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
Year not talent
Your analysis does not take talent into account only the amount of time it will take to be MLB ready
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.
Aybar is doing great.
However, I’m projecting how I will feel about him come October.
Pure hate.
Don’t trade the Weave.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
The only real competition here is between Weaver and Napoli, IMO

How about...
Saunders, Rivera, S-Rod, and O’Sullivan for Halliday and Wells contract?
They get a better and younger outfielder locked up for two more years at a bargain and we spend a ton of money on two guys to win a title now without giving up too much of the future.
Anyone who takes on Wells' contract...
…should get Halliday thrown in for free as an act of mercy
I see red people
The Wells contract is huge
As per FanGraphs, this is what Wells will be owed (in millions):
2010: $12.5
2011: $23
2012: $21
2013: $21
2014: $21
Total obligation: $98.5 million.
This year he’s hitting .258/.305/.409, and his fielding has deteriorated badly the past two seasons (as per UZR). Unless he can turn things around, the Jays are stuck with an albatross of a contract.

Who do we give up to pick up Kazmir?
#Rays have backed off Roy Hallaay for now (#BlueJays asking too much) but still in on #Indians V.Martinez, Lee and sending Kazmir to #Angels
(source)
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
not much
The Rays are trying to free up payroll and im thinking he can be had at a decent price, of course i don’t have any knowledge of their thinking, just going by what I perceive to be his current value and their willingness to go after Cleveland’s players.
NA 34
How about looking at other available pitchers?
Aaron Harang might be available because the Reds are apparently in sell mode now.
Jarrod Washburn is being dangled by Seattle, although i doubt they would trade within the division.
The Rays are trying to unload Kazmir, although he is not having a good season at all.
NA 34
kazmir is having a bad year
but getting him is intriguing, because butcher has worked with him in the past and he may be able to figure out whats up with him and turn his season around..

Angels want an ace not a #4 or #5 SP...

A cheap #4 or #5 would certainly do the opposite of hurt this team though ...
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Mike has said that if they are making a trade it will be an "impact trade."
to it means an ace or a damn good BP arm.

I say go for it if Tampa is that desperate to move him
The Angels would be dealing from a favorable position because they are so eager to move his salary. I don’t see a downside to this unless they are asking for top quality prospects. Kaz has the potential to be a # 1 or 2 guy in the rotation.
NA 34
Yeah.
No impact this year, but could soften the loss of a Lackey next year. Maybe.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Could still be better than Saunders and Santana
I don’t see this team pulling away from the division if those two continue to suck ass the rest of the way through. Tonight’s start by Saunders could expedite a possible trade because I don’t think they can keep throwing him out there, the way he has been pitching.
NA 34
Palmer, Weaver, Lackey and all others have benefitted greatly...
under his tutelage, he also had lots of success in the minors.

Tommy John
One thing Butcher isn’t, though, is an orthopaedic surgeon (good thing, with that name). And I suspect that Kazmir’s diminished velocity and reluctance to throw his slider is something that can Butcher can’t fix.

rec for play on words
Who goofed? I've got to know.
The alledged Hallady demands are preposterous!
Why do we keep on revisiting this subject? Get a decent BP arm possibly for GMJ with the Reds and let’s take care of business and win this thing already mofos!

Napoli
I would say he’s the most untradable, but it appears that with fierce competition from Mendoza Mathis, the Angels will never get as much out of Nap as other teams would.
Starting Pitching
Trade the short
Trade the tall
Trade the big
Trade the small
Trade ’em, trade ’em all
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
