Cliff Lee to the Phillies (VERY close)
According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the Phillies are moving toward a deal for Indians left-hander Cliff Lee. A handful of Phillies prospects were abruptly scratched from Triple-A Lehigh Valley's lineup Wednesday morning. If the rumors are true, it appears Lee is going to cost Philadelphia much less than what the Blue Jays were asking for Roy Halladay. "Phillies officials have continued to tell other clubs they believe they can make a deal for Lee without giving up either their top pitching prospect, Kyle Drabek," Stark writes, "or their top position-player prospect, outfielder Dominic Brown." Jul. 29 - 11:39 am et i guess now we are stuck getting Halladay : )

Marson and Donald scheduled days off
The only other one scratched is Carrasco..which is slightly interesting..but the other 2 is normal for them today..just coincidence
More info
The deal has not been completed, but the Philadelphia Phillies appear on the verge of acquiring left-hander Cliff Lee from the Cleveland Indians, according to multiple sources Wednesday morning.
In return, the Indians would receive right-handed pitching prospects Carlos Carrasco and Jason Knapp and at least two players from a group that includes catcher Lou Marson, shortstop Jason Donald and outfielder Michael Taylor, according to sources. Carrasco was scratched from his start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

I’m not sure if a deal like this means Halladay is more likely to go to the Red Sox. I really hope not.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
No way Halladay is going to AL East.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

Well the value for Halladay falls with the Phillies out of the running.
So better chance for one of the other teams interested to make a deal, unless JP is really as insane as he is acting.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
just heard on a philly radio station
the deal is done. cliff lee will be a philly. dont know the details, but people in the organization have confirmed the deal is done.
12:42pm: Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that the sides have agreed to a deal that sends Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco to Philly for Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Lou Marson. The teams still have to examine medical records for the deal to go through.

Good for the Phils and the Indians
Sounds potentially like a good deal for both teams.
And forget the Halladay nonsense! JP can suck it,
I'm glad Ben Francisco will be out of the lineup. :-)

Hmmm we couldn't have made a deal like that????
Seems strange. Both the Angels and Dodgers could have made similar or better offers… ugh.

I'm starting to believe
The only big bats we will acquire are Torii Hunter and Vlad Guerrero, the only Bullpen arm we will acquire will be Jose Arrendondo, and the only starter we add is Sean O’Sullivan.
Our best trading partners are the Salt Lake Bees and the DL.
RIP Nick Adenhart 4/9/09
Haha, nice.
Thankfully we have a guy who just pitched a no-hitter on the Bees, and all it would take is a guy like Wililts to get him! I hear that Torii Hunter guy is a game changer, too.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Halladay speculation.
Roy Halladay wants to play for a perennial contender. So, would he approve a trade to the Rangers, who last made the postseason in 1999?
Maybe.
Halladay has not ruled out waiving his no-trade clause for the Rangers, according to a source with knowledge of his thinking.
However, he is not as certain to approve a deal to Texas as he is to the Yankees, Red Sox or either of the Los Angeles teams.
The Rangers are 2½ games behind the Angels in the AL West and 1½ games behind the Red Sox for the wild card.
They have the prospects to land Halladay, but many in baseball doubt their ability to take on his remaining salary in 2009 and ’10.

I just don't get it
Why could the Angels have made a deal like this for Lee?
1. The prospects the Indians are receiving are a lot better than anything the Angels have in their minor league system?
2. The prospects the Indians are receiving are better than some of the major league talent on the Angels?
3. Mark Shapiro is an idiot?
4. The Angels had no interest in Lee?
What am I missing?
I'm thinking the Angels might have been talking to Cleveland
To make Toronto more likely to deal. If we could land another pitcher, does that make it easier to re-sign Lackey in the off season, or harder?
RIP Nick Adenhart 4/9/09
I think landing a relief pitcher gives us a better chance.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
+1
we wouldn’t need to deal so many players for a relief pitcher
Please get rid of Speier. "Yes, I suck."- Jose Guillen.
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart, Marquis Cooper, Steve McNair, and Frank Grimes, or Grimey, as he liked to be called

Say Hello to our long lost friend.....
Washburn? But then again, why would Seattle trade one of their best starters when they just made a trade for other players that they consider an improvement for their team???
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

Three words:
Free Agency, Boras.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
J.P. Ricciardi said he now not only expects Halladay to be a Blue Jay for the rest of this season, but for the rest of his contract, which runs through next year.
…
“It doesn’t hurt us,” Ricciardi said. “We said the whole way that we would have to be wowed (by a proposal) and we haven’t been wowed. I don’t think this is going to get done (before Friday’s deadline). I have told everyone we would have to be moved, and no one has moved us with an offer. And that is fine. This is not something we have to do.”

Oh well, Halladay in Toronto all of next year only means the Red Sox and Yankees have a harder time in the battle for the Wild Card, right?
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
question is
are they still looking for another arm?
who else is out there to get that could be had for a deal kind of like this one?
Kazmir.

Not close anymore
done deal and we won’t be seeing Ben Francisco robbing us of hits today.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
halladay will be an angel
My prediction, as for Francicisco as I said before great kid, coached him and coached against him when he was a youth.
