What players do you root for?

I was reading AngelKeith's fan post about what other teams do you root for besides the Angels, and it got me wondering, do people still root for teams the way that they used to, or do people root more for specific playes. Before the advent of free agency, you knew players were going to be on the same team for their career unless they were traded. You knew Mickey Mantle was going to be a Yankee for his entire career, and Stan Musial was going to be a Cardinal.

Obviously, we all come here because we root for the Angels. Since the players don't often stay with the same team for their entire career anymore - with a few exceptions, do you find yourself rooting for certain playes more then you do for any one team. Share your thoughts on any players that you root for seperate from any team you root for.

It's all about the Angels, but...

… I’m just gay for Ichiro (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). He’s gotta be the funniest/weirdest guy to play in the modern era, and he’s just terrific. I’m also a huge fan of El Duque.

And with the exceptions of Schoeneweis & Jose Guillen & Mo Vaughn, I’m positively inclined toward just about everyone who wore the Angels ML uniform this decade.

I certainly root for guys like Erstad, Anderson, Kennedy once they've left...

I also root for guys like Kurt Suzuki and Chad Cordero who were stars of the Titans while I was there.

But all bets are off while they play the Angels.

Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.

present, and past. Players from Hawaii (any connection that can be made. that’s the way it works here), and players from Japan. Take out the bad seeds from the league, then I’ll cheer for the rest. All of the deserve to be cheered, they just have to earn the respect of the game to get some.

Didn't get to finish my thought...

Had to play chauffeur for a bit. I am a big fan of Ryne Sandberg, Nomar Garciaparra (Whittier represents!), and J.T. Snow. My three favorite players, easily. HATED seeing Snow as a Giant, esp in the 2002 WS. Killed me, but I pulled for the Halos first, of course.

I have also always liked Chase Utley,Chipper Jones,Jason Bay,Justin Morneau
Larry Walker was a great Canadian so I always liked him,and back then Andres Galaragga and Moises Alou were great..
Of course none compare to Vlad Guerrero.

I root for the Angels. Whoever they are.

And I have a passing interest in former players. At least until they retire. Then they are an Angel again.

It’s like when you have a terminally ill relative and there last years are horrible and it’s not anything you want to really remember. But after they die, all you remember is the good times.

Weird analogy I guess….

i’ve got a thing for Evan Longoria, too. can’t figure that one out – just like the guy.
i really like Ryan Braun as well, but i think it’s just because he looks eerily similar to my old drumline instructor. hmmm…

Being that I haven’t really seen too many ballgames since 1996, I remain stuck in the past. He was my favorite non-Angel, but of course all Angels were and are my real favorites… Just wish he woulda been an Angel.
