Why are our minor leaguers stuck?

I'm just curious if anyone knows specifically why the Angels minor league prospects seem to be stuck and in limbo at Triple A?

This is all observation of course, but I am curious as to why Rodriguez and Wood are sitting wasting away in Triple A when they could be ahead of Aybar or Izturius? Is it that Aybar or Izturius are trade bait? Sosh hates Minor League players? Does the front office believe power bats are evil?

I'm honestly curious as to why this continues to be an issue and why, when our power threats are out, Napoli is not DHing... Is there any method to this madness that I continue to see?

HERE IS WHY:

Maybe, just maybe… they are just NOT THAT GOOD.

That is all I got…

I can understand

The sarcasm and crass in the text, but when have those two ever really had a shot?

by Obscurity on Jul 9, 2009 4:16 PM PDT reply actions

They are not in limbo. They are right where the organization wants them to be.

If Wood and SRod had tore it up at the end of last season, and again through ST, they might – might! – have knocked Izzy and possibly Aybar to the backburner.

They have not demonstrated (albeit in abbreviated appearances) that they are demonstrably superior defenders. And whatever it is that they are doing in the Minors, they have not overwhelmed Aybar/Figgy/Izzy with their bats on the ML club, either. Further, the Halos offense as it is ranks among the top in all of baseball. This offense is not begging for the potential of AAA players.

Meanwhile, the franchise enjoy players in reserve at AAA should injuries on the MLB club force their hand. Those two are on the 40-man, but staying at AAA leaves the Big League club with slots for more arms, where theyneed all the help they can get.

And this way the Halos maintain Big League every-day players for teams to scout and value should they be needed to package for top-shelf pitching.

The players in front of Wood/SRod on the Active Roster are holding their own defensively, and are contributing cogs to a working offense.

Finally, the Halos still have time on their side. There are no rules or contracts anywhere that are forcing their hands this season, unlike next year when Figgy earns FA status and Wood can no longer be optioned back down.

Really? Ooops. I'm not qualified for that.

The motivation here was just that Obscurity seemed to be asking a sincere question, and had not been active enough over the past 4 months to follow all the blahter we have hashed out on this subject. So, before he/she got blasted, I merely did a recap. Think of it as an intervention.

That makes a lot of sense.

My whole post was out of pure curiosity not to say “GOD DAMN ORGANIZATION BLAH BLAH”, not complaining but just curiosity. I should be complaining about the limited number of at bats Napoli has :D

What’s up with 5 straight fanposts authored by people who haven’t even taken the time to put up a doggone avatar?

I love this team.

Except for hk47, mostly younglings. Signs of growing popularity. To be encouraged.

It would be tough to come up with a good avatar for Obscurity as well

It would have to be well … nearly invisible … Cmon WiHaloFan, Photoshop an “obscure” avatar for Obscurity!

I re-read all the posts in this string twice and have come to the realization

that I’m having an acid flashback from the 70’s. Everything seemed to make sense until the ZL comment, then it all faded into psychedelic paisley.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

by Moondoggy on Jul 9, 2009 5:40 PM PDT reply actions

My oldest brother actually suffered from that while he was still alive.

His bad trip back in the 60’s – the one that landed him in jail – was definitely not fun. But his flashbacks were pretty funny!

Your impartial judge weighing in.

This post did exhibit the usual level of rational/irrational thought in the earlier comments.

After the “ZL comment”, it does appear the balance between rational/irrational was…uh…jolted by unknown cosmic forces over to the more irrational side. This trip (ha!) over to the irrational side manifests 5 distinct possibilities;
1) No flashback. This was a rational reaction to irrational comments. (You’re OK).
2) The pattern of the irrational comments induced a temporary psychotic reaction UNRELATED to earlier drug use. (You’re sort of OK. You should be careful of future HH intake. It may be bad for your metal health).
3) The pattern of irrational comments induced a temporary psychotic reaction RELATED to earlier drug use. (You’re sort of OK a little less . You should avoid HH as your current drug of choice!).
4) Reading HH while smoking crack induces psychotic flashbacks. (But then, that occurs when not reading HH. Put down the crack pipe and get some therapy!)
5) Some combination of the above. (You’re screwed!)

Oh yeah man, there could be 6-7 more options…but what do I know? Do you hear the lyrics to “Crimson and Clover”? I am hearing it…over and over…

The reason Wood and Rodriquez are in the minors?

The Angels love depth. They love having MLB-ready players ready to step in if needed. Depth wins championships.

BTW, Zu Long lives in Iowa…did anyone check the cornfield?

by WiHaloFan on Jul 10, 2009 8:56 AM PDT reply actions

The simple answer to this question...

…is that there is no simple answer. GMJ gets paid too much. Robb Quinlan is terrible…and Brandon Wood is still in AAA.

I think a lot of us Angels fans ask these questions.
