Minor League Report: COBY SMITH Credit where credit is due
While I'm admittedly a huge Sean Rodriguez and Brandon Wood fan, every once in a while you have to acknowledge insane performances from unlikely candidates.
And that is exactly what happened today when 29 year old AA Arkansas Traveler CF Coby Smith hit two home runs. In one inning.
Coby Smith 2HR in 1st Inning of tonight's game
While the Angels were busy putting together another come from behind victory, our minor league teams were busy saying "Hey, don't forget about us. With all the talk of how barren the Angel's farm system is now due to promotions, we still have what it takes."
Anyway, not groundbreaking news, just thought I'd give a shout out where it was deserved!

Nice accomplishment
29 in AA … that is like 39 and waiting in line at the club

Wasn't proclaiming he was the next big prospect
Just acknowledging that 2HR in one inning is so rare that he deserves a moment of respect in what clearly is a lost cause of a career.
Let him have his day in the sun!

I'm with you
I just want to clarify this so that we don’t get posts by Sunday morning demanding he be in the starting lineup or lamenting why he wasn’t added to the Hslladay package (and people will argue then that he is too valuable to have been traded away for a once-ever-five-games-pitcher, etc.).
But BRAVO Coby Smith!

Gotcha.
Thought I had that part covered with the title and inclusion that he’s 29, but never can be too careful.
Also just trying to express a general frustration that the Angel’s farm system is so severely underranked.
How many scouts wouldve predicted Morales projecting to hit .290 with 30 HR and 100 RBI? And if they would have, then how did he not make top prospect lists the past few years?
It seems that the current cream of our crop in Walden, Reckling, Bell, Bourjous, Conger (among plenty of others) is getting shortchanged.
Not that that should be surprising, I suppose.

Really?
Seems alot of those guys get plenty of ink. Walden has been hurt most of the year, this is the first year Bell has shown us much of anything and the same can be said by Conger (from a health standpoint, anyway). Besides, I like that they float under the radar. How many times did we hear that Howie was a future batting champ, only to have everyone hate on him when that didn’t happen right away? As long as the team knows what they have who cares what the national media thinks?

Don't look now,
but Howie is back to his old self.
Check out his July and After All Star Game numbers.
Howie ain’t going anywhere.

Sounds like a guy that we all can root for.
He should enjoy his day in the sun. Smith for Halladay, straight up. ;)
In Remembrance of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson. Heal soon Jon Wilhite.
I want Andrew Thomas Gallo to be a pinata, and the Angels supply the bats...

If they ask for Matt Palmer, too, I’d nix that deal.
I love this team.
