Mighty Maicer Izturis Homer Caps 11-6 Angels Romp over Twins

Final Score in Minnesota: Angels 11, Twins 6

When Maicer Izturis hits a three run jack late in a close game on the road you know that, as a team, you are living right. 6WG: We Will Win With What We Got!

Star-divide

When Gary Matthews goes 3 for 5 with 3 RBI... and it is not 2006... You know that, as a team, you are living right.

The Angels took to the hard Minneosta turf with an intensity that stomped the home team twins into the plasti-grass for the 2nd game in a row. After Ervin Santana gave up 5 runs in 5 innings last night, Joe Saunders gave up 4 in 6, Matt Palmer dropped a deuce in 1 and 2-thirds innings; in the recent Angels seasons past that would have been the death knell for the team, but the offense of pressuring basehits (in the game, there were 12 Angels singles... ha ha sounds like a pick-up bar on a Friday night) mixed in with the occasional double blasted thru again.

Oddly, this was the rare Angel victory that was not a come-from-behind variety, beneftting from a 2nd inning 2-Ribby Gary Matthews double. With the score 6-4 in the 6th, Little Maicer Izturis hit a 3-Run Homer off of reliever R.A. Dickey and the cement started drying fast on the foundation of another Angels victory.

The Angels now lead the American League west by 4 games over the Texas Rangers.

After the 3rd

When he settled down, he started to look like the Hokie Joe of old. I’m hopeful about his next start.

Saunders was solid

I saw his outing on the abbreviated version of the game just now and was actually surprised to see him hitting most of his spots. I guess moving all the way to the 3B side of the rubber may have helped him out a bit. He only got hit hard when he was leaving the ball up from where Napoli was usually set up, but he was still able to induce the ground ball more often than not. Besides, it’s not easy pitching to this Twins lineup anyway-lol. Joe did his job and as a result was able to keep from having to use the main guys in the pen (Bulger, Jepsen, Oliver, Fuentes).

he was good BUT...

i dont think he had a 1-2-3 inning…and he K’s were pretty low but otherwise…good game.

Not only that

But the #1 Offense as well.

I bet nobody saw that coming before the season started.

Bad news is that our pitching is 24 out of 30.

how has it been in the last 2 months though?

I bet its at least middle of the pack if we look at pitching ERA’s since June-ish…

...and believe it or not...

…we are now within a game of the best record in baseball. Same number of losses as the Dodgers (40), but they have 2 more victories.

This is an amazing team. Like norcaliangelsfan says above, enjoy the ride…

I bet the rest of the AL already can right now...

No wonder opposing clubs wanted to fleece the hell out of them towards the trade deadline. They know what time it is, lol. RALLY TIME!!!!

Best trade ever

Getting Rivera and Izturis for Jose “I Suck” Guillen. Brilliant!

In Remembrance of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson. Heal soon Jon Wilhite.

I want Andrew Thomas Gallo to be a pinata, and the Angels supply the bats...

Bill Stoneman

There is a great irony in that the Angels retired number 26 for Gene Autry (as the 26th man on the roster) and that when Stoneman pitched for the Angels in 1974, he WORE THAT JERSEY number

by Rev Halofan on Aug 1, 2009 10:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Rev, Stoneman is still with us........

…..and it’s a good thing. You see how he taught Reagins………that’s not a mistake.

A couple of months ago I heard an interview with Moreno. He referenced Stoneman.

I like to see more Sean Rodriguez in the OF please, Scioscia!

Look at it this way, at least you know you’ll have a guy in the lineup who (unlike Willits, lol) can actually TURN on a mid-90s fastball as well as run the basepaths with good speed. Plus, it gets another potential 20+ HR bat in there while guys like Torii and Juan in particular recover enough from their injuries to return to their rightful postions.

by rosinbag42 on Aug 2, 2009 1:15 AM PDT reply actions

S-Rod, I like him but...

he has NO plate discipline.

by BryanHarvey'sMoustache on Aug 2, 2009 1:28 AM PDT up reply actions

as opposed to Willits

take strike one, take strike two, foul, take ball one, foul, groundout? That kinda plate discipline?

by Rev Halofan on Aug 2, 2009 1:33 AM PDT up reply actions

LOL

Hey, I’ll take Sean over Reggie anyday. But Sean goes up their hacking and always tries to pull the ball. Hes like that in the minors too…I’ve seen it.

Sit him down to Abreu and maybe he’ll improve…put some balls in right field and take a walk every now and then.

Do it for Nick '09

by BryanHarvey'sMoustache on Aug 2, 2009 1:36 AM PDT up reply actions

All the better for Sean to stay up with the parent club, don't you think?

I mean it’s not like there’s a Bobby Abreu down on that Salt Lake roster that can give him a few pointers now, is there??? lol
>;-)

by rosinbag42 on Aug 2, 2009 1:43 AM PDT up reply actions

in that scenario at least Willits sees five pitches

You’re so hard on him, Rev…

mighty maicer at it again...

this offense is incredible… if the rotation gets to be even average the rest of the season then the rest of the AL is in trouble. it was good to see Srod in the OF today good glimpse of what he can provide in the future whethter he’s starting or becomes the supersub filling in at all spots.

SRod in the outfield...

…he didn’t make errors, and did well tracking a couple of hard hit liners by Mauer.

Anyone know about his arm velocity/accuracy as an OF?

by sothball on Aug 2, 2009 8:42 AM PDT up reply actions

well, he was a SS originally

so i’m guessing he has a good arm..
