Arroyo And Harang Clear Waivers
Now I'm not entirely sold on Bronson Arroyo, but Aaron Harang is available. I'm not sure what the Reds are looking for, but we were ready to deal S-Rod and Arrendondo with O'Sullivan for Heath Bell. Maybe a deal of S-Rod and Shane Loux for Harang.
What do you think?

Harang
is intriguing, at the right price. Arroyo, on the other hand, can’t even get batters out at AAA (i.e., the NL). Pass.
I dont really see how Harang is any better than what we got...
He leads the league in hits given up at 174 in 148 innings. Couple that with the 22 bombs hes given up and the 4.8 ERA and Im thinking might as well just stick with Palmer and SOS….

he does have two CG's though, I might add...
eating innings might be a good thing…the final key to another ring though, he is not.

he also only walks a little over 2 guys per 9 IP
I’d be interested depending on the price.
Harang strikes out 8 per 9, and pitches in a bandbox w/ questionable D behind
Under contract for $11 mil this year, $12.5 mil next year, and $12.75 mil for 2011, with $2 mil buyout. A tad on the pricey side, but he eats innings (215 per the past four seasons), is only 31, and he allows us to maybe let some of our young pitchers stay at AAA for more than a week. I’d happily take that contract, and would be interested to know what Cincy needs, besides payroll relief (which we can offer).

I think payroll relief is all they should really get...
giving them the likes of S-Rod or any other prospect near that caliber would be unacceptable, I think.

dang how much is Lackey going to cost us
if we’re considering Harang for that much?
Doesn't really work that way
Lackey is what the 2010 market will bear. Harang was yesterday’s market, and as he’s on waivers, there’s evidence that not many will bear it.
I'm down with Harang
if only so I can say his name with unnecessary flourish.
Haaa-RANG!
Tell your statistics to shut up
Harang By The Numbers
First the Good:
-His K/BB ratio is good.
-Harang’s 132/38 (3.5 K/BB) ratio is similar to Weaver’s (137/47) and better than Lackey’s (93/32).
-Strikeout per nine for Harang sits at 8 Per 9 Innings pitched. That is pretty damn good as well.
-His BAbip is at .342.
That is awfuly high. A move to the defensive minded Halos would point to significantly better numbers in WHIP and ERA.
The Bad:
-His high ERA is not a result of the ballpark he plays in, as his home split (3.70) is significantly better than his road (5.18). The theory that taking him out of the Reds ballpark for his home starts would help his is actually incorrect.
-Harang gives up an awful lot of Home Runs, 22 this year. Yuck.
-Mr Harang. looks weird. Adding another Donkey-like looking player to pitch alongside Lackey brings us dangerously close to the dreaded “Ugliest Team” award.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
Beware single-season home/road splits
His career splits are less severe, and pitchers generally do better at home, all other factors being equal.
A lot of good points.
But isn’t ERA a questionable stat. Now hear me out, but a ground ball pitcher with a poor defense behind him could have an inflated ERA as opposed to a solid defensive team.
Behind the likes of Figgins, Aybar, Izturis, and Morales, I think Harang could drop that ERA quickly. He has a lot of strikes and can eat a lot of innings. And as Uncle Arte mentioned previously, we have the financial freedom to acquire another picture.
Personally I think we’re getting a lot out of our AAA Pitching Staff, but can they continue to produce, now with Saunders on the DL.
