Hank Conger: The Korean God of Walks?
OK, it doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as Kevin Youkilis’ nickname, but for now, it’ll do. Has anyone else noticed how Hank Conger, our prized young catcher, has turned into a veritable walking machine down at AA? It’s apparent that now that Scioscia and Hatcher have found religion, they’re preaching it to the kids. And at least one of them is listening.
Last year, Hank the Bank had only 14 walks ALL YEAR. Sure, he only played half the season due to injuries, but still. This year, he has 23 walks in only 37 games since his all-star break, resulting in a post all-star break line of .321/.419/.470. He had only 19 walks before the break, so apparently, something clicked. Furthermore, he is striking out less. Very cool (Overall, his slash stats are .298/.367/.421 – the power IS down this year, but I don’t see a reason to be alarmed…yet).
He is developing nicely and should be ready by 2011. That way, we can have TWO catchers sitting on the bench behind Mathis.

Ha!
Anyone with some insight on how Hank is doing defensively this year (looking towards you, Mr. Ghan)? Also, the ballpark in Arkansas does typically deflate power numbers, correct? It will be fun to see what he can do in Salt Lake next year…
By the numbers, Hank's D is looking pretty solid.
He’s tossed out a decent but unspectacular 29% of base stealers and allowed only one passed ball, though he’s committed a relatively high 11 errors. I haven’t read a scouting report on him in quite awhile, because he’s really flying under the radar right now in the national press, but he sure looks like a legitimate catcher to me.
The Arkansas park and a lingering wrist injury contributed to his low power numbers, so I agree with you about Hank’s potential to explode in Salt Lake next year.
im excited for hank.
definitely can see him bringing some consistent gap pop to the lineup down the line
RIP Nick Adenhart
He will probably get traded before he wears an Angel uniform on a regular basis.
Hey la, hey, Halo...
Based on what?
When was the last time the Angels traded a prospect like Conger?
~Till the Halo burns out...
That has more of a southern ring to it...
Mississippi maybe? Lousiana?

If I recall correctly
His grandfather really liked Hank Aaron, so he dubbed his grandson Hank. The nickname stuck.
In Remembrance of Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, Henry Pearson. Heal soon Jon Wilhite.
I want Andrew Thomas Gallo to be a pinata, and the Angels supply the bats...
Oh, and W6G.

Though maybe it should be the Korean God of Wok instead?

He's stuck behind the wonder child
Jeff Mathis. So he will be in AAA with Brandon Wood.
First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.

Two catchers behind Mathis
Nah. By the time he’s ready in 2012-13, Vlad will be winding down and Nap will be the full time dh. So only One catcher behind Mathis.
:)
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
sounds about right.
Nappy playing 1B/DH in 2011.
RIP Nick Adenhart 4/9/09
I blog about the Angels at The Diamond Aces
I'd rather see
Nap and Hank split catching duties and DH with the team carrying a third catcher for emergencies, keeping both guys fresh and getting them 500 ab’s a piece. Nappy will be what, 30 in 2011? I bet he’ll still be able to handle catching just fine.
The title of this post is misleading
I thought Byung Hyun Kim was known as the Korean God of walks.
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
