I grew up a Dodger fan. I was 7 when they came to town and my dad
who is now 91, was so excited that LA was getting a baseball team that it was contagious. Later they became Angels fans, and a bit later so did I. I was probably the only third grader at my school reading the sports page every morning, or at least the only girl. I can’t remember if that’s when I first discovered Jim Murray.

I don't know what converted my parents,
other than just going to some games when the Angels first became a major league team.
There were several years of overlap, though, because both teams were fun to watch. My conversion started later, in the mid 1970s when Autry decided he’d get people interested in the team if he broadcast some of the home games.
There was an Angels player who lived in our apartment building in 1970, but I have no idea now who that was. Really young and tall and blond, but I have forgotten his name over the last 39 years.

when we lived up north. He sounded like he had a mouthful of marbles. Very old marbles. Maybe he’d had a stroke, but the Giants fans loved him. He was hard to listen to after hearing both the Angels and the Dodgers announcers.
