FOR THE LA ANGELS, TONY REAGINS HAS TURNED TO STONE (MAN). - Bleacher Report
This team is NOT the same as teams past. This team has the hitting. This team has the patience at the plate. What this team doesn’t have is the pitching. So do something, Tony.

rallymonkeys: Penny could have value to Angels
Brad Penny clearly would have value to the Angels if he clears waivers on Saturday when the 72-hour window for released players closes. The veteran right-hander was handed his release by the Red Sox on Thursday to open roster space for reliever Billy Wagner, acquired from the Mets in a waiver deal.

Angels deserve MVP consideration, but who? - FOX Sports on MSN
A Los Angeles Angel belongs in the forefront of the discussion. The problem is determining which Angel is most valuable to the club.

August 28 - BR Bullpen
Events, births and deaths that occurred on August 28.
1962 - Angels thumpers Lee Thomas, Leon Wagner, and Buck Rodgers hit consecutive home runs in the 4th inning of a 10 - 5 trouncing of Kansas City.
1991 - Jim Eppard of the Salinas Spurs of the California League plays all nine positions as the Spurs defeat the San Bernardino Spirit, 2-1. Eppard gets credit for the win by pitching a scoreless 5th inning. The former California Angels OF becomes one of the few left-handers to play every position in a single game.

I think Regins has probably tried to do something...

I bet he put a claim in on Wagner. BoSux had the worse record though…

the pains of being a first place team with a winning record….

I'm sure he's made an effort and...

You can’t always get a Cliff Lee or maybe he’s wise enough not to overpay for Halladay. Maybe he doesn’t trust Peavy’s arm to come back in September. Could Pedro have helped us? Or Smoltz? Or Byrd?

There are so many pitchers out there that were traded or released or signed in the middle of the season that are helping other teams right now I’m just wondering if we could have been one of those teams AND if it would have made an impact. I guess we’ll never know.

As I’ve said in other posts, if we make the playoffs it’s probably not relevant. We’ve got a good three man rotation. I’m just hoping we play better in September than we have the last 2 weeks of August.

i know we scouted pedro...

and afterward publicly said we were no longer interested. So there was definitely something there we didnt like.

I dunno, I think the only two pitchers that are worth giving up the farm for were Halladay and Cliff Lee. But the Jays definitely wanted way too much and as far as Lee, who knows, maybe Ninja made an offer but the Indians liked what the Phils gave up instead.

Most people

dont understand that if a team claims these guys and they have a worse record than us we don’t get a chance to go after them. There are on;y so many people that get to a team that has one of the top records in baseball. And are they better than options we have in house?
We don’t need new pitching we need BETTER pitching. Remember we have… Weaver (the better one) Lackey, Saunders and Santana. Come playoffs the 5th man is irrelevant. We need those 4 guys to pitch longer in games by being more efficient with their pitch counts.

Quit Bitching about Wood not playing, The guy does deserve his shot but quit pretending that we have Willie Mays riding the pine
