Scott Kazmir an Angel. Nickname: Kashmir
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My shangri-la beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high and true, when movin through Kashmir.

I've always thought
Kazmir had the potential to be another Mark Langston.
Or is Kendry perhaps the one who needs to sit?
I'm happy
The time is out of joint; oh cursed spite, that ever I was born to set it right.

Fired up over Scott
Welcome Scott Kazmir, to the pitching haven Halos! May you prosper.
Two immediate thoughts. Arte & Co. are pleased with how Kendry and Johnny Rivers are working out, therefore deal for an arm. And: Wake up call John Lackey!! Your move!
No witty sig here.

Rays fan here
We will miss Kaz and hope he pitches well in Anaheim. Such good times…he was the face of the Rays organization for years.
:’(
Tonight Rory mentioned that Butcher had worked with Kaz a couple of years ago,
and had helped him with his pitching.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Welcome Scott Kazmir...
Thrilled to have you! Thank you to all the AAA arms that helped us out this year getting through the tough times. You’ll help the big club in the future… just have a little patience.
SP1: John Lackey
SP2: Jered Weaver
SP3: Ervin Santana
SP4: Scott Kazmir
SP5: Joe Saunders.
Goddamn, not too shabby.
Kaz is hot right now, which explains why the Rays FO decided to trade him now instead of before the deadline
Post-DL stint he has around a 3.5 FIP or something like that. The only ? is his health and stamina.
Stoked
I’m excited to see what he can show us before we hit the playoffs. Our rotation has quite a bit of upside for the next few years.
Get ’er done Scott.
wondering what Ortiz did with that game ball...
Like someone else mentioned in the last thread--Most Ninja Move This Year
And he’s locked up for at least another couple of years!
I wasn’t so sure about this one at first—kind of a “huh? weird…” reaction, but now…The more and more I think about this trade the MORE I LIKE IT!!!
WELCOME ABOARD SCOTT!
RIP Nick Adenhart.

Kashmir. How far is that from the Kazbah?
We don't have a Bullpen. We have a Cowpen. Before we get to call it a Bullpen these guys gotta grow a pair.
The Casbah is in Algiers, but several cities in North Africa have a walled citadel called a "kasbah".
Kashmir is in Northern India.
You could look it up. ;-)
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Uh, thanks teach!
I was punning with Rev’s nickname.
(“I’m sorry Pepe. He thought you were going to escape.”
“And so I have, my friend.”)

Nice one Rev! How can we go wrong with Kashmir? Classic.
With a name like that, we can not fail. Hello, Bud? Yep That’s right, you can book your World Series reservations for Anaheim.

Can somebody tell me how this worked out?
Was Kaz put through waivers and nobody claimed him till us? Find that hard to believe. I thought trade deadline was it unless waivers. What am I missing? Whatever it is, I am happy.
W6G!
Nobody claimed him
because he was just back from physical rehab and he does have a big contract – somewhat a risk…
Wow. Well lucky for us.
I really hope and think Butcher can bring this guy back to super levels.

Hopefully we won't have to sing "Rock the Kazmir" too often 'round here.

Do we have that
Crazy Kazmir Jive!!!
Angels baseball. We do what we must, because we can -- HaloDutch
I like the nickname
But I think we need to wait until he pitches for us before we can give him a real nickname
Plus also ask our taiwanese friends …
Don't call me Desmond!
Time to don your Halo Scott........
welcome aboard.

Kazmir's velocity
He has been injured this year and spent over a month on the DL. Earlier this year he was getting rocked and his velocity was way down from his peak year of 2007 when he led the AL in Ks with 239. A hopeful trend is that his velocity is much better now than it was prior to his stint on the DL.

Kashmir
Fantastic pickup. I thought we’d pull that one off prior to the trading deadline…any idea who the player to be named later is? Hopefully it’s not another pitching prospect as Maddon knows who and where the gems are (former Angels pitching coach). I also hope it’s not Sean Rodriguez.
The Other Shoe
I must, I need to see it drop. Who is this PTBNL Maddon is so excited about? And why is it still unknown as of this writing?

I'm confused
Since we acquired him after the trade deadline, doesn’t that mean we can’t use him on our playoff roster? If that’s the case, shouldn’t we have pulled the trigger on this before the deadline??
(I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, I just rolled out of bed and my brain isn’t working yet)
RIP Nick. We will miss you!
He just...
needs to be in an Angel uniform by Aug 31. that’s the cutoff. so if we made the trade late in the day next Monday, he probably wouldn’t make it. but plenty of breathing room by getting it done last night.
I heard this answered on the radio pre-game last night from Throwbacks, which is really the only reason I know the answer.

waivers
There are two trade deadlines: the 07/31 non-waiver deadline, and the 08/31 waiver deadline.
After 07/31, players cannot simply be traded at-will; rather, they must be placed on waivers and either (a) clear waivers, in which case they can be traded to any team, or (b) be claimed on waivers, and either be pulled back by the waiving team (in which case the player cannot be traded for the rest of the season to anyone) or traded to the claiming team at the top of the list (reverse order of record, first within league, then without).
Players who are not on a team’s 40-man roster can be traded without having to go through the waiver process.
Thus, Kazmir either (a) cleared waivers or (b) was not claimed by any AL team with a worse record than the Angels. Otherwise, he could not have been traded here. By contrast, no waivers would have been involved if he were traded prior to the 07/31 deadline.
great band, terrible live
I much prefer the studio recording:

see, no contest really. and I heard a few references to him as “Kashmir” before the trade was even final yesterday… so Halo fans are definitely on top of this one.
