Kowbell Snubbery

So I see a story on Yahoo Sports by Gordon Edes in which he contrasts this year's underachievers with players who have overachieved, position by position.  I just know I'm going to be reading about our beloved Kendry when first base is discussed, but lo and behold, Edes lets us know how incredibly Billy Butler has performed this year in Kansas City.  His reasoning: 45 doubles.  That's right.  Butler has hit 13 fewer home runs, driven in 21 runs less, has a lower OPS and slugging percentage in 30 more AB's than Morales, but apparently his five extra doubles puts him over the top.  He then goes on to tell us what a great accomplishment hitting 45 doubles is at the age of 23, but then immediately lists SEVEN CURRENT players who have achieved the same feat(?)- two of which had done it TWICE!  And we all know how important those 45 doubles have been to the Royals this year.

Everyone said losing Leigh Teixera's Husband would do us in

and now most of them won’t even give us props for getting the same production out of K-Mo

So let me get this straight.

Kendry was snubbed because the writer doesn’t think that he overachieved the most at his position. Am I the only one not perturbed by this?

This team is our extended family, That's why we love them no matter what the record, no matter what the score.

I was really sort of kidding.

To use the word “snub” would imply that the list was actually something players longed to be a part of, like say, the actual All-Star game, and

My point was more what Rev was talking about. The guy goes out and replaces a 20 million dollar gold glove rake-ist, if you will, and has put up comparable numbers under the pressure that comes with such a task. So in that regard, he has over-achieved, or exceeded expectations. I just want to see him get all the credit we know he deserves.

Maybe the point was lost in tone and dry stout beer.

Apologies in advance.

Ok.

I assumed you were actually upset by it. I didn’t take into account the possible alcohol affect.

Maybe this is all BECAUSE it was Dry Stout Beer.

But you don't understand...

any baseball article written that is not about the Angels is a direct slap in the face of the organization!

I know, I know.

Like wihalofan said, damn mid-west bias

Yeah, that's clearly the point I made.

It actually enrages me that ANY journalist ANYWHERE would have the audacity to write an article about ANYTHING without mentioning this team.

You are a master in the skill of deduction. Good job, proud of ya.

Apologies in advance.

Well it's obvious. Billy butler was supposed to suck.

And playing for the royals no one doubted that theory.

First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.

No big deal

Everyone in baseball knows that Kendry is one of the biggest stories of the season. He is not only the first baseman who has most greatly exceeded expectations, but he arguably is the best first baseman in the AL.

That said, give the Royals fans something to feel good about too.

True, indeed.

However, let the Royal fans get stoked on Greinke. First base is ours.

Apologies in advance.

Naw, first base is for the Sawx

We all know YOUK is the best there ever was there, right, so why kid yourself? ;-D

RIP Nick Adenhart.

Youk

Yep the best first baseman who should be playing third base in the game.

Morales gets snubbed

every time Scioscia pencils him into the 7 spot

Just wait until next season.

At this point K-Mo is still underachieving. So he is right in giving him the snub. Give Kowbell some seasoning, and his proper place in the order (3rd, or 5th). Then watch the props, and his inclusion to this list, begin to happen.

It's important to note...

That Gordon Edes is a Red Sox honk – despite a substantial run at the LA Times in the 70s and 80s — like all the others. The only way to silence the them is to beat the teams Edes, Gammons, et. al. regularly fellate, in the playoffs.

Nothing else matters — not even this week’s series v. Skanks and Sox.

by davidbrad65 on Sep 14, 2009 1:54 PM PDT reply actions

"overachieve" means to do better than expected

Edes is giving Kendry a great compliment by NOT mentioning him, just like he didn’t mention any of his beloved Yankees, since (in Edes mind, anyway) they’re expected to perfrom well.

I don’t think this is a snub. It’s quite high praise.
