Do we go 3 man or 4 man rotation in the Playoffs?
With Saunders regaining form, Weaver turning it around, Kazmir pitching well, and Lackey looking great, is it better to use the old 3 man rotation? And who starts and who goes to the bullpen. Or do we use a 4 man and add just one more name into the bullpen.

I'd say go to the 4 man
I think it was a huge mistake last year to go to the 3 man. Possibly the best pitching performance we got last year in the postseason was Weaver who was coming out of the bullpen. I would have much rather had Weaver vs Wakefield in Game 4 than an extra Saunders/Beckett matchup.
This year it’s more of the same, the Angels advantage is DEPTH, why they chose not to utiliize it I don’t think we’ll ever know.
I agree with tthe 4 man
And I hope it’s Santana in the ’pen. Without a limit, he could really turn it loose and his stuff would be electric.

When he's had head problems,
He also seemed better out of the pen — less time to think, essentially an F-it let’s pitch.

Perhaps he could substitue
for a Brian Fuentes in the right situation
RIP Nick Adenhart 4/9/09
I blog about the Angels at The Diamond Aces
Would that right situation be
holding a lead greater than 5 runs?
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

I think we play Detroit
and we stick to a 3 man rotation. Santana will be in give us something in the BP.
They want power, We want respect...
We only play Detroit
if Texas wins the wild card. Hellllloooooo ’Sux!
Texas has really shitty teams coming up.
BoSox will collapse in the last week.

Well we won't get to pick. it depends on the series.
If you are asking about pitching on short rest: NO
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.
Likeliest matchup?
Game 1 ALDS – Weaver vs. Beckett?
We are the Los Angeles Angels of the late 2000s
I think
Game 1 Lackey vs. Beckett
Game 2 Kazmir vs. Lester
Game 3 Weaver vs. Wakefield
Game 4 Santana/Saunders vs. Buchholz
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart #34
I'd rather have Kaz throw in Game 3
He has tremendous success in Fenway where as WTY is Jekyll and Hyde. WTY in Fenway is no bueno.

Weaver at Fenway,m 1-1, 7.06 ERA

Weaver pitches much better at home. The ALDS will be night games. Give him game 2
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.
Jay Cal...
I just posed a similar question in the Monday Hololinks thread. I didn’t see this in time. You posted well before me. Apologies.
LEFTIES
a weakness of Boston especially, but we have a good advantage with two lefties in the rotation against NYY, TEX and DET as well.
Prior to the Kazmir trade I called Mel From Fullerton’s analysis that Ervin should be in the bullpen “ludicrous” but now it makes sense with Power Lefty Kaz starting.
Stick with a 4-man rotation and put Ervin in the bullpen for long relief/extra innings. Lackey and Weaver in games one and 2, Kazmir and Saunders in games 3 and 4, mainly because Kazmir has shown (in an admittedly small sample size) an ability to succeed in Fenway.
I don’t think we want Lackey going on short rest. If the Angels can’t win 2 out of the first 3 with Lackey-Weaver-Kaz, then Lackey on three days rest isn’t going to help in game 4.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!
it
depends on the days we play. there are two different schedules one demands a 4 man rotation and the other allows a 3 man
One time...
We don't discuss this until October.

Angels
Remember last year when Torre used Maddix 3 times out of the pen? All 3 times he blanked them— This is what id do—set up the rotation with Lackey at home Kazmir at Boston and Saunders at Boston-Use Weaver and Santana both in the pen-they have both done great there-only use Jepson-Palmer and Fuentes-that is still 8 pitchers for 7 games-just cordinate our staff this way-Todays game is different than the past-7 innings is about all you get out of todays pitchers and if done right this will work- show me another of the 7 play-off teams with 8 pitchers as good as the Angels? NONE! I really think this will work-Pitching wins short sieries always dont hope for a great single performance-use the whole staff-it is a great one-think about how many nobodies _ (hitters-bucky dent-etc) have starred in the post season-It takes a team—there are no Sandy Koufax or Bob Gibson today!-
