I blame Soscia for last nights loss ...Here are my points

Point 1 - He keeps going to Fuentes and this dog keeps blowing big games and cannot be trusted in the playoffs.  Find another answer please.

Point 2 - If you are going to walk big Papi, why don't you hit the SOB.  They took our big slugger out of the game and we just sit and say "that's OK"?  Who knows how long Vlad will be out with bruised ribs.

Point 3 - When you have a lead in the 9th don't you think you could make a couple of defensive adjustments.  How about Willits or Mathews in left and right field.  Rivera was slow and really weak in his attempt at the fly ball in left.  If was if he just gave up.  Mike, you need to make this adjustment - no excuse.....

Point 4 - If we don't get by Boston this year with all the talent that is on this roster then Mr. S. should be taken to the woodshed.  I can handle losing to the Yankees even though they stole Texiera from us but not Boston.

I HATE THE REDSOX!!!!!!!  Do not lose another game to them like this.

i must admit

POINT 2 ABOVE made me smile.

by Rev Halofan on Sep 17, 2009 12:12 PM PDT reply actions

Point 2

I think Fuentes was trying to throw a strike, but it’s kind of hard to do when you have the mental makeup of a child.

What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

by clover_black on Sep 17, 2009 12:16 PM PDT reply actions

Well

Point 1: Fuentes has been poor lately, but he recorded three outs last night and ‘came through’ against a tough opponent in a tough stadium.

Point 2: They didn’t hit Vlad on purpose. The tit-for-tat macho crap in sports needs to go along with its fans. What purpose does hitting Ortiz serve other than to anger and rile up the Sox, while giving them the satisfaction that they got in our heads, while also jeopardizing the health and well being of another human being?

Point 3: I agree to an extent, and he should have gotten it…but I also can’t imagine how discouraging it was to be fuming with anger that you were standing in the outfield waiting to record a fourth out. Yes, he did fuck up…but he’s human.

Point 4: No Angels team has come within 30 miles of the Angels’ success under Scioscia. We already have an unprecedented 6 consecutive winning seasons. We’ve been to the playoffs more times (counting this year because why not) in the last 6 seasons (5 times) than we did in our Franchise’s first 40 years (3 times). We also have our only title over him. Give it a rest.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Sep 17, 2009 12:19 PM PDT reply actions

Point 1

Scioscia is building a body of evidence that will allow him to use another pitcher as the closer. These games are meaningless compared to potential playoff games.

Play Wood already. Willits sucks.

by hauldog on Sep 17, 2009 12:27 PM PDT reply actions

Regarding point 4..

Scioscia ain’t going anywhere. Nor should he.

I love this team.

1. Who are we going to replace him with? Bulger, maybe. Jepsen, maybe. I don’t know if i want either of them out there either. And don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t in love with Fuentes’ performance out there last night but he was pretty unlucky. Two soft grounders found holes, Nick Green walked on four strikes, and whats-his-name hit a blooper on a pitch out of the strike zone.

2. yeah, your probably right.

3. Rivera has actually been one of the best LF in game if you care about UZR

4.No

And yes, i hate the red sox too

by gary matthews jr. jr. on Sep 17, 2009 1:27 PM PDT reply actions

it wasn't 2 soft grounders

it was 1.
the other grounder was screaming down the 3rd base line before figgins dove and saved the game from being blown.
Why couldn’t he have just missed it and saved all the drama for another team getting screwed in boston?

by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Sep 17, 2009 10:49 PM PDT up reply actions

My Point is

I think Mike Scioscia should have done a lot more then sit there and yell from afar at how he thought the umpiring was shit. Why talk shit after the game to the umpire and face a fine or suspension.

Say what you think and let it be know right then at the time it happened. Stand up for your team and your organization. Let the Umpires and others know you wont continue to be lil bitches. You ask your players to play hard and leave it on the field each day Scioscia. Well every once in awhile you have to suit up and fight the fight and leave it on the field as well. What happened last night and at the time it happened was the perfect time to let loose and let the umpire(s) know just what you thought. Knowing your leader has your back is always a positive boost. The Angels could have used it right there!!

Chapter 10

Through the south. I like it, but haven’t read in a few days (was dealing with computer issues).

I think it’s interesting what minor league teams have to do to stay in business…or at least what they had to do when the book was written (1991). I hate to say it, but I’ve never been to a minor league game. I’ve been to a few independent league games and found all the “gimmicks” annoying, but now I understand why they do it.

by WiHaloFan on Sep 17, 2009 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Never been to the Minors

It has gotten better as far as the quality of the stadiums, but also a good understanding of what the minor league player goes through during the course of the season

I see your point of view

I love the picture example. Yes, where is Sweet Lous’ indignation when we need it. I am still reeling over the playoff loss to the White Sox and the stupid 3rd strike call that turned the entire series a few year back. This is exactly what I feel. Of course there is a time for getting up and screaming about an issue. That was the perfect moment. It is not the time for saying, oh well, they are a good umpire crew. That is just protecting yourself. The game is bigger than that and can handle a periodic outrage on a poor call. Your look doesn’t do anything except make us fans angry. (At least a few of us)

Overall I agree that Scioscia has done a terrific job but we have lost to the Red Sox in 4 playoff series and have lost 12 of 13 playoff games i believe. This is unacceptable and I will not give a free pass for not getting by these smug dogs every year.

You can’t tell me Riviera is our best defensive option in the 9th inning. When you are up by one run entering the inning you should put your best defensive players in to secure defense. I don’t think this was even discussed which I think is unbelievable for a manager who has managed for years and is considered a premier manager. It was one of the critical errors that cost us the game and this is on Scioscia.

And finally, this is baseball. To say that they didn’t mean to his Vlad is more apologetic response. My understanding is that he will now be out for several games. Oh well, our arch enemy didn’t mean to do it. Come on……

Point 1 – Your alternate closer would be who? And if that closer blew the game, do you promise me you wouldn’t say “Why didn’t he go to Fuentes?”

Point 2 – Yes, we want some suspensions! Great idea! And more headhunting … that always works out well.

Point 3 – You can’t seriously believe that Reggie Willits is a good defensive outfielder! Nice guy, hustles, but please. And in close games, do you want Rivera’s bat out of the lineup? What if we went to extras?

Point 4 – And replace Scioscia with who?

I get it, you’re angry. But there is a fine line between “Righteous Anger” and “Village Idiot.”

I call BS

ahemmm,

response 1: I am not the coach. But we need better. To not desire it is just rolling over.

response 2: A suspension to Scioscia for a game would be a good thing in my opinion. If our assistance can’t manage a game as good as this past game was managed, then we need new coaches. I think it would boost the morale of the players to see their head coach take one for the team every once and awhile when it is needed and last night it was needed.

response 3: We were ahead in the 9th and I still maintain that best baseball logic is that you put in your best fielders in the late innings to maintain the lead. Matthews, Willits whomever. It doesn’t matter, Rivieras effort and positioning was pathetic.

response 4: I said take him to the woodshed, not replace.

by fosberry on Sep 17, 2009 5:36 PM PDT up reply actions

this is so retarded.

Rivera is a better fielder than Willits or Matthews. Yes, he’s slower, so on that ONE PARTICULAR PLAY one of those two would might have had a better chance at it. But more likely they would have got a bad read on it off the bat and come nowhere close. Give it a rest.

I'm over it now, turn the page

We’re going to win in October – this is Adenhart’s season – everything between now and then is just high drama….

"Juan is an aggressive Outfielder, he dives all the time"

Scioscia’s comments onthe Dan Patrick call, saying he hadn’t seen a replay on the final play of the game, but thought if Juan could have made a play he would have.

Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.

by AlanFalcon on Sep 17, 2009 3:34 PM PDT reply actions

Soth is nothing if not loyal

Rev once pointed that one of Scioscia’s greatest assets is also a weakness. He is intensely loyal to his players. I’d take this and his success that this brings any day.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

by Moondoggy on Sep 17, 2009 3:49 PM PDT up reply actions

If he had a problem with the effort on the play...

he would talk to Juan directly about and yet still say what he said on the Dan Patrick show today.

I love this team.
