Angels Shut Out the Rangers; Clinch AL West!
That's right, we fly flags here in Anaheim.
Final Score: AL West Champions Angels 11, Rangers 0
There's certainly a lot of players to highlight in this clinching game to talk about...
First, we have the amazing performance by Ervin Santana, pitching a CGSO!
And then Bobby Abreu, who was just a HR shy from hitting for the cycle.
Or Kendry Morales, with a 3/3 day and belting a HR in the 1st to make a strong statement early.
Then again, we can also highlight the fact that 7 different players scored a run for us...
Plus the fact that 6 different players racked up an RBI...
Oh, this was quite a game indeed. And what a game to clinch the AL West for the 3rd consecutive time.
We don't take no mess.
We fly flags in Anaheim.
And we will never forget...
This is for you Nick!

Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Yeah
If Texas wins every game, and Boston loses every game. Then the Rangers take the Wild card.
The Big Red Machine V.2 is coming this Fall 2009. Go Halos!
Or are they tied?
I guess if they tie and Boston loses ’em all and Texas wins ’em all then Texas would win. :D
Too bad our AAA team is going to lay the smack down tomorrow.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Meaning we have to lose,
the next two.

This is a four game series?
Well, it may not be that far-fetched, then.
by shiftyeyedgoat on Sep 28, 2009 11:28 PM PDT up reply actions
OMG, they showed the Angels clinching the title on the local news
before they covered the Dodgers game.
I said it before, but I love the juxtaposition
Angels win, clinch, 11-0
Dodgers lose, fail to clinch, 11-1
Something poetic there I think.

Good night all....
And good, good game.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Huh, ESPN still has us at 99.5% to make the playoffs
despite being mathematically impossible to NOT be in the playoffs.
Eat a bag of cocks, ESPN!

When Yankees clinched home field advantage yesterday, they didnt update it for about 12 hours

Timing seems lame to me
Every team celebrates a pennant. It is one hell of an achievement.

Actually, I have always thought she was an Angels fan.
I like her columns much more than the ones by Mike di Giovanna. Most of the time he can hardly find a nice thing to say about the team.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Bronx native,
Angel beat-writer for 3 years in the late 80s, early 90s.
Who’s to know where her loyalties lie… don’t forget Torre was an Angels broadcaster for 6 years.
by shiftyeyedgoat on Sep 28, 2009 11:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Her columns have tended to gush a bit about the Angels, that's why I said that.
I really don’t understand the comment about Torre, unless you think that he should have turned down the job managing the Yankees because of loyalty to the Angels.
He speaks respectfully of the Angels.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Just saying journalists have no loyalties
and write what their editors tell them to, especially for huge mega-media congloms like LATimes, Chicago-Sun, etc.
by shiftyeyedgoat on Sep 29, 2009 12:00 AM PDT up reply actions
Uh, sort of, yes. But she usually writes columns that praise the Angels, unlike diGiovanna. Although, he has been better this year.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
I've always thought diGiovanna had a nasty predisposition
to overvaluing Angels minor-league talent.
Just from cursory looks at Helene’s articles, it looks like she spends her time spread out all over the LA sport-scape, which to me says she’s just parroting what ESPN Boston and the Globe will be reporting in the morning:
“Yes, the Angels won the division, but we’ll just crush them. Again.”

Lots left before the game ended...
I had about 10 people in my section in the 7th inning at whom I yelled: “Where the HELL are you going? There’s going to be a celebration here TONIGHT!” They stuck around even though they had packed up and started leaving!
I love this team.

2009 Angels Season: Let's Do This For Nick

This is nice...
“All in all, the Angels had themselves quite a celebration, looking awfully happy for a team that probably will get pummeled by the Boston Red Sox very soon.”
Does she write for the LA Times or Boston Globe? What a beeyotch.
I've got nothing.
Worse, a drunk in a bar tried to insist that it was Adenhart's fault for riding with a drunk driver.
We told him what had happened. What idiots most people are.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
What a Kathy Killjoy
Ugh…reading that LA Times article was tough
Awesome Game
I know this is late but I just had to post. I just got home from the game and it was incredible. You could just sense that the team wanted this over tonight.. It was amazing to see them go out to centerfield and pay tribute to Nick. Pouring champagne over his hat just like any other player.
I don’t care what any newspaper article says, the playoffs are the playoffs. It not like a game during the season. We can do this. In faith that I know we can… I’m buying my ALCS ticket tomorrow and so should all other Angels fans who can afford to do so.
Thank you Angels – I had a blast this season. I’ll be there celebrating again on Thursday too.
There was a point, I think it was during the 4th inning, where it seemed that
the Angels and the Rangers were playing in different time zones. I live about 4 miles from the stadium and I could feel the electricity crackling in the air from here.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
And done. Buenos noches...
Just remember, the next time Rev posts one of those ‘where were you when the Angels clinched’ threads…on September 28, 2009…you were HERE!

Alright, I'm going to attempt to got to sleep here at two am.
I think the Oreos and Diet Coke finally wore off.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Just one other question:
Why the hell isn’t Angel Stadium selling out? They didn’t sell out against the Yankees, and tonight it wasn’t sold out for a clincher.
Seems kind of pathetic.
Economy, or something else?
I've got nothing.
I just wrote this up a few threads...
I am equally as confused/infuriated by this. If I didn’t work at UCLA, I’d be there every night!
by shiftyeyedgoat on Sep 29, 2009 12:08 AM PDT up reply actions
I think that after Saturday's game...
bandwagoners may have given up… True fans were at the game today (not saying you’re not a fan if you couldn’t make it). There just were not the bandwagoneers that are there it was “real” fans.
Also, I was at Sunday’s game and Fan Appreciation Day is usually sold out and it wasn’t. I think people had given up. I’m ok with that – we don’t need bandwagoneers, we need the seats for the real fans.
by angelsfan777 on Sep 29, 2009 12:15 AM PDT up reply actions
We considered which game we could make it to this week and chose Thursday.
We have great seats, Row E behind the Angels dugout. Couldn’t believe they were still available online on the Angels site.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Weekday day game is my guess.
Enjoy the game and the celebration!!
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
It's the economy. Lots of cheap seats available.
It could be worse; you should see how few people go to an Oakland game, even when they’re winning.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Icing on our cake...
Ian Kinsler getting the 3rd out in the 9th. That’s what happens when you tell us to get the **** out of your stadium. We won’t treat you that way but it was awesome to boo you and for you to be the final out and watch us clinch.
Now THIS
THIS is a classy article.
You were right, opiejeanne, Giovanna gets my vote today.

"We're going to try to bring [Adenhart's] ring back home for him and give it to his parents," Hunter said.
“But first, we’ve got to get past the first round.”

His article today was the best one he's ever written.
I usually don’t want to read his column at all, even when we’re winning, because he sounds so dismissive of their strengths and focuses so much on their weaknesses. Most of the time he sounds like he works for ESPN.
But this, today, was great.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
There were some seriously down moments this year.
I thought the bullpen was going to seriously screw up the entire season. Well, the offense picked up the slack, then the starters have come through here at the end of the season. Glad that this team showed the heart and determination to go the distance and win the division. Sorry I gave up there in the middle of the season.
(eats crow)
(eats more)
GO HALOS!
I love this team.
we won't act like that... but it was so SWEET for him to the the final out then watch us celebrate.

I looked at LSB last night and was surprised at how many of the posters there were embarassed by his behavior,
some saying that he had earned our disdain.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Buzz kill?
I’m as happy as anyone that the Angels clinched, but I can’t be the only one a little uncomfortable with the team soaking Nick’s jersey in beer considering the role alcohol played in his death. Now let’s take care of those nasty chowds.
No. Most of us aren't Mormons.
I wasn’t raised in a home where alcohol was consumed either, but I do have a small glass of wine once every six months or so. I am well aware of the problems caused by alcohol but I will also point out the wine Jesus created at the wedding at Cana.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
That is the way it is celebrated
I am sure Nick would have wanted it that way….any other way would have just been not right.
It’s way too much ado about NOTHING
Someone else tonight pointed out that pouring out a measure of drink for a fallen companion is traditional.
They were far more eloquent than I am.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
many, many thanks
thanks so much for the play-by-plays and photos/screengrabs of the celebration. I teared up more than once while reading through all of these this morning from my desk in new york. looking forward to more celebrations!
