Angels/Adenhart tribute

If any group of people will appreciate this blog post, it's y'all.  Like most of you, I got pretty choked up seeing the boys honor Nick the other night and the first thing I thought of was my buddy Will's song, "Without You."  He's a HUGE baseball fan (Cardinals) and in a badass band called Centro-Matic.  Put the two together and it's my small tribute to a big show of class.  Hope you enjoy ... not to be all melodramatic and shit.

First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.

fade-ins, champagne flying around in slow motion, smiles, then somber reflections of Nick ...

the jersey dousing, the wall pounding, the smiling as the photos were taken at the wall.

I closed my eyes as I listened to the song and pictured it.

I love this team.

Good question

I don’t think the album from which this song comes … Love You Just The Same … is on itunes. However, Amazon has it for pretty cheap, with a link to the mp3 download. Gotta say, it’s one of my favorite albums of the past decade. Well worth a try.

I was touched by this song...

and I’m a Padres/former Angels fan.
Thanks for sharing and so rec’d.

I thought it was appropriate when the Angels shared their celebration with the Adenhart symbol out on the wall and his jersey. I would think he would have wanted that for them.

Beat those dirty, rotten, stinkin’ Red Sox and the Nation. Go Angels.

John Lackey's comment in Eric Neel's column

“You know what I really wish for? What I really think about?” Lackey said. “How much I would rather have Nick here to give his parents that ring himself.”

Goosebumps abounds.

This team is our extended family, That's why we love them no matter what the record, no matter what the score.

FOR NICK!

My only concern ...

… is that the Angels poured champagne all over Nick’s jersey in the celebration, and consquently came in for some heat for that … considering that Nick died in an alcohol-related accident.

My own feeling is that it was appropriate … that Nick was a member of the team and had he been alive he would also have been doused in champagne. I found it quite moving.

Yes.

I think that was the thought, too. I understand the concerns, but honestly. It’s what they would have done were he alive, and it’s the best way I can see to make him and his memory still very much a part of the team and it’s celebration.

RIP Nick Adenhart.

that was so wrong. I don’t know his family, and only knew Nick through the TV while he was on the team. However, he was killed by a drunk driver, while riding with a drunk driver. Do you suppose his family enjoyed watching his effigy in center field and jersey doused in booze? Why not take a golf cart from the field crew and crash into the center field wall? How about we shotgun a beer in memory of Donnie Moore.

How this escaped Mark G is beyond me. No comment from him. Bill M looks like a coke burnout, so I guess his sensitivity is dulled. Physioc is a geek who is blinded by the jocks he now hangs out with, and Rex is just a bundle of energy. Goobie seems smart compared to the average baseball player (who is doubtless the dumbest of any professional athlete). Goobie has no excuse, didn’t even mention the irony.

Why Artie or Reganis didn’t tackle the first idiot who started dumping beer on that jersey is beyond me. Class move by Weaver to empty his tall boy on the picture in CF, then throw his empty can over the wall.

I hope they beat the Sox, then Yanks, then Dodgers. However, I hope someone in the organization has the sense to tell the guys, though their hearts are in the right place, not to do this again. So inappropriate.

Physioc must have naked photos of Artie or someone high up at Fox

Chill out dude.

His family was quite OK with the way the celebration went down.

You missed the entire Tim Mead interview at several media outlets...

discussing how the families of those who were killed or injured in the accident felt fine with the celebration. “It was what they would have done if Nick was still with them.”

Plus we’ve beaten that horse senseless here in about 5 different threads as well.

Just channel your energy toward beating the Red Sox today, yo. Do it for Nick, he’d appreciate it.

I love this team.
