It’s not unusual for a pitcher’s velocity to be down in mid-March, so there’s no need to panic here. Last year Fuentes’ average fastball was 91.6 mph; we’re not talking about a catastrophic loss of velocity.

It's less a problem of comparing them as it is Fuentes being judged on his own merits at this point.
K-Rod, good or bad, is gone. Fuentes has to pitch better than the other guys on the team right now.

if it was my choice, I would say screw the closer “role” and go with the hot hand…….
which in this case was Jepsen……..

That hasn’t historically been a great strategy. I’m also not convinced Fuentes is done.
