The Angels will not scout Sheets
Well I guess we are not getting Sheets. Crap. I really wanted to see this happen. I think an incentive laden contract for sheets would be a good deal for the team.
I would have also liked to see the team take a gamble on Bedard.

Given his drop in demands in the article, this seems like poor judgement.

Agreed
Do they not have any airplane $ laying around? What is the harm in watching him throw?
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.
maybe theyve already kicked the tires
and realized they can’t afford an expensive injury risk.
It’s not the end of the world. Arte is not obligated to lose money. He is a business man, if the Angels’ payroll is at a point where it would tip total expenses into the black, he has every single right to hold back on mediocre question marks of players. I think Arte has earned the benefit of the doubt. $113M is not a bad place to be.
If you want my take, I think the stadium upgrades were expensive enough to restrict big spending this offseason. The Angels brand is more than what’s on the field and with the All Star game coming this summer, Arte may have viewed a facelift to be as important as leaving money for dicey pitchers.

Yeah, as long as my beer remains $6, the parking $8, and the Beach Pit BBQ
sells my Alabama Slamma combo for $20, I’m OK with 3rd place.

I believe that’s what you’re looking for.

I guess that means we already have a #5 just about locked up
or we have a #5 coming up from the minors and have no intentions of getting a last minute deal on whomever is left in February.

or it could mean the FO doesnt really care about 2010
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

I suspect that this is the road we are merging onto.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
win lose draw
all-star game is in anaheim, regardless.

Oh, they care about results.
They care that they are competitive. They care that they have a winning season. They care that they have a good shot at making the playoffs. But I doubt that they care that they are not aiming for the WS in 2010. They are not stupid. They would be thrilled to get there. But I would not be surprised to find that the 2010 WS is not an important part of the master plan.

The Angels have a group of core young players eligible for arbitration.
I believe the list includes Weaver, Saunders, Kendrick, Aybar, Napoli, Izturis and the hearings for the arbitration cases is soon. The team will be paying these players some significant raises and once the tab for the pay increases is established, then I’ m sure there will be some dollars left in the budget to pick up a reasonable priced player……there are still some good role free agents available.
The Mets are looking for a center fielder now that Carlos Beltran is most likely unavailable till June at best………..if we could only unload GMJ and part of his salary to the Mets, a lot of cash would be freed up for some other roster slots.
I was listening to Sports Talk Radio station WFAN from New York yesterday……….a lot of Met fans are upset with the Carlos Beltran situation.
There seems to be an urgency for the Mets to get a center fielder so I thought this could be a great chance to get rid of the GMJ contract. If somehow the Angels could just unload him and pay part of his salary, getting a player in return would be great, but not necessary. As for bad contracts, there common all through baseball………every team has them. The Angels thankfully are one team that is now astute with their spending and are doing it the right way………building through the draft and farm system. Makes no sense to sign a free agent past their prime to big dollars.
One other comment to the WFAN New York program from yesterday……..the show host mentioned how much Carlos Beltran means to the Mets. He stated that perhaps outside Grady Sizemore of Cleveland, there isn’t a better center fielder in the game today………Hello, guess he hasn’t heard of a one Tori Hunter !!!!!!

They don't need a new CF
They’ve got people who can chase down fly balls. What they will miss is his slash line: .325/.415/.500, .915 OPS. Tough to replace his plate appearances.

There is a sports agency in my office building....
One of the agents I saw in the elevator today growled at my Angels hat.
“Don’t like the Angels?” I said.
“Not when I’m trying to give them a pitcher!” He said.
WTF?
What agent/player was it?
Interesting that he said “give”.

I didn't get a name..
we were in the elevator together for maybe 20 seconds…
The implication I got was that he felt the price was right and the Angels were being cheap and wanted the pitcher for less money.
At least Reagins is talking to agents
I got the impression he was on vacation.
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.
That last part sounds about right.
What agency is in your building out of curiosity?

Good Question. Here is what I dug up:
Wasserman Media Group.
Not only do I provide their website, I shall give you a list of players represented!

Hey look!! Joel Piniero :)
Nice, thanks for the info
You should edit the fact that you share a building with them into the thread you made.
The vultures are having a field day over there with that omission! ;)

Showing up to watch a guy pitch
…and being able to offer him a multimillion $ contract are two very different things.
I don’t imagine the Dodgers are able to offer Sheets anything except a deal which pay him most of the money in 2020.
