Top A's Prospect Quits Baseball to Become Priest(for reals)

Stay connected for news and updates

23-year old Grant Desme a minor-league Outfielder for the Oakland A's has decided to quit baseball to enter the priesthood.

Desme was ranked the #8 prospect in the A's system by Baseball America, was #4 and a 4-star prospect according to Baseball Prospectus  and was #4 with a "B" grade by John Sickels after putting up a .288 31HR 89RBI 40SB line in A-ball this past year and also winning the Arizona Fall League MVP after missing most of 2008 with injuries and almost falling off the prospect map. Desme was a second round compensation pick in 2007 for the Barry Zito Signing.

This seems to be a big blow to the A's system, but  good news for the Angels because we won't have to face him now and at the very least robs Billy Beane of a decent trade chip.
