Los Angeles Angels of Israel
Recently, a friend of mine returned from Israel and brought me back this:
The hebrew just repeats "Los Angeles Angels" (sorry Anaheim!). He said they only had two teams in the shop, the Skanks and the Angels. Crazy, huh?
Those of you who regularly read HH know that there has been much discussion over the years about Arte's attempt to "re-brand" the Angels as a classy organization that will eventually appeal to major national and even international markets. I have heard some of you speculate that this may be the reason why we signed Matsui over Vlad. While I understand the gist of this arguement, I am no buisness and marketing expert.
So what do you MBA's out there think of this?

Otherwise known as ha-Malachei la’malachei
(The angels of the angels).

Put that on a t-shirt here and I'd buy it
now I’m curious as to what kind of locally made Halos gear our Taiwanese friends here must wear — also there should be some interesting Japanese stuff coming out soon too now that Godzilla is a Halo — hopefully not of the Hello Kitty variety.

If they were trying to appeal to the Israeli market...
..I doubt they would have let Eckstein leave. Either way, mazel tov!
he isn't Jewish
he has been asked numerous times (that and he isn’t in the Jewish Ballplayers Card Set – which came out after 2002)…yes they made one
But guess who is?

sorry to burst the bubble
they have every team for every league in Israel – I went last year. Got an Angels one and Phillies one. A bunch of tourist traps have them. Got an Angels one in one shop the Phills in another (didn’t want to bug the same shop for both because they aren’t popular teams). I have had friends who have gotten eagles and cowboys ones. (but the Angels one is mighty comfy)

Looks just like SoCal!

I once got a bottle of that as a gift.

Once saw an interview with Ernie Banks.
He was wearing a cap that spelled out “Cubs” in Hebrew.

highly doubt that shirt had any affiliation with the Angels
They have hundreds of those with every team, some alot more knockoff than others. The people who buy it buy for the effect, not the authenticity.

Adam Goldberg wasn’t bad but what do you expect from a B-comedy :P
I guess as someone said above, they have every team but I would imagine that LA and NY are biggest only because those two states have the largest Jewish population.
Although I wonder if more non-Jewish people visit Israel from the states than Jewish. Who knows.
Lets hope the mazel tov saying applies to this next season! (is that how you spell it?)
As an MBA my opinion on this would be...
I’d bet you shekels to doughnuts that whoever made that particular t-shirt isn’t paying Arte any royalties.
"All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine."
Doughnuts are SO unhealthy that in todays age of health-conscious eating, that phrase needs an update. Although I guess shekels to 6 grain gluten-free bagel doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.
Not to mention that an MBA would be among the first to know
that the dollar ain’t what is used to be…
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
Not to mention...
…a few people I know with MBAs can’t find work.
Not sure what has been more devalued, the dollar or the MBA degree. They seem a dime a dozen now with people staying in school and not working.
The dime not being what it used to be, either.
We did go through a flurry of MBA-mania. It got to be kind of like a giant series of multi-level marketing parties, being held at night in unused rooms at college campuses around the nation. Constantly re-selling the school brands. And only the first ones through got the full value. So, more like a biz-ed pyramid scheme.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
Yeah, it’s the one downside to an MBA today. Unless you go to a top-10 or so school and have direct value in getting it for how it will affect your day-to-day, I think many people go through it hoping something magical happens and then are dissappointed that it’s just another line on their resume.
But we digress…
Yeah looking closely at the shirt, I don’t see any copyright or trademark symbols but then I’m wondering how collecting royalties in any country works, at least in terms of enforcing it.
Also, I can’t tell you how many times (read: 100% of the time) when I leave a concert or huge sporting event like the Super Bowl, there are sellers of t-shirts in the parking lot, etc. and none of those are sanctioned so it happens as much here as anywhere I imagine.
Where you can make a $$$, there are always ‘entrepeneurs’…
All the MBA's on here disappointed me...
Of course the Angels are reaping any direct benefits from the sale of this shirt. My point was how crazy it was that there would even be a market in Israel for fans of baseball….and ANGELS baseball at that.
However, I realize that the only chumps buying this shirt are probably tourists from the States. Nevertheless, I didnt see any Angels baseball clothing or apparel when I visited Egypt, Europe or even f-ing Canada. Not to say it doesnt exist but it certaintly wasnt obvious if it did exist either…

The reason that you saw no Halo gear in Egypt nor Canada is because those countries
are more fans of the old Vancouver Pharoahs, which played in the Pacific Metro League back in the day.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
