Rory Markas has passed away.

Rory Markas known for the famous catch phrase "Just Another Halo Victory" passed away earlier this morning. AM 830's Sport Lodge reported it this morning and it was also being reported on KTTV, Fox 11 here in Los Angeles. In late-2008, Rory underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain, which sidelined him for about six weeks. Rory was 54 and reportedly passed in his sleep. Rory was set to be the lead announcer for the Angels this season with Mark Gubicza.

This is devastating.

I hope “Just another Halo victory” lives on.

Ugh.

RIP.

Was truly looking forward to Rory-Gubi in 2010. Their chemistry was perfect together.

Another season tainted with a good person taken away from us way too early.

I’m really depressed right now.

Rest in peace, Rory. When I think of some of the greatest moments my Angels fandom, I hear your voice describing them. Thanks for everything you gave us.

I am massively sad right now.

Can we just have ONE season without a black patch on our uniform?

I will really miss Rory.

Sad

This is sad news. It’s good to read that he passed peacefully.

Unbelievable

I think I heard him on a USC BB game just a few days ago. Talk about news coming out of left field. Condolences to the Markas family. RIP Rory, you will be sorely missed.

Totally stunned

The only Halos announcer I truly liked – never knew Rory had health issues. What a crap way to start off the new year.

"All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine."

LA Times blog aricle.

“‘I think now everybody should just celebrate what a good person he was,’ broadcast partner Terry Smith told AM 830.”

Sad news.

I really liked his voice, and he paired well with Gubicza.

Ducks game

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but before the Ducks / Dead Wings game, they had a moment of silence for Rory. After the Ducks win, the TV announcer said “Just Another Anaheim Victory”. It was a nice touch.
