Mark Trumbo is Angels Minors Player of the Year
The Angels Monday announced their 2010 Organizational Players of the Year:

Trumbo spent final month of season with the Angels, collecting his first big league hit on October 3 at Texas.
Tyler Chatwood (RHP) was named Angels Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Chatwood finished the season with a combined 13-9 record with one shutout and a 2.84 ERA (155.1 IP – 49 ER) in 27 games (26 starts) between Rancho Cucamonga, Arkansas and Salt Lake.

Great to hear Jacobo got defensive player of the year
There’s a reason why the Angels love this kid. I like him too, just not sure if he’s got the bat to be more than Rob Quinlan 2.0.

He's got a better bat I think
If you didn't know by now, my screen name is sarcastic

I dunno, Quinny was pretty good in the minors. As was Jeff Mathis and Brandon Wood.

Jacobo is organizational fodder
An .824 OPS at Rancho for a 23-year-old first baseman doesn’t scream prospect. If he was younger, or in a less hitter-friendly environment, or if he was a shortstop, then I’d be more interested.
If I stay within my mechanics, I can turn the corner and build upon this success.

That's what I suspect, though I think he will probably carve out a role as a utility player or a pinch hitter.

Trumbo did it at a higher level We have tons of players who have stolen 50 bags
We don’t have many that hit 36 HR’s.

Kinda feels like a waste
Giving this award to someone that has no future on our major league roster.

really would have thought Bourjos or Amarista for Def. Player of the Year
Though I can see with Bourjos graduating up he wouldn’t qualify
i dont get it?
Why do u guys think trumbo has no future w. Us…. I was excited about his stats… Was I wrong to b?

He is blocked at first by a better player (Morales)
And isn’t good enough defensively in the outfield to put him there.
BOURJOS BOURJOS BOURJOS BOURJOS
yea but isnt that why
He’s playing in the fall league.. To play the outfield?.. Also wasn’t their a huge question about kendry’s defense at first? .. I’m not arguing just trying to understand.. Also didn’t we f*** up with wood by waiting last minute when he’s out of options to throw him in the majors? Some insight would b nice

There were questions about Kendry's defense, but he was one of the better defenders at 1st last season.
Unless Kendry is physically unable to play the field for some reason, I don’t see him moving from there.
right but i meant
We’re questioning trumbo’s ability to play the outfield cuz he hardly played there… Same scenario as kendry… I’m just trying to understand why it seems everyones so certain of trumbo’s inability to contribute at a major league level

some people are evidsently more skilled or more delusional in their ability to judge minor league talent.
It’s up to you to decide which it is. Considering the Organization just named him Player of the Year, I am choosing to put the FO’s valuation of Trumbo above that of several internet comments.

Hmmm
I gatcha.. Yea I’m hopeful he’ll b able to produce.. This is a championship caliber team.. I think the core of this team has the potential 2010 was just that brutal kind of baseball season of underachieving collectively.. I just don’t want sosh to fuck up trumbo’s playing time like woods b4 he ran out of options

There are big question marks headed into 2011 and Trumbo is at the head of those.
It’s the same situation as Wood. We headed into 2010 with Wood at 3B, hoping to see him bash 30 HR like he’s capable of, and he floundered which contributed toward the downfall of the Angels.
If we put Trumbo in at LF in 2011, he may hit 30 HR’s and we’d be golden, or he may do exactly what Wood did and 2011 would be over before it started.
Honestly, do we want to take that chance? I’d rather stick Trumbo right back down to AAA until he shows the necessary discipline and performance to force our hand. In the mean time, there are unlimited options.

Trout
will win this upcoming yr, Trumbo was well deserving this past season, he almost won the triple crown, how could they not name him player of the year.

seriously
Trout will have plenty of time to win these things, he just turned 19. not giving it to him even though he’s been anointed the next Mantle will just keep him hungry.
