Matsui Type B FA
So MLB Trade rumors got a hold of Type A and B Free Agent rankings. Hideki Matsui is the only Angel on the list. I wouldn't mind a supplemental pick for Matsui.....

Would prefer not to offer Matsui arb
If he accepts it, we lowball him, and he wins the case, then we’re stuck with another season of at least two DHs. Abreu needs to DH at least half-time next year, and any possibility of Hideki picking up a glove again in an Angels uniform gives me the shivers. That risk is not worth a #40 pick.
I'm trying to see the upside
IF we offer Matsui arbitration and he refuses, then we get a sandwich pick (at best, the 31st most desirable player in the draft) and the team signing Matsui loses nothing (so if he’s signed by the White Sox, for example, we don’t get the Sox’s pick as well).
However, if he accepts arbitration, then we risk having Matsui under contract for 2011, even though we need the DH slot for Napoli/Abreu/anyone besides Matsui.
There is simply no good reason to consider this for more than the three seconds it takes to reject the idea.
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason
The best thing to do with Matsui
is to pretend he never played for the Angels, just as we should pretend the 2010 season never happened in the first place.

Matsuiland is in forclosure.
Peter Bourjos is faster than anyone on your team.

I don't share or understand the vitriol.
Matsui didn’t ruin the 2010 Angels’ season.
I agree that he should never play OF again, and should not be given the job as the exclusive DH. However, I agree with Scioscia’s saying that he performed about as expected. Certainly his numbers were acceptable, even if their timing was not perfect.

I cannot tell you how
I screwed up the link (Matsui) above.
Gonna have to disagree with you...
He did not single-handedly toast the season, but as an alleged #5 hitter in the lineup the man completely disappeared after Kendry went down. As a baseclogger, as a DH-clogger, he is an asset. The Angels need flexibility at the DH spot for reasons listed repeatedly.
His meaningless last month and a half of the season were just that…meaningless! Waste of roster space. Have a nice day Godzirrah.
Matsui didn't ruin the season
Matsui might have been the 12th or 13th biggest problem on the team this season after the likes of Brandon Wood, Jeff Mathis, Scott Kazmir, Juan Rivera, Fernando Rodney, Scot Shields, Erick Aybar, Jason Bulger, Brian Stokes, Kevin Jepsen, and Joe Saunders (before the trade). We can debate how his performance stacks up against the early season meltdowns of Brian Fuentes, the baserunning gaffes of Torii Hunter, and the broken leg of Kendry Morales.
To claim that Matsui ruined the Angels’ season or was anywhere near their biggest problem is just silly.
