On a potential trade of Zack Greinke: Talent is not distributed evenly, so one A-list prospect is worth a lot more than twice two B-list prospects, and so on. As silly as it sounds, a one-for-one trade for the Angels' Mike Trout, the second-best prospect in the game, would be the perfect deal for the Royals. For that reason, it's likely out of reach, but it represents the type of trade Moore needs to make: adding one or two top-50 guys, rather than a number of top-150 ones. He has depth; he's looking for stars.

Personally, I would say, "No." Why the fuck would we trade Trout?

For Grienke? I'd consider it but in the end, I'd have to say no....
Just because Trout plays everyday. I’m not sure there’s ever been anyone come out of high school and be so polished and progress so fast and love the game as much as Mike Trout. As proven and great as Grienke is, Trout may end up being so much more. Let’s just sign him to a 20 year extension right now and never let him sniff free agency.

Why stop at 25, let's just sign him for life.

Jesus Trout is eternal!
He is the Alpha and the Omega.
Artie, go ahead and sign over control of the team to the chosen one.

I agree with the suggestion that Trout plays every day = no
Greinke is a great talent, but pitching performance can be volatile and pitchers are almost by definition injury risks. I’ve always believed that you build with your everyday lineup first – they can impact the game every day, and everyday players performance is more predictable (except for ours this past year!). Pitching-wise, it’s nice to have a true ace and maybe a very good #2 guy, but after that, it becomes a matter of depth.
Intriguing suggest by Joe Sheehan – I like the fact he is thinking outside the box – but I would say no at this time.

My proposal would be Trout+ 1 of Richards/Chatwood/ or another pitcher+ C level prospect
for Greinke and Alex Gordon.
And voila 3rd base situation is solved and the rotation has 3 legit aces. Now all the Angels would have to do is sign a LF.
I took your stash.
Hell no. Our pitching staff is already top 5 in baseball, that's not a problem that needs to be fixed.
Alex Gordon is going to be 26 next season, it’s looking more and more as though he’s reached his ceiling and it’s .260 40 DB 20 HR. That doesn’t fix 3B, not when Callaspo is .290 40 DB 10 HR. Alex Gordon would be a step sideways. I like the guy and think he’s a fantastic athlete and is strong as an ox, but that just doesn’t transfer to HR’s.
If anything I’d say Grienke and Moustakas for Conger, Richards, Chatwood and Callaspo.

No way they would do that.
They wouldn’t trade their best player and their top prospect to a team without receiving that team’s top prospect(s) in return.
I don't believe Gordon has peaked at age 26
This might be a good opportunity to buy low. While I don’t think he will be a superstar, I do believe he will become an above-average 3rd baseman.I’m actually ok with Callaspo at third, but I don’t think management sees him as the solution there.

Do you really think Kansas overvalues our prospects as much as you do?
I took your stash.
The Royals apparently think differently
They have already busted him back down to AAA for the purpose of teaching him LF because he just didn’t get the job done at 3B—so why do you think he’d do any better at 3B in Anaheim?
Maybe it was unfair pressure for the Royals to have billed him as the second coming of George Brett, but there is a strong possibility that he has hit his ceiling. His power is gone, he doesn’t hit for average and he doesn’t walk nearly enough to warrant being in the lineup.

Actually, I do think the Angels see Callaspo as the solution at 3B, this team has shown no intention of pursuing Adrian Beltre.
And you’re right, this could be an opportunity to buy low, one that I’d take a shot at. I’d start poking around, seeing if KC would be interested in a Brandon Wood, Alex Gordon swap. I wouldn’t consider Gordon an everyday 3B unless he does something like hit .350 and 30+ HR in AAA. Otherwise, I’d just consider him a good solid player to have for depth. IF he lives up to hit potential, great, if he doesn’t, oh well.
Getting back to my original point though, I get the feeling that Callaspo is either going to be our starting 3B or 2B in 2011.

Instead of Gordon
I’d rather sign Andy Laroche to a minor league deal and see if he can work himself back into the player he was becoming with the Dodgers. He’s 26, very inexpensive and coming off a poor season, but still with talent.
Plus, it would be cool to have a 2nd-generation Angel on the squad.

The thought had crossed my mind when I saw he'd been DFA'd.
I honestly thought he was going to be a decent 3B. Then again I still think D-Mac would be an ok option at 3B if he could stay healthy and I used to think Wood was a SS of the future. The year was 2006 and everything was weird.

how exactly do you see 40 2Bs and .290 for Callaspo?
because he had one season with over 27. your approximation is the absolute best case scenario for him. and definitely got no hint of that last season.
and why would KC want the guy we just traded for back less than six months after trading him?
"I have one word for you...Be careful."
-Jose Guillen
Lots of reasons....
In 2010 he simply had a down year and was also trying to play through injury after coming to Anaheim which drove his BA further south. In 2009 he stayed healthy and showed the entire worls what he’s capable of, which is .300 BA and 11 HR. He hit .316, .337 and .341 in AAA, the man hits for average. I’d say .290 is pretty average for him if he stays healthy.

Is that in the world where brandon wood just hit 260 with 27 hrs?
And casey kotchman just narrowly got beat out for the batting title by howie kendrick?

Kotch and Wood never actually had one good major league season, Callaspo has.

I would do it
1 for 1 Trout for Greinke= Yes. We’d have the best 1-5 rotation in baseball with Greinke and will have enough offense to win the division with said rotation. Trout will probably turn out to be a hell of a player, but if you have a chance to get a great starter in the prime of his career for one prospect whose value is sky high, I say do it.
Agree completely
Proven Cy Young winner vs. Promising, but unproven minor leaguer. Given this club’s history in developing hitters, I know which one I would choose.
I took your stash.
Wrong
Greinke is apparently a nice kid with a smoking hot girlfriend, but he already missed one season due to anxiety disorder, which can be treated with medication but not cured. All it takes is another episode and he’s a highly-paid resident of the extended DL while he works through his issues.
Put differently, Kazmir and Greinke were both first-rounders in the 2002 draft (along with Saunders). Kazmir started out like a house afire but we can see what has happened since. The point is that past performance doesn’t mean the player will keep that momentum going into the future. It is all too easy for the wheels to come off Greinke (again) and then the Angels will have traded away a player universally regarded as the best player in the minor leagues (at 21) for damaged goods.
Too much at risk to swap Trout for him.

Using that as the rationale....
…Trout could blow out his knee chasing the girls in Napoli’s posse.
Trout has tremendous potential. Greinke has proven performance at the Major League level. I’m not advocating trading Trout at all, but come on people – Trout has not even made it to AA-ball yet. Before anointing him the second-coming of Mickey Mantle (which has been done in other HH threads), let’s see the kid deliver the goods at the AA, AAA and ML levels first.
Greinke has proven mental issues that playing in los angeles wouldnt help
He had one monster season but then last year he was not so monster.

the comparison to Mickey
was done by a sports writer, then repeated on this site. no one on this site made that comparison. in fact, from what I remember of the thread where the comparison was discussed, most HH’s laughed at the idea.

close enough
just saying it wasn’t HHs making that comparison

Really?
There’s over 150 references in HH’s fan comments to Mickey Mantle. Now of course not all them are anointing Trout as the next Mickey Mantle, but are you really sure you want declare that “no one on this site made that comparison”?
They better not have.

ok
some perhaps made it, but only after the post telling everyone that some scout originally made it. and like I said before, the post that brought this comparison to everyone’s attention was more or less being commented on as being a ridiculous comparison.
so I stand by my original statement

Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full
Angels have lack of royal fish in RF. Situation is critical. All inbounds divert until Prince Trout lands safely, over.

interesting idea
but no thank you
with Greinke’s past issues, and the fact that starting pitching is not a problem, I say no friggin way.
