FUTURES GAME ALL HALOS Angels 2010 Top Ten #7
Perhaps it underscores how bad a season the Angels had when a minor league game ranks in the season ending Top Ten. The fact that the game was hosted at Angels Stadium was secondary to the fact that three Angels minor leaguers played critical roles in the game, allowing the hometown faithful a chance to see them in action at what is hopefully their future stomping ground for years to come. Hank Conger was named the MVP of the game, Mike Trout had a big day and Luis Jimenez showed up in the box score too.
As recounted at Halos Heaven in our July 11 recap of the Angel Stadium Futures Game
Angels prospects Hank Conger and Mike Trout were human highlight reels in the MB Futures Game at Angels Stadium of Anaheim this afternoon. Conger was 1 for 3 with a 3-run HR in the 5th inning to put the then 2-1 contest between the USA stars and the World stars out of reach. Trout was 2 for 4 with a Double and a SB.
Playing on the losing side for the "World" Team in the game, "Lucho" Jimenez was 1 for 2.
Every season, the Futures Game is part of the All Star Week festivities at the chosen stadium. It takes place on the Sunday before the All Star Game. The Homerun Derby takes place on the Monday before the game and for the past few decades, the All Star Game is almost always on the second Tuesday in July.

That link to Luis Jimenez is not a pretty sight.
I believe this one would be more aprapos.
Attending the Futures game was my Angel highlight of the year
Sat next to princeton11loveshalos and his dad. Rev blew us off for some family/religion thing. Who knew that his family hadn’t disowned him or that God wouldn’t strike a church he entered with lightning?
Anyway, we had a grand time and Trout/Conger did NOT disappoint. But it’s sad to think the highlight of the year was watching three guys who will not even see significant time next year.
sigh
Well, come see a fat old man some time!
I was there
It was awesome

So was I
It was definitely sick. Managed to catch it on shaky, drunken video from way out by the LF foul pole too.

If it was the actual ASG, then I doubt it.
The price on each event was pretty steep. Even my 400-level Futures tickets were around $60 a piece face value. My HR Derby tickets were around $150 a piece and my ASG ones were something like $180 each if I recall. If it wasn’t one of those once-every-few-decades events, I wouldn’t have shelled out that much cash. I sold my ASG tickets for $500 total to my dad’s boss to help offset some of the overall cost.
I had fun at the other events and got Bob Feller’s autograph among other things, so overall it was worth it IMO.

This was definitely the highlight
of my Angels Season. I took my newphew and watched the game in our Diamond Club seats and the game was just flat out awesome. Then the celebrity softball game didn’t disappoint either with King Fish hitting bomb after bomb.
