Quite Possibly The FUNNIEST Tweet Ever
I am not sure why he wanted to throw this out there but... um okay: "@SI_JonHeyman folks fixated on jeters uzr and .ba in '10 should consider his value goes beyond numbers. #franchise, #brand, #starpower"

Finally!
Someone gets what I’ve been trying to tell girls and my creditors about my value for years!
Scioscialist Party of America - Redistributing your defense since 2000.
I don't know if it is the funniest Tweet, but surely the most bereft of logic
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason
I got a good laugh when I saw it.
no not funniest ever. but really outrageous, because he was serious.

#girlfriends should be there too
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Most of Jeter's career, including his current contract
are built around the illusion that he’s worth more than his numbers suggest…in fact, the very insistence that that is true helps lend to the belief. Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Derek Jeter becomes worth more than his numbers because we insist that there must be a reason the Yankees must pay him as much as they do, ergo the reason for him being worth so much is made evident.
Confusing? Yeah, sorry.

NOT FUNNY
How is that tweet supposed to be funny? That position has been talked about for the past several months….yet now it’s funny? Okay….
He Does have Star power….he’s one of the marketable superstars in the game….there is some value there, like how Ichiro has value or Vlad Guerrero had value for the Angels. His marketable equity is greater than the whole A’s team combined. Put that into your computer advanced stats people.
Nonetheless, 3 yrs 45 MIL is enough.
This is going to be my team, and we're going to rise together.

Jeter's Marketing Equity
Totally tied up in being a Yankee. If he signs with the Mets and they do not win it all this year his marketing equity disappears. If the Yankees finish in 3rd place every year of his new deal he loses no marketing equity due to loyalty and past accomplishments.
They had him more then he had them.
The only difference is
Vlad and Ichiro both added superstar stats in addition to their franchise marketability.
Jeter is a good shortstop, but his value has always been overstated due to the fact he plays for the yankees. But hey, at least he has #brand!

i don't think he makes the yankees that much, or much better
eric karabell talked about this recently on the baseball today podcast. the yankees do a deal because they should, but they really don’t win less games without him. defensively, they could be much better.

Jeter would be an after thought
if he played in KC
"Uhh yeah, GOLD might get you Jonas Brothers tickets. BLACK will have all three of them sucking your d***." Pat Anderson Assistant to the Assistant GM of Tampa
Of Course
but he doesn’t. He plays for the New York Yankees..the marquee team is baseball.
A lot of players play for the Yankees, that doesn’t make them SuperStars. Jeter has/had a lot of things going for him: He speaks English, he’s not ugly, he’s media friendly, charismatic, he doesn’t have HGH allegations (unlike ARod). How many MORE people tune into a Yankee game to cheer or jeer them becuase he’s on the team? Who knows. That really is what this whole “marketing equity” is about for the Yankees. Will some casual fans not watch a Yankee game if he’s not there? Probably some…but who knows how many.
This is going to be my team, and we're going to rise together.

The funny thing is, if Jeter's production continues the way it was heading last year
then this new contract is essentially every bit as bad as the GMJ contract in some senses. The only difference being the club giving it out is allowed to be as reckless and stupid as they want.
