Angels Tonight seems back in swing...
Thank gawd Mota isn't on air for now. I dig Terry Smith and Guby, but no mas Mota!
Not sure if anyone else read anything into it, but Terry said to a caller who asked what Rex was up to that "He won't be back" (might not be verbatim).
I'm guessing the Angels told Rex to not hold out hope and look for other opportunities otherwise not sure why Terry would say something as definitive unless they allowed them to say that so that there isn't any more "Bring Rex Back" talk.
Again, might be reading too much into it but it didn't leave any wiggle room. Wish Rex the best...!
I loved the remarks from Bigsy earlier in the night on the Dodger payroll situation (per article @ http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-revenue22-2010feb22,0,4788815.story ). Curious if they touch on it tonight as well.
Best Dodger fan comment on the subject via another MB: "That's scary. Even atheists will be praying that McCourt is forced to sell the team." Ha!

Sosh coming up at about 6:40pmish...
Hope he gives us some good nuggets of info! Of course the Wood / Izzy starting situation will be left to spring training but hoping he talks about it.
Chairman Dennis Kuhl would not spit out who the new announcer is going to be.
They are saying there may be an announcement later in the week.

Spring Training TV/Radio schedule...
Seems every spring training game will be on the radio. Some taped, some live (March 4th, the first game, will be live).
14 Cactus league games will be aired on TV by Fox Sports West – the first 12 will be on the radio and Fox Sports West at the same time (simulcast) but will be using the same crew so the calls will be tailored for radio despite also being shown on TV.
Several (at least 4) of those 12 games will also be on MLB network (mix of live and tape) for those with that package.
Best of both worlds!!
Listen to radio broadcast on Tv! Sounds good to me.
Happy Birthday to the ground!

what a novel thought
…hmm, didn’t that used to be the norm? Does Scully still do it that way?
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. ~Rogers Hornsby
Scot Shields on getting to know new fellow bullpen pitchers Stokes and Rodney,
“Down at spring training, once you are around these guys for a week, it seem like you have known them for years.”
The 2009 Pregame Picks Winner and Iron Man of Halos Heaven.com
I found that interesting too...
…but also, even if it isn’t true – what else can he say? Shields has always been very mature in his interviews. It’s going to take time to really know your new mates no matter what.
I found it more interesting when asked who he felt has been the greatest competitor over the years, he mentioned the top 3 – but the first out of his mouth was Ersty.
Hard to argue with that. Ersty was always nails… What I’d give to see him barrel into a catcher at home right about now.
*!&@# forgot who he said was second on the list, then added Lackey as third and honorable mention went out to Hunter.

That is different...
…because it is trying to rank Top 100 Angels. The most competitive Angels to me are very different. Some might not have had the greatest careers, stats, longevity, etc.
Take GA for example. Despite some of the Angel records he holds and great contributions, would anyone really put him in the top 20 even of true ‘competitors’, the ones who would do anything to win, hated to lose, and left it all out on the field?
For some reason my last part didn't post...
…but I was going to say, I would rank Eckstein as a greater competitor than GA, despite GA having greater god-given talent.
That might be blasphemy to some…but I’ll stand by it :)
Wha?!?! GA is the MOST competitive Angel of all time!
At bein’ lazy.

I'd say GA batting .295 for 16 years is leaving it all on the field
Say what you want about his lack of hustle in the field or his mellow demeanor, but it takes a fierce competitor to hit like that. I’d take him any day over a .260 scrapper.
True, except it makes for a boring product.
But for good or ill, baseball is entertainment. I love to have productive hitters on my team, and I love to watch entertaining players, but I really love to to have entertaining and productive players on my team.
I’m not saying I’d rather have a .220 hitting showboat than a .260 hitting workmanlike player. I’m just saying GA was about as personality-free player as we’ve had on the Angels. Some days – most days – it was refreshing. Other days, it seemed annoyingly archaic and even frustrating. His story SHOULD have been told more and a little flash now and again would have helped get it out there.

I don't think he wants his "story" out there.
He’s a phlegmatic, humble guy, he doesn’t even want the limelight.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His Saints." - Psalm 116:15 Rest In Peace, Nick.
Dude, you explicitly wrote the following about Erstad:
“What I’d give to see him barrel into a catcher at home right about now.”
So I gave you a link to a photo of Ersty barreling into a catcher. So you could see him. See him do that very thing. Right about now. And I didn’t even charge.
So what’s that got to do with GA? You’re gonna have to tell me, because I am too lazy to figure it out for myself. GA has that effect on me, and I am too lazy to figure out why that is. Or fix it.

I don't need your stinkin' photo of Ersty...
…because the real thing might be better!
Actually, nothing yet anywhere about this except from a certain blog that shall go nameless. So yeah, it might be !@#$ but…
…he is allegedly to sign a minor league contract with the Angels and accept a non-roster invitation to spring training.
Even if it does happen, not sure how it’s really going to help the team in any real sense but having him back in the fold in case of some big injuries is all good.
Nevermind, your picture is grand!
…because it seems that blog post was SH!T.
There is a reason I come here for news instead. I happened to see a link to that blog from reading something else via Google.
Can’t just say blog posts are meaningless because there are good, before-everyone-else ones here sometimes, but this one failed.
FAILED!
(and although I love Ersty, I’m happy it was a fail boat)
Yeah, it was just easier to find that pic in an older comment here on HH
than it was to find that pic on Google images. So I went with the comment find. It has nothing to do with anything else in that thread. Just the pic.

There's a Hideki Matsui Museum in Japan. OMG

Matsui's father runs the museum. It kind of looks like an imitation White House.

But that one isn’t free :’(
Even crazier; they plan on building a Mindy Cohn Museum

If Mrs. Garrett married GA...
he’d be Garrett Garrett.
No, wait…
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Don't forget to ask the Soth where to eat in Phoenix!!!
