This isn't news worthy...
But what if we’ve all been wrong about who the Angels 2nd Baseman is? What if Scioscia intends to play Wood at Third and Izturis at Second, giving Kendrick bench time?
RIP Nick Adenhart 4/9/09
I blog about the Angels at The Diamond Aces
not likely
Wood doesnt have any Howard’s commercials

If Scioscia didn't intend on using Wood...
then Reagins needed to trade him. I like Izzy a lot, so I’m actually not sure where I stand on all this, but you don’t let a prospect like Wood rot on the vine to ignore him. If they held onto him they should play him for a year to see what the possibilities are.
To let him sit on the bench now would be the worst possible outcome because you hoarded him, didn’t trade him when it was a possibility and he was a commodity. Then, you choose to not give him a legit chance to succeed? At least if he played and stunk, you’d know that! If he starts 2010 as a back-up the Halos STILL don’t know if he is any good!!!
RIP Nick...

There are 2100 plate appearances to divvy up from 3 positions
You could give 525 to each of ‘em, and that doesn’t count DH appearances or Wood playing 1B. Also, people get injured sometimes. It’ll all be good.
It's at least partly in Wood's hands
I’ve been frustrated by this as well. It couldn’t be any more obvious that Scioscia has no love for Wood. Why? Wood’s propensity to strike out? Something else? Thoughts? Suggestions? Is it that Scioscia has a man-crush for slap hitting middle infielders?
That said, if Wood has a hot spring and hits early in the year, the whole discussion is done, Scioscia will start him. So, if Wood rakes the debate is over. He makes Scioscia’s job easy and he calms all our fears.
If you recall when Ripken came up almost twenty years ago. He started out ice cold and didn’t start hitting until three months into the season. A few years ago, Pedroia for the Red Sox also started out ice cold when he was a rookie, but was given the chance to turn it around. There is no way Scioscia is that patient with Wood.
I wonder if Wood does have a so-so start, whether the Angels might trade him at the trade deadline, rather than lose him, because he’s out of options. Maybe that is thinking a little bit too far ahead.
Here’s hoping he succeeds!

I thinking Scioscia is starting to appreciate Wood more.
Recently he’s made comments about how great his defense is, and that it could keep him in the linup through batting slumps.
If you notice when Wood is quoted
as infrequently as it is….it seems he refers to Sosh as “him” or “Scioscia” – never as Mike or the Skip or anything more usual. I think there exists some animosity in the relationship both ways

Let's all calm down a second
Wood is out of options and Figgy is gone. Brandon will be on the roster all year, short of an injury. Does that guarantee 500 ab’s? Who knows? If he really is stinking up the place, why WOULDN’T Scioscia give more time to Maicer? He isn’t just some “slap hitting middle infielder”. Except for power, Mice Tits has a complete set of skills that contribute to wins. If Brandon has an OBP hovering around .300, it really doesn’t matter how many home runs he hits. Last time I checked, the division will not be a cake walk this season, so it would behoove the Skipper to put out his best possible line up.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to see what Wood can do with extended exposure to big league pitching, but let’s not confuse him for the second coming of Ripken, Schmidt, or even Evan Longoria. If he really “deserved” to have the job handed to him, he would have forced his way into the line up by now. The only thing Sosh has against him is that he really hasn’t proven himself to be anything special yet (he didn’t exactly own AAA in his THIRD go around). Besides, as Mr. Welch so simply pointed out above, between normal rest and injuries, there will be plenty of playing time to go around. Depth is our hallmark, and this season will be no different.
Izturis is who we thought he was.
Wake up, Izturis is nothing more than a slap hitting middle infielder, but don’t take offense, because that is nothing to be ashamed of.
Compare him to all of the 3rd basemen in the majors, he would be in the bottom half of 3rd basemen
Compare him to the other 3rd basemen in the division, and I would only take him over Kouzmanoff.
Don’t get me wrong, for a slap hitting middle infielder, he’s pretty solid and he’s worth having around, especially if Howie forgets how to hit again. I’ll say it again, if Izturis is our everyday starting 3rd baseman at season’s end, then this will be a long season.
That’s why its so important Wood succeeds.
