Benedict on the Run

So look at this pic and explain again the argument that he is not a traitor because all I see here is Josh Beckett and Jon Lester sammiching a Benedict "John Lackey" Arnold...

Hands down

That is the most nauseating photo ever. They’re like some sort of 3 headed hydra sent to piss me the hell off.

Sorry Seattle, 2010 still isn't your year.

So if he declines in ability and gets injured a lot the way we all expect him to do,

doesn’t he hurt the Red Sox more then he’ll hurt us? How does that make him a “Benedict Arnold”?

Captain, there are doubt's...

by Match Day 5 on Feb 27, 2010 5:11 AM PST reply actions

He would be a broke down, mouth breathing, DL sitting Benedict Arnold.

What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.

by clover_black on Feb 27, 2010 1:06 PM PST up reply actions

He didn't join the Red Sox over the Angels to spare us his injuries...

He left the team that gave him a WS ring to get $$$. That’s why he’s Benedict Arnold.

Sorry Seattle, 2010 still isn't your year.

Maybe I don't

It’s not a ’face of the franchise" type of thing is it? Cause I popped that cherry when Wally left 20 years ago.

Captain, there are doubt's...

Red Sox

He’s in Boston now. Let’s stop worrying about what he’s doing for THEM and focus on players that are our Angels currently.

He’s still an ugly mother f’er, though.

And I remember a time

That I saw with my own two eyes, where Anniekin hopped the dugout fence with the aim of bashing Becky in the skull. Those were the good ’ol days.

He's a traitor, but...

a very rich one at that. He’ll be on the DL before you know it. Karma’s a bitch.

Just to be clear

My comments relating to John Lackey don’t really have much to do with the whole “traitor” thing, I just strongly dislike anyone or anything in a Boston Red Sox uniform.

As do I.

I will always remember Game 7 though.

Play Wood already. Willits sucks.

by hauldog on Feb 28, 2010 5:30 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I don't see the traitor thing either...

He just does what every single working individual does… Try and find the best opportunity and financial compensation, whether you pick up the trash or make millions.

Most everyone outside of LA would say he has a better chance for a ring with the BoSox now AND makes more $$$.

But like Nate said, my hate isn’t that he left the Angels as most every ‘superstar’ lately hasn’t stayed on the team when they had the chance…

…but rather that he plays for the Sox, and any player on that team can suck my moaky, vinegar stained nuts.

The flip side is, what if Papelbon or Beckett doesn’t resign with the Sox and becomes an Angel? No matter what you say now, if it were to ever happen, I don’t think people would mind that they are ‘traitors’ or however you want to look at it.

I sure wish Halladay had betrayed and come to LA…

Forgot to add...

…as I got click happy. But a good example for me was Rodman.

You LOVED to root against him and make fun of him when he played for Chicago, but when he became a Laker, albeit not for that long of a period… he was a fan favorite.

I read some article once that he ranked like 3rd all-time for most jerseys sold over a certain period of time (i.e. a month or two or whatever).

When you play for my team, I’ll support you as much as I can. When you leave, you are dead to me :)

Note: Only players this might be near impossible are icons of a team – like what if Derek Jeter became an Angel a couple years ago? Or Bill Laimbeer, etc.

by RedFog on Feb 27, 2010 8:56 PM PST up reply actions

if Bill Laimbeer becomes an Angel

I would be interested to see who he beats out on the roster.

by Rev Halofan on Feb 28, 2010 12:00 AM PST up reply actions

Haha

You know what I meant… I was mostly trying to think of some players who either are extremely polarizing or ones you really could never imagine seeing them in any other uniform and then would be thought of as traitors.

I guess people think of Lackey as one because he was pretty much the last one (besides Shields?) left from the 2002 championship, was an Angel all his career, AND went to the hated Sox.

And to answer your questions… probably Q.

by RedFog on Feb 28, 2010 1:24 AM PST up reply actions

This photo is kinda' like spying on an ex-girlfriend (or so I've heard).

It’s time to just let her go. Granted it’s a little tougher when you don’t have a new one to help you get over her. But, maybe next offseason we’ll “steal” someone elses.

OK, I'm finally over losing Tex. Thanks Kendry.

yeah......this.

but Im sure we’re all guilty of it……both. HAHA.

Mmmmmmmmmeh

As someone mentioned above, I’m much more interested in the Angels’ current roster. Let the Lack Attack fade out in Boston while the Halos develop their young pitching talent.

by moosemastr on Feb 27, 2010 11:48 PM PST reply actions

But I'm curious...

…if Jeter a few years back (i.e. still very productive and would have a few years left in the tank) became an Angel somehow, how would you feel about it?

Maybe it’s easier to say you’d hate him because he bleeds Yankee blood and because you know it will never happen, but would you accept him or treat him as a traitor?

If he could help the club (or any player) be more successful, mentor younger players, etc. I’d be all for it.

by RedFog on Feb 28, 2010 1:27 AM PST reply actions

I can only think of a handful of guys in all of sports...

…that one could justifiably call a traitor if they left their current teams.

Iconic figured who essentially are the face (or big part of it) for their franchise, made their entire career there, etc.

For example, now that Kobe has been with the Lakers this long and won all his bling there, etc. if he ever goes anywhere else, he will truely be defined as a traitor. I think even non-LA fans can’t really see Kobe putting on another jersey.

Jeter is another. Even when A-Rod came over, Jeter was still the face of the franchise and Mr. Yankee. Can’t ever see him leaving.

In the NFL… Hmmm… Can’t ever see Peyton Manning in another jersey. I would have said LT but he didn’t decide to leave and was quite emotional about it as well. RBs are unique breed though because unlike QBs that are usually the face of the franchise as well, they don’t finish their careers as elegantly unfortunately.
