Joe Saunders: The Jeff Biggs Interview
Just back from a winter vacation in Costa Rica and a pre-arbitration deal for one year (and not even sure whether his agent was jockeying for a longer-term deal), Angels pitcher Joe Saunders talked to Jeff Biggs on The Drive on AM-830 this afternoon. Saunders did not even tell his WIFE he was injured last August, let alone his coaches or teammates. Joe shows off his college education with an articulate analysis of how strong the AL West has become and speaks with certainty that John Lackey is going to get "ragged on and dogged when he comes to town."
Joe Saunders Part 1
Joe Saunders Part 2
Thanks to Jeff Biggs and Jason Brennan at KLAA for these audio clips and to Jeané Blunt for technical assistance.

I think Saunders doesn't get near enough credit.
This guy has been great every year he’s been around.

OT.
looking at the history of KLAA (or wikipedia) it said that Glenn Beck use to host a show on this very station. Can anyone verify this?
They want power. We want respect...
Don't know about Beck, but Michael Savage was syndicated on KLAA.

Freakin Joe!
Love that guy. So mellow. Humble. Of course he’s not going to flat out say he’s an ace, but you better believe he’s going to try to earn it, and make US say it.
No matter what happens from here on, it has been a great season.
angels
reagen did a great job-kept the payroll at 100 mill when everyone is broke—all of his changes were good—Lackey will flop—way too much money—I love Vlady but he needed Texas-his numbers will be much better there-we will miss Fggy more than we think—remember he can play—2b—ss—3b and the OF-along with his great offense-Wood will be great and for money sake we had to-the only thing and only maybe would have been to put together some big names to get Haladay and I just dont think it would have worked It would have taken Weaver-Wood and more prospects-something like that-and then the payroll would have been 120mill or there abouts-So great job for the Angel GM

Uhh... Er...
“…and then the payroll would have been 120mill or there abouts-So great job for the Angel GM”
Payroll is at about $120M.
The front office spent money this off season. Opening day payroll is gonna be just a smidge under the $122M the Red Sox spent last year. Highest ever for an Angels org. You can argue about how they spent but it is difficult to make the case that they were frugal.

At least he found his caps lock button...
the dude still didn’t find a picture of himself with clothes on, though.
I love this team.

Angels
WE have a great shot to start the season—all 5 starters will win 15 games-all 9 hitters will be gain close to 300 avg and at least 6 could have 20 hr an 80 rbi and the bullpen is very much better- A very very good team-now lets get to the World Sieries

Wood to hit .300?
all 9 hitters will be gain close to 300 avg
Guess you’re planning on Izturis and Napoli starting and not Wood and Mathis.
Brandon Wood will make me very happy if he hits 270. And I won’t even mention Jeff “Mendoza” Mathis.

You know who else wasn't a prototypical # 1 starter?
Greg Maddux. Just sayin….

Can we just appreciate Joe Saunders for what he is and not make stupid comparisons to one of the best pitchers of all time?
Number of seasons with a WHIP under 1.35:
Maddux = 21 (or better put, every year since 1988)
Saunders = 1
Did I make a comparison?
Re-read my comment, HOR.

We need to find a way for Joe Saunders to hit a homerun off of John Lackey
But I guess Morales or Hunter will have to do for now.

I'm not a "Bigsy" guy
but he did a pretty good job here with Joe.
Biggsy gave a shout-out to HH today, for hosting the audio.
