OT: Ms Halofan OC Art Show Saturday
Hey so my girlfriend is having a solo show of her art and if you want to go to a cool party in the OC it is Saturday night from 7-10 PM at The Box Gallery, 765 Saint Clair in Costa Mesa 92626. The artwork is amazing and worth the trip. It is also quite expensive, so bring your checkbook or your mom. No admission cost, no dress code, and sorry, no beer.

Beer?!?
What type of galleries and art shows have you been to that serve beer?!?
I'm just a simple caveman from the I.E.
And I always look for beer at galleries and art shows. And funerals, Christenings, Bar Mitzvahs, sewing circles, dance recitals, and during my youngest son’s parent teacher conferences. I guess i’m a neanderthal patron of the arts.

PTA meetings at Hooters?
Where do I sign up? See Rev, us I.E. folk are just as civilized as our OC/LA brethren, and just as interested in the arts and education!
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
Nah, you're just a typical guy...
…as am I. Used to date an artist so I got dragged to many an art show or gallery and I don’t quite get why wine is viewed as culturally superior to other alcoholic beverages.
So one night she had her exhibit in a small gallery in Santa Monica. I told her no effing wine, I’m bringing a variety of hard to find trappist ales and Belgian ales (my specialty).
She was pissed for a while as most of the praise that night was for the great change in serving good ale vs. comments on her art ;)
RedFog, I also once dated an artist.
Of course she worked as a make-up artist at the Clinique counter at Bullocks at the Westfield mall in Covina, back in the early 90’s. ;)
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
I hate you...
She probably had hotter friends and you didn’t need to go to make-up shows. On the downside, there probably wasn’t hawt make-up sex after having the usual “WTF is art anyway?!?” arguement.
Forgot to ask...
…but I know she wanted to playfully test some product on you. Don’t lie. What shade of lipstick was your favorite? You know she loved it if you let her do it too.
Come clean…
Never attended any make-up shows.
And she did have some very hot friends. And if I had to pick a favorite lipstick shade it would probably be “Vivid Champagne.” ;)

The British School, Kathmandu, Nepal
When my eldest sons, Rick and Robert, attended The British School in Kathmandu, Nepal from 1998 to 2001 there was always beer available the evening of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the school auditorium. Refreshments were for sale on a table at the back of the room. I would usually consume two large bottles of Tuborg or Carlsberg beer. Any foreign beer that had a crown on the label could be brewed in Nepal (the world’s only Hindu monarchy). I would be sipping beer in the audience as a letter of greetings from the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) would be read to start the proceedings. Not to worry. I never drove in Nepal. I would always take a taxi home afterwards. No, I never gotten drunk on two beers in my life.
I have been to art galleries in Europe (the Louvre in Paris, Del Prado in Madrid) where beer was available for purchase. I would walk through the enter gallery first. Then I would visit the cafeteria and drink three beers. Then I would go back into the gallery to see view the paintings I like the best again from a slightly intoxicated perspective.
Movie theatres that I went to in Europe (Copenhagen and Berlin) also sold beer at the refreshment stand. Instead of popcorn and a Coke I would take two beers to my theatre seat.
That's walking distance from my home. Hmmmmmnnnnn......
Rest in peace, Rory. When I think of some of the greatest moments in my Angels fandom, I hear your voice describing them. Thanks for everything you gave us.
Will there be coloring books?

Your art looks very beautiful Ms Halofan!
I checked it out on line. Wow, the patience and dedication it takes to do all that.

The true question is why would she be an art critic's girlfriend?
The art critic is the high society version of a jock sniffer. No talent, but lives to get close to the talent of others. Oh wait, he manages this site.
Never mind — reboot
Art critics serve as the conduit through which great expressions of artistic endeavor can be understood by the untutored masses. The closer either side gets to the conduit, the more that understanding and clarity will result. That must be why.
Nah…who am I kidding, it’s the sex
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I just hope it doesn't go bad
I can see the fallout if you guys split up. Your review of her art would be epic.
“I find your use of colors insulting to the audience’s intelligence and your over use of phalluses in your art an obvious over compensation for your daddy issues that were on full display in our relationship. Oh, and I lied when I said that abstract self portrait didn’t make you look fat.”

Rev Halofan is an art critic?
Damn is there anything he isn’t involved in? (that is legal of course). And Ms Halofan has shown at the Correia Gallery? I know Patty and knew Schauer
I was at the wake at Patties gallery
I live in Orange, I built the gallery along with the whole first phase of Bergamot. If your initials are M.G. then I have met you a couple of times and you are involved in the best F-ing Art zine around. I would have come to the Costa Mesa show but I have an almost 8 week old son who dictates alot of what I do these days, and yes he already has a complete Angels set up. And if you are who I think you are, Mr Blank hates me with all his pacemaker laden heart, and Robert Berman once uttered the quote of " (insert my name), is not my friend" just because I wouldn’t build him a FREE mezzanine storage space in his gallery.
Yep, I thought I recognized you from the you tube post
This just means I think you should do at least a “Month in Review” segment via you tube every month. Never knew you were an Angels fan, back when I first was introduced to you (by Christine from the Frumkin Gallery), I used to watch Erstad play for the Storm in Lake Elsinore (or as we like to say, Lake Smell Some More). I ran into Erstad at that time at least a dozen times at the local bank branch and he was a very nice guy and knew all the people working there and would chat with them about not only baseball, but seemed to know about some of the tellers family. Just a really nice guy who even gave me a “hey, hows it goin” a few times. Back then, the Storm, being an Angels Farm team was a great deal at $7.00 to $10.00 to get in, great food, good baseball, and “Blind Pig” ale. Hope things work out perfect for you and your girl, her art is very impressive from the website i’ve seen, I will stop by and see it in person since my office is in Santa Ana.
Take it easy on Lake Elsinore!
I own a Lake Elsinore, California Sch Fing Auth Rev tax-free bond that pays 4.75% rated AA3/AAA that is due 10/1/2025. The price two days ago for this bond was 102.92800. Money for my Angel tickets has to come from somewheres!
"They let me write obits and I haven't died yet." Joe Falls
That was one of Joe Falls favorite sayings when he was alive. Other Fallsian sayings include his “Oh How I Hate Ohio State” bumper sticker and “Be Alert: the World Needs More Lerts.” Falls wrote for the Detroit Free Press and covered the Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings. Late is his career Joe Falls added up the number of times he had been to Baltimore (Al Kaline’s home town) and came up with a total of 83. I have only been to Baltimore twice. I have read a lot obits and I haven’t died yet. Other famous Lords of Balmer include Babe Ruth and Leon Uris.
Ok.. I don't "do" art
and to be honest, except when I was a VERY young kid, I’ve never gotten into it.. but I LIKE that piece that’s shown on the site. I never knew what Leigh did, except that she was an artist.. and this is pretty cool. I think I’ll come down.. no checkbook, cause I can BET it’s out of my price range, but I can look and appreciate, right??
right on.
A small piece would set you back at least what a weekend in vegas on a budget would cost. But looking is free!
But one thing … I thought you were still a very young kid, pattimelt…
THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING
show was great – biggest stress was my folks and hers had never met prior to tonihgt’s pre-show dinner so the art opening reception was a piece of cake.
