Going to his first game?
I need the opinion of this great community of very smart sport fans. I had a baby son in October, now 4 months. Baseball starts in one month. I live in the bay area and see the angels at Oakland. Should i take him to his first game in April or wait until the Angels have clinched the division in September?
I wish i could take him to Anahiem for his first but someday we will walk through the hats to our seats in the the great cathedral of baseball know as Angels Stadium.
All advise is welcomed.

Taught the daughter to hate the Yankees and Red Soxs will have the son do the same
FATHER OF A WONDERFUL SON VLADIMIR
Sorry not name after Guerrero...but would be cool
Just be on time the first time
If it is an away game for the Angels and you are there for the first pitch you will always know for certain, just by looking up the box score, who the first batter he ever saw live was. Just passing that down to your son is a touchstone he can carry forward, and what kid doesn’t need certainty these days.
Another Bay Area Halo Fan
you can’t go wrong, just bring him to the park.
hope to see you at game this yr, unfortunately halos won’t be in town for a few months.

Wait...
…infants are a delicacy to many Oakland fans. When we clinch, you’ll be safer in the crowd of 4,000.
My daughter was just under two months old when we took her to her first game
We watched the Angels beat the Red Sox 5-0 in game one of the 2009 ALDS. Very memorable.
my daughter was 2 months too
Game 1 of the 2001 World Series – we even made it on local TV. And that was my first WS game too
and i’m bitter I had to wait >40 years to see a WS game. and she saw two WS games including the classic ’01 Game 7 by the time she was two months old.
Take him on a day when the weather is warm but not to hot.
Baseball is a beautiful sport, but infants a delicate. Congadulations on yours…
"Pie Iesu domine, dona eis requiem".
I agree with this
In all seriousness, it’s probably too damn cold for an April night game in Oakland. I’d wait until September.
Tough decision dude.
I’d just eat the cyanide pill and call it a day.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
Ok, I have to know...
Is your son’s name really Vlad? Because your screen name makes it sound that way. If it is, that is truly hardcore!
Peanuts...Get your Overpriced Peanuts!
Yes...
…He is named Vladimir Philip Margetich. Sorry but he is not named after the great Angels hitter Guerrero. I named him after my grandfather, a true American WWII hero. We always joke that Guerrero was named after my Croatian grandfather. My Great-great-grandfather sailed the Caribbean. How else would a Dominican get a name like that?

My son Robby's birthday is October 22nd
We celebrate Robby’s birthday on a World Series off day just before or after Robby’s birthday. In 2002 Robby’s party was on hold until the Angels jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the 4th inning of Game 3 in San Francisco. Since then Robby’s birthday party is on either October 21st, 22nd, or 23rd depending upon the World Series off day. Be flexible. You are only born once. All the subsequent birthday parties are just anniversaries. A couple times we even bought two cakes: one for Robby’s birthday and one for the party. Let them eat cake! I am watching the World Series!
By all means get Vlad to the ballpark as soon as you can. For under age two admission is free. If Vlad is with you you won’t need a babysitter! Don’t take Vlad to a game on cold, rainy, or windy night. You want to keep him warm. For summertime day games find seats in the shade.
I was worried...
…that he would come during the World Series or during a game but it worked out the he was born at 2:23pm and the game started at 4. The great thing is that for one of his birthdays i can take him to an Angels World Series win in the future.

First, congratulations on your new boy!
Take him in April — we need the good karma. I made the mistake of taking my three month old to a Friday night game a couple years ago; the fireworks noise and concussion from Big Bang Friday had me running with him into the restroom, his ears cupped with my hands.
Thank you, Omar Minaya! Thank you, Mets (Vaughn, GMJ) AGAIN!
Congratulations and all the best to you...
I guess I have a different take on this, but I want to make it clear that I mean no disrespect whatsoever. This isn’t really about his first game, it’s about your first game with him. The game will mean more to the both of you if he is actually able to remember it. Sure, you can say So and So was the first batter he ever saw, but was he really? The kid will be more fascinated by the lady’s hair in front of you or your shirt pattern.
Furthermore, I just feel that ball games aren’t for infants. Every time I see one at a game, or go to one with somebody who has brought theirs, it just makes me nervous. Is that weird? I can only envision line drives off of baby craniums. It’s like, do you really want to take the chance of arriving with a normal functioning child, to leaving with one destined to tend the rabbits?

I've taken that chance several hundred times ...
should I count my blessings and never attend a game again?
I love this team.

Congrats buddy.
Take him during April. He seems to be a good luck charm. Also, since you live in the Bay Area, it might be pretty awesome to take your son on a trip down south to see a home game once he’s old enough to remember it. It could really be an amazing father and son experience to take a weekend roadtrip or something to the Big A. Once again, congratulations man.
Sorry Seattle, 2010 still isn't your year.
My daughter's first game
was in spring, 2005 at Safeco. Angels won 5-2, with John Lackey (grrrr) getting the win, and Scot Shields getting the save (awesome!). Steve Finley hit a home run, and yes, I was there…I can verify that this is true!

We finally made it to a game in Anaheim in summer 2006, but the Angels lost to the Royals.
Congrats on your bouncing baby boy; get him to a game ASAP. Oakland, SF, minor leagues, whatever.
1 line siggy line because I was asked nicely. Go Angels! helpfindscottajob@gmail.com
Ive taken my kids to games for since they were born.
We took my daughter starting at the end of 2006 (she was born in early september 2006) and my son was going when he was a month old (Born early June 2008). We’d pick day games and sit in the shade. Now they are a little older and LOVE going to baseball games. My daughter asked me yesterday when we could go to an angels game and my son drags his angels hat everywhere.

I took my daughter to a game when she was about the same age as your son
It just so happened to be GA’s 10 RBI night on on Aug. 21 2007 versus the Yankees. She’s now nearly three and been to over 25 games. And now we’re packing for Spring Traning!

Baby's first ballgame
I have taken my kids to opening day always. The youngest was less than 4 mos. old for her first game. She still thinks the season tickets are for her. It is never too early. Beachbum
I always took
My little girl to as many baseball games as I could. Her first game she was probably 8 months, but that’s because she was born in the middle of the season, Aug. 19th, 2004.

I blog about the Angels at The Diamond Aces
I took my then (6 month old daughter) to the June 15 Giants game at AT&T this last year
she did pretty well till about the 4th inning……….then we spent the rest of game walking around the stadium watching the game on the various TV’s and stopping to look out in the field occasionally……….So I would advise you to take a stroller……….where ever you go. Just in case.
And congrats!

I took my son to his first game during the Wally World hysteria
in April 1986. 24 years later he is as fanatical as they come.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Gotta be fetal for your first game to be a true fanatic.

Oh yeah...
like my ex-wife would go to a baseball game (then anyway). Took him to his first BYU football game at three weeks. I caught a lot of crap over that (he’s a BYU fanatic as well).

congrats!
i have no intention of trekking my kid up to see the angels play in minnesota or chicago until he’s cut his teeth on local ball. college summer league next year when he’s 3, maybe some cedar rapids games after that, before taking him to a real major league game.
R.I.P. Nick Adenhart - Always an Angel
Congrats!!
I took my wife to a Angels/Mariners game at Safeco on her due date last year August 31, 2009 where the Angels pounded the M’s 10-0!! I was really hoping he would make an entance there at the game but not such luck. Anyways, I was sitting there when Vladdy steps to the plate in the 1st. I proceed to tell my wife, if Vlad hits a homerun we have to name our son Vladimir. Well, Vlad didn’t hit a homerun until his second trip to the plate and I thought to myself dam, just missed it by one plate appearance. When Vlad stepped to the plate for the fourth time, I again tell my wife if he hits a homerun we have to name our son Vladimir. She says okay thinking there is no way Vlad hits another this game. It just so happened that there was a way, cause sure enough Vladdy belted his second of the night. My wife wouldn’t follow through with her promise and on 9/9/09 my son Greyson was born (I wore the number 9 for 9 years when I played ball so it made perfect sense)!! Anyways, very happy to hear that somebody was able to name their son Vladimir (my wife did agree to name our next dog, a Great Dane, Vladimir)!!

If i say that our son is named after Big Vlad....
… she slaps me. My son was born on 2’s. 10/22/2009 at 2:23 in room 422. My wife’s favorite player #2 Erick Aybar. Strange? When he plays baseball he will ware the number 2.

My daughter was 3 months for her first game. It was Angels VS Yankees at Angels. GA’S 13 RBI night!!! She was good. Expect a lot of sleeping through the game though! :) Take him in April!! Just make sure to bring lots of sun screen and sit in the shade, at least until he is bigger!! My daughter is now 3 and has been to 30 MLB games, we live in Bakersfield.
Peace Love & Angels Baseball
GA had a 13 RBI night?
"Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His Saints." - Psalm 116:15 Rest In Peace, Nick.
heheh
The halos scored 13, but GA only had 10 RBI’s. If he wasn’t so doggone “lazy” he would have gotten ALL THE RBI’s. I thank GA, however, for providing the free Hooters chicken wings and for making my obnoxious Yankee friend STFU for the entire evening. Good times.
I love this team.

My daughter's First Game
I live on the east coast and am an Angels fan (I grew up in HB area). My daughter is now 2 but I took her to her first ball game when she was 6 months old. Her first game was an interleague game in Philadelphia at night, so it was cooler. It was really fun but what you have to keep in mind is the crowd gets loud, especially early, so they could startle and what panicked me was having her cry, which she didn’t do too much of. We had a great time like I said until we took a walk around the stadium and the Phili fans started yelling at me (Halo’s were up 8-0) and 1 guy in particular wanted to fight me with my wife and baby with me.
Later that summer we went to the old Yankee stadium. Took a stroll around the monuments for the last time in the park. She won’t know anything about that but it was still cool. We did get souvenirs from both parks and kept the tickets. Other than that, have fun. BTW, yes the halo’s again beat the yankees!!! I should go to every game with her!
