Jeff Mathis: Spring Training Interview
Listen here to Jeff Mathis interviewed this afternoon by Jeff Biggs on THE DRIVE on AM-830, the radio home of your Angels. LINK: Jeff Mathis on AM 830
At one point in the interview it seems Jeff is quoting Journey's "Separate Ways" about the inevitability of one day no longer sharing catching duties with Mike Napoli... it is a little sad. Jeff let me say... if Naps ever hurts you, true love won't desert you.

Yea, but I tell ya
if he would just hit like he hit in the playoffs a little more often
we’d have a winner
but I guess that was just a one-hit-wonder kinda thing, eh?
Call me old fashion
but I have a weakness for catchers who know how to stop a ball. Besides, does anyone else remember when Mathis had that foul ball bounce up and hit him right in the crotch? What a stud.
Sorry Seattle, 2010 still isn't your year.

Yea, both he and Nap
have a horrific propensity to throw the ball away too—especially Nap down the 3rd base line. But I DO love the way they man-up and block the plate.
BTW, how is Conger throwing runners out? Did Rghan mention that one?
Mathis' pick off rate is still better than Naps
and they’re both atrocious.

hopefully the two will last longer than my marriage
and end the same way, just after a world championship (i was kicked out of the house Nov 1, 2002….for going over to Anaheim too much to see ALCS Games 3-5 and WS Games 1 & 7).
Yeah, Napothis, give us 5 more years of backstop bliss, crowned by a World Series trophy.
You deserve a trophy of some sort too, my man
You wouldn’t let a marriage stand between you and Halo glory!
Actually, as I recall, I almost had a divorce then too
My wife went psycho at that time and I was trying to celebrate one of the greatest moments of my life (is that sad? I don’t know…) . She pissed me off so much I couldn’t take it any more.
Fortunately, I’ve converted her and the kids (that was easier) into staunch Halo fanatics.
But at the time, it was literally almost the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Generally, most decent wives/significant others will put up with/support our obsession with the Halos—as long as we don’t have a bunch of drunk friends around watching it with us!
That was one of the better interviews ever for Jeff Mathis
props to Biggsy for coaxing more than one or two word replies out of the #2 catcher. Get after it and get it done Jeff.

They sort of poked fun at his...
…robotic answers (later in the show) and that he really doesn’t give much insight.
I didn’t think it was that bad. Bigsy asked pretty rhetorical questions too so what can poor Mathis say?
“Yeah, I hate Naps despite what we’ve been saying – the job should be ALL MINE!” But yeah, I know he is no Hunter or Figgy when it comes to interviews, but I dig him.
