“I uhhh, well uhhhh I’d like to thank Scioscia first and foremost. Without him, I’d have retired long ago but he kept forcing contracts on me and uhhh, well he kept me playing. My wife was pretty upset all those years. So were 95% of the bloggers.

Thank you for your support. Scioscia."

Morales will be on the Red Sox by then (Boras client). Plus Howie will be traded for a few draft picks as, based on the lineup, we’ll need em.

by leemoulton on Mar 4, 2010 10:49 PM PST reply actions

unfortunately

this is the MLB, and unless things change in the next 5 years, you can’t trade for draft picks..

Sooo ready for the season to start! Go Angels!

Magic Eightball says no such thing!

Magic Eightball has following responses on its internal floating icosahedron:
• Signs Point to Yes
• Yes
• Reply hazy, try again.
• Without a doubt.
• My sources say no.
• As I see it, yes.
• You may rely on it.
• Concentrate and ask again.
• Outlook not so good.
• It is decidedly so.
• Better not tell you now.
• Very doubtful.
• Yes – definitely.
• It is certain.
• Cannot predict now.
• Most likely.
• Ask again later.
• My reply is no.
• Outlook good.
• Don’t count on it.

Check back in five years

Weaver, Santana, Kendrick, Morales and Napoli will all be gone.

I think it's possible that 1-3 of them will still be around

Possible, just possible.

Why are you saying that?

Yeah, I know Weaver and Morales are with Boras so if history says anything, bye bye.

Naps likely just because Sosh loves Mathis more and Naps will probably be used for a trade before the deadline this season or next…especially with Conger in tow.

But why do you think Santana and Howie will be gone?

by RedFog on Mar 5, 2010 11:11 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah!

We definitely won’t be signing any free agents and our whole entire team will be home grown! It will be the first team in umpteen years to do it!

the Angels will always go after the free agents-and they will stay in the hunt and maybe even win a world sieries-probably all five division titles-they have a good owner and Gm and a great manager-again they have put together great team for 2010

Weaver will still be here—Morales might not (his agent is scott) Adrian? maybe would be nice-Napoli yes-Aybar Yes-Wood Yes-Jepson maybe-Kendrick should be but has to prove he can be healthy-the rest are all unproven rookies and each year will tell-I would have kept Vladdy-great hitter and great teamate
I like the rookies -peter-trout and conger but each year has a different need-the Angels did very well this year with Joel-even Matsui-and the reliever Rodney -very well! So we will just see

What are you dudes complaining about

our 2014 lineup is completely home grown, the STARTING LINEUP hits 178 home runs, no one hits fewer than 30 doubles, we’re gonna lead the league with like a .365 on base percentage, and not one person is going to underperform.

THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!

Youth and talent is the true gift Angels management has given us.

I love your projected lineup for 5 years from now… however I would like to make a few changes… mostly to pitching.

5 years from now I would love to see Reckling sure… but at 26 and 28 years old, there is no reason to think Saunders and Kazmir wont be in their prime and producing at a super high level. Look around the league… some of the biggest pitching stars in baseball in their early to mid 30s (Halladay, Lee, Carpenter) Id like to see them still in the Angels rotation defending titles.

In the bullpen I think Bulger for sure and possibly Palmer may well be entrenched in key roles along with Jepsen. Id honestly love to see Arredondo back in an Angel uniform by then if he bounces back from his injury issues. Bullpen is also a place to inexpensively make a difference through free agency… so expect a marquee name or two in that pen.

Finally in the outfield…. Torii Hunter may still have a whole lot left in his tank 5 years from now. Dont dismiss the possibility of him still lighting up the Angels outfield with his smile, glove and electric bat.

Finally Bobby Abreu to join the Angels coaching staff… perhaps as a roving instructor working with players at all levels of the Angels system if not as the hitting instructor at the major league level.

by camuzikman on Mar 6, 2010 6:34 PM PST reply actions

Angels

Too bad Weaver and Morales are with Boras-Id really like to see them still with us then and Hunter just maybe also-I like the idea a of having Abreu in the organization also-very well done-How many Angels that are here now have been here for 5 years?

by spc7 on Mar 6, 2010 7:14 PM PST up reply actions

I think you under estimate.....

Our minor leaguers and the affect age has on players. In 5 years, Saunders will be in his mid 30’s, even Lackey went downhill at age 30. I don’t think Kaz is coming back because of our pitching depth and the fact that he never wanted to come to LA, he was traded. I’m sure he’ll go wherever it is he wants to be once he reaches FA.

In 5 years, Bulger is going to be 36, I doubt he’ll still be shutting down offenses from our bullpen. Palmer may be a one year fluke and he’ll be 36 in 5 years as well.

Torii Hunter’s contract expires in 3 years, and he’s 34 right now. Do you think we’ll resign him and he’ll be playing CF for us at age 39? I doubt it.

Abreu….yeah I can see him coaching in 5 years.
