ESPN ignore again.
Now I know many people have complained about ESPN not caring about us on the west coast or anyone not in the east for that matter. Yet I hoped just hoped they would pay attention a little more just a little more when they made a studio in Los Angles of course they didn't care that it just looked like they were faking being non-bias. So after Juan Rivera hit a mammoth home run against the Blue Jays that it might show up somewhere in baseball tonight. I just deluded myself yet again. then yesterday the SportsCenter staff lied again by saying they are not bias to everyone. Come on! Showing all of a blowout win by the yankees then spend 20 sec on Ervin Santana throwing a masterpiece and then show more on Jim Wolf's throw then anything else non eastern is sickening. this is what I think that they think about us.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1wfUGhV7tw#here
ESPN is definitely the east sports players network and I hate them for that.
It sucks I like their shows but they are so biased I go on a rampage. Fox only shows certain things and lost sports science to ESPN. I don't have enough money for MLB network and I am really mad. oh well maybe if anyone is rich enough make a WSPN and sick it to them. To bad it won't happen one can dream though.

Don’t worry, once I get my book published and make mass buckz, I will work on founding WSPN…

so you can watch alex rodriguez change his socks and derek jeter talk about how he farted in between the third and forth innings. Then watch the replay as they slo-mo the cheek wiggle.
Then a 2 second clip about how ervin santana threw 2 hit ball and a cuban and a former yankee hit a pair of home runs each.

The ONLY time I watch ESPN
…is when they’re showing the Angels’ game.
Otherwise, there is simply no reason to have them on the cable. Sportcenter is infested with men and women who aren’t a fraction as clever as they think of themselves to be. The reporting is East Coast-centric. Worst of all, it simply isn’t interesting.
Instead of allowing ESPN to ruin your day, why not simply stop watching it? Even Baseball Tonight is useless (do I care what Kruk thinks? No.), and any cable franchise around should be carrying MLB Network, which has no bias of any kind, especially with Harold Reynolds on the dais (as alumnus of both the Mariners and Angels).

It seems like basic TV ratings 101 to me
Never really understood the hatred. Its the same business model everyone else uses to make money. They show games and talk about the teams that generate the highest ratings.
Don’t for one second believe that they wouldn’t turn it into an all Angel talk network if that brought in the most revenue.

Your point is valid to a degree.
Ratings would dictate to give some sort of special attention th the yank sux, but not at the detriment of every other team. A better long-term money making strategy would be to market the product so that espn profits off 30 fanbases rather than two. They are going for the quick and easy cash at the detriment to their long-term health.

They dictate the ratings
By covering Boston and New York obsessively, they get everyone to watch those teams, which raises those teams’ ratings, which in turn self justifies ESPN to blow them even more voraciously than before. It’s a vicious circle…
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.
I agree that their coverage has generated more fans over time and made the bias worse...
But the fanbase and interest was there before ESPN and they simply went for the money. There is no way they have artificially created a large fanbase and ratings by themselves.
Pretty sure baseball has always been a big deal in that area.
How many "Red Sox Nation West" shirts would you see out here if not for ESPN?
That’s definitely the chicken coming after the egg.
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.
And that has nothing to do
with all the East Coast transplants out here? Maybe I’m naive, but I really don’t think baseball fans are that trendy.
I am pretty tired of this meme, but Clutch is correct here.
I posted on this a little while ago, but even ESPN admits that the growth in Red Sox fandom is a direct result of ESPN needing programming content in their early days and having a bunch of Red Sox fans in program decision-making positions. So they promoted the Red Sox as a story, and the Red Sox fan community grew right along with ESPN. What used to be a regional interest with some national awareness has become a national interest with some international awareness. It really is that simple.
And it really does speak to the idea that ESPN, as a publicly held company (Disney, their parent, is publicly traded), has a fiduciary duty to grow their business. So they should be growing interest in other teams too, and increase their audience base, just as they did with the Red Sox.
ESPN first created the beast, and now they merely feed it.

That actually WAS the master plan back then.
Disney was going to use the Angels as a cornerstone for a regional sports network. They got outmanuevered by Rupert urdock and Fox Sports, and pulled back. Eventually they bailed out of that plan altogther and ended up selling the Halos to Arte.
Oversimplifying a great media war, but the full story is to be found within Google.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His Saints." - Psalm 116:15 Rest In Peace, Nick.
To be honest
I haven’t actually sat through Sportscenter or baseball tonight in years. If your story about Sox fans in decision making positions is true, well, shit happens. It may have helped feed the beast of “the nation” but I can’t sit here and believe ESPN is totally responsible for making them so popular (and annoying). Sox fans were obsessive morons long before ESPN ever existed.
I do read ESPN.com pretty regularly. A good amount of the content is crap, but I can’t say that there’s any obvious bias. Every team from the Reds to the Rays to the Rangers to the Angels gets a fair amount of coverage. But let’s be honest: the Yanks and Sox are consistently among the best teams in the game, so they are going to get featured quite a bit no matter where you look. It’s no different than the Lakers, Cowboys, Red Wings, etc.
Here's the deal.
Red Sox fans HAVE long been insufferable. But they have not been as numerous. They were NOT a national phenomenon prior to ESPN.
The Red Sox ARE consistently among the best teams, BUT ONLY THE PAST 10 YEARS OR SO. Prior to that, they were pretty much mediocre to better-than-average, with flashes of greatness.
The Red Sox rise in success, by ESPN’s own admission (not just random speculation or opinion on my part), has a direct correlation to the rise of ESPN.
- ESPN needed content
- ESPN personnel with decision powers over content contained Red Sox fans
- ESPN began covering the Red Sox more closely
- Red Sox interest, nationally, began to rise as ESPN gained more access to more cable packages
- consequently, Red Sox revenues began to rise due to increased fan interest
- Red Sox spending powers began to rise due to increased revenue
- Red Sox became more competitive on the field
- feedback loop firmly in place.
Again, I did not say this. ESPN did. Twice that I heard directly and publicly. I just happen to agree with it.

HA! I don't know...
Honestly, I think many of them really just didn’t get it. Of course, how could they get it living in Boston? They don’t see how their out of market fans act in Anaheim or Oakland, etc. It’s these folks that mainly piss me and the rest of baseball off and bring to mind terms like “chowdz”. I could care less about people in Boston rooting for the Boston Red Sox, that’s what they should do. Their actions on the road are a different story and I wanted to make that clear.

ESPN's baseball coverage disappoints me
But I really enjoy the rest of their coverage. Although they tend to overdo NFL coverage, ESPN is my go-to channel/network for quenching my sports thirst. Their NBA coverage is solid, and their NASCAR coverage is expanding to my tastes (they hardly talk about Dale Jr./Danica Patrick anymore and more about the actual racing!!), but I agree the baseball coverage is disappointing.
That’s why Bud created the MLB Network, arguably the greatest thing he’s done as comissioner

Of course you think their NBA coverage is solid.

East coast bias for sure...
And a lot of annoying commentators, but put it in perspective. Most all of us who complain about ESPN would be immensely upset if it suddenly ceased to exist.
MLB Network
Had pretty much the same shortened highlights that ESPN’s Baseball Tonight did. I was more disgusted by them than ESPN, as I expect it from ESPN, but not on a channel that devotes itself TO ONE FREAKING SPORT.
Watch MLB Tonight
You basically see the entire games during that show. I assume you are talking about Quick Pitch?
Just for fun ESPN's partnering has ruined AM830 programming as well.
The good old “Drive” with Biggsy 3pm afternoon show is gone now to a shorter something or other show. It sucks.

If it was an east coast team they would spend a lot more time on it. Hmmm… lets see what they would say after a shutout by the Halos? I hate ESPN for their east coast bias in general.
Not necessarily just about baseball. I remember when they were wearing party hats and eating birthday cake LIVE on sports center while doing Cavaliers highlights since it was LeBron’s birthday. It’s completely ridiculous how much LeBJ dick they blow.
Oh and for the NBA playoffs, Mike Tirico was doing the play by play for the Heat/Celtics game 1 and whenever Dwayne Wade would do something good or make a nice drive to the basketball he’d just be like “meh….good play by Wade”. But if some scrub on the Celdicks like Tony Allen would get a steal or rebound or something he’d be like “GREAT PLAY BY ALLEN. WHAT HUSTLE! HE’S JUST A GOOD OLD FASHIONED HARD WORKER WHO IS SO VALUABLE TO HIS TEAM blah blah blah”. Long story short he didn’t even make an effort to hide his Boston man-love. It was completely pathetic and unprofessional.

I don’t own a TV, so I really have no dog in this “ESPN sucks” fight, but when I did, it seemed that baseball got the shaft in terms of their coverage, more than any specific geographical area west of New York. I wouldn’t want to have to settle for “Baseball Tonight.” ♥ Jon Miller.
If I were going to break down and spend money to watch broadcast sports at home, there’s no question I’d get the MLB Network. I just don’t care about any other sport, really. Do the regional Fox Sports networks have decent coverage?
Aside: As a native Californian living in (barely upstate) New York, I’m finding the geographic hatred a little misplaced. People may not be all, “shaka, brah,” as they roll down Park Ave. on their skate, and paying to go to the beach SUCKS, but my current (dream!) job doesn’t exist back home. So chillax a little about the East Coast, dude. There are legitimate reasons that otherwise decent people live here.

But getting mad at people is fun.
the region I am talking most about though is that Baltimore / north Virgina area to Boston going through the ny city and Pennsylvania. Those fans are some of the worst. since I posted it I thought about it and I forgot to mention other things but nah no regrets freedom of speech, freedom to get others really mad at you for telling the truth,(or lies). ESPN does suck though. I have no problems with north of Boston south of northern Virgina west of Pennsylvania, or the Atlantic ocean, it has enough problems. Blue pinstripes? It never looks blue to me. hm… darkest blue Ive ever seen. I know there are some good people there just I never saw them when I went there. The year after that went to Florida people were friendlier well that part at least. the part about ESPN I hate the most [maybe] is that it like almost every sports station says it in eastern time. then last years World Series the Phillie and yankee fans said why do we have to wait for the west coast to watch it. that was actually something I agreed on I wouldn’t be happy with whoever won, and most of their fans are there on east coast so, yeah one thing I agree on do it for the best time of who’s playing not the region to say we are not biased. most days though ESPN makes me feel ignored. Matsui’s walk off wasn’t in what I thought it should be and they bought spots science from Fox. oh well I cant have it all. it doesn’t matter when we win in the end.

Jets & Giants are in Jersey
How dare they claim another whole state….
Couldn’t resist
R.I.P. King Ad-Rock #34
2 great mlb teams?
Not so sure about that stat. Am most definitely not sniffling over here. Also, there are ways to get to Maine without going through N.Y. Maine is like the anti–New York, really.
Seriously though, I don’t know why am I even replying.
they would boast the mets.
I am anti ny the lowercase wouldn’t. they seem to like that place. entertainment isn’t everything. its the only thing. ridiculed ESPN ignore again the world’s most angels all star 2010 in it post.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? Just wondering.
(For what it’s worth, I’d love to see the Mets beat up on the pinstriped men.)

East coast bias in horseracing too
Perfect example is our west coast Zenyatta who was the first filly to win the Breeders Cup Classic still not getting the same respect as Rachel Alexandra from the east.
I will... not tell you.
Too many enemies. Secret. I would be described as the person who when something happens say fight! fight! fight! fight! and throw more wood into the fire. Someone has to say these things and since I couldn’t find someone else doing it joined in on this to say my opinion Without anyone knowing who I am. I could be 45, 27, 59, 16, 12, 9, 38 and a half, 47, 62, 61, 15, 17, 22, 18, 35, 29, or infinite. I could be fake, I could be a computer, I could be an artificial intelligence. But that is for me to know and you to guess and guess and Google and Bing until you find out. I could be male, female, eunuch, hermaphrodite, or an alteration of switching between them all never knowing what I am. Knowledge is power because for those don’t know what you know is something they can’t face. I could be Benjamin Button or Marlin going backwards in age, or an alien coming to get you all, or someone who doesn’t know how old they are like Vlad. you always keep them guessing…..

I think angels all star 2010 had a reply fail.
This was in response to cath619’s comment above asking the age of angels all star 2010. It’s kind of humorous. By attempting to tell nothing, he actually tells a lot.
This is most likely a white male between the ages of 10 and 14, residing in north Orange County, and somewhat insecure about his identity.
And this line should be framed for future generations to attempt to decipher; “Knowledge is power because for those don’t know what you know is something they can’t face.”
You are right.
Or are you? I could be 10 – 14, or not. I could live above orange county, or not you can guess all you want but one thing is true besides everything else that is true; I am getting older/younger/more powerful than you can possibly imagine. Age doesn’t stay the same. I could be Mexican, Canadian, Asian, European, other type of European, African, Australian, one thing though. I know who I am and that is all that matters. Man I love making other people confused and getting angry because that my I don’t know you all to well people is what life is all about.

I think I guessed the age as too high. 8-12 years old is a more accurate range. White male, north Orange County, insecure, and imaginative…those are bull’s-eyes.
And we have entry #2 in the (unintentionally) indecipherable sentence category; “Man I love making other people confused and getting angry because that my I don’t know you all to well people is what life is all about.”
Enjoy this while it lasts. Your 15 minutes are about to expire.

I don't see how you can claim that ESPN is biased
I mean, they put the 6-7 Angels only two places below the 4-8 Red Sox in their latest rankings.
How much fairer could they possibly be?
# Halo Heaven Fantasy Champ 2008 #
Mind you, if I were a fan of the Nationals (6-6, 24th) i'd be equally pissed
Everyone’s favourite Red Sox are in 13th place.
# Halo Heaven Fantasy Champ 2008 #
For an example of bias...
yesterday’s Angel game… starts at 4-0 because of Matsui’s double( probably forgot he is an Angel now) then shows the Tigers come back but play it very “whatever -y” then end of game. If it was yankee or red sux vs. Tigers then it would be … " things started with jeter getting hit x# and do you think he will get to 3000? oh look next a roid did this and that and tex is still struggling, looks like the yankees are running away from them then the bullpen almost blows it by allowing 5 runs and 2 outs in 9th oh mariano just gave up his first hit as a closer oh cant get to 15, bummer but he gets the next guy to pop up." I am sick of it and 1 more thing “In Halos Heaven you are only as old as you act.” so technically I go from 10- ? hey we are all Angels fans here don’t hate each other or accuse us of being one age or another.
“what was that? He is trying to act mature? aw…” -some guy who would say that but not anymore because I said it, then he will because I said he won’t…

Yes
ESPN is biased—it’s biased in favor of ESPN and the teams around the ESPN center in Conn. It’s a local New England station with a national following, no different from WGN (except WGN at least doesn’t try to hide its Chicago-bias).
It's like there's a record of incomprehensible bullshit playing in your head
and you drop the needle down and fire off whatever it starts playing. Punctuate your posts.

I think folks stopped caring about what you think some time back
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason

ESPN needs competition from a Western-based sports network
The time difference is a problem. A West Coast-based network is needed to serve West Coast fans. 22 out of the 30 MLB teams play at a more convenient time for most baseball fans. Eastern-based media caters to the majority.
ESPN ignores baseball in comparison to football and basketball, and think the Yankees and Red Sox are the only teams worthy of attention.
I think putting all West and Mountain MLB teams in the same division or league would attract more local attention and pressure the media to cater more to fans in the West.
The product is too diluted out West with 11 out of the 14 AL teams in either the Central or Eastern Time Zones. Listening to the Angels-Yankees games last weekend at home almost seemed like the Yankees were cheered as much as the home team. I think something drastic like realignment has to be done to fix this problem.

Won't happen
Not enough viewers. 2/3 of the US population is east of the Mississippi. There aren’t enough eyeballs on the west side of the river to make an exclusive enterprise profitable.
The more thoughtful solution is to watch MLB Network at the hours the West Coast teams are playing. Trust me, they cover the Angels.
More to the point, here is your answer: Stop watching ESPN. Just stop it. There is no reason to ever turn to that channel. You have as much hope of learning about the Angels on ESPN as you do on NESN—perhaps even less.

I have taken your advice for years
ESPN doesn’t interest me because I’m an Angels fan and they don’t do much with the Angels. Period. Just about every time I surf the channels they aren’t covering baseball, much less the Angels. I don’t watch Sunday Night Baseball any more because I can’t stand Joe Ego. Over the years you lose the desire to expect anything out of them.
I am a SoCal native, which is why I’m an Angels fan. But I now live in the Central Time Zone, and it is more convenient for baseball fans here to follow teams that play in prime time. All-Star Game voting suffers because a lot of fans haven’t seen the Angels play and if so, only once or twice. That’s why I think Pacific and Mountain teams should compete with one another and develop rivalries. If 1/3 of the population loses interest in ESPN they might have to make some concessions they aren’t making now.
