MLB.TV on PS3
A new PS3 app is supposed to be launched today that will allow subscribers to MLB.TV to access games via the PS3. LINKIE. (Halo tip to Sam Miller for the heads-up in Angels Blog)
For those of us "out-of-towners" (US and Canada only) who are not subject to "mlb blackout restrictions" this may be a cool new toy. I had to update my PS3 OS to access the PSStore. (Guess we're a little behind the times in our house)
Thumbs down to Sony for announcing this before the app was actually live and usable. Hopefully sometime today this will actually work so we can review it more thoroughly. As of 1:25pm PDT it does not work yet.
I think this is a really cool idea...hope it works. What do you think?
*** 7pm update *** It seems to work and the picture quality is HD. Further update as available. Let's me kick Extra Innings to the curb. :)
I DO NOT work for Sony and am in no way affiliated with Sony. When someone comes up with something cool that makes my life easier or saves me money I like to share with my fellow Halo fans.

Who is ths PS3 kid?
He ever gonna get called up to the bigs? Lotta you kids talking about him but I never seen footage, is he a pitcher, a batter, an android?
If you live in Oregon, and only get Halo games on TV when they play the Mariners, you already own a PS3, and are tired of watching games on your computer, you'd care.

Damn right
I live in DC, and watch every game on my computer, even though they usually end after 1am. This is very cool. Thanks for keeping us informed, K3YEROUT!
Maybe they announced it early so everyone will buy the app. and or a PS3
before it actually comes on and these people find out it plays shitty or not at all on some days (knowing the quality of MLB. TV as it is.)

I stream movies via my PS3/Netflix and the quality has been pretty decent so I am hopeful this app will work too…if I read this correctly they are going to stream HD too…still not working yet today, but hey…not trying to defend them.
When you live out of area and want to watch your team the Directv Extra Innings package is great, but with this economy it is spendy…since I already buy the MLB.TV package I found this potentially very very interesting…

I watch MLB.tv on my Roku

The HD feeds look great, though they do have the occasional pixellation issue. This year’s channel isn’t fully finished yet, still in Beta with rebuffering problems, but the quality is vastly superior to MLB.tv on my computer.
Baseball's back!
I will not buy a PS3, nor any electronic equipment labelled "Sony".
If Sony is so convinced that I am a criminal that they feel they can hack my computer with impunity, then they don’t get my money.

Two Thumbs Up
I connect MLB.tv to my televison via a VGA cable already, but this would allow me to watch the Halos on the bigscreen AND use my laptop at the same time. Plus no cords! Now if only I had a PS3…..

Not quite HD, but not bad

The opiate of the masses is spectator sports. What else explains the astounding fact that millions of seemingly intelligent human beings feel that the athletic exertions of total strangers are somehow consequential for themselves?
No extra cost if you already have a PS3 and an MLB.TV account...
since I have both already this works really well for me…and no more hooking up the computer to the TV. I like it so far!

Yup it runs either $99.95 or $119.95. I like the flexibility that you can be anywhere to watch or listen to mlb.tv or audio rather than tied to your TV for Extra Innings…
On the other hand, Extra Innings runs $199 now.
Ok, nearly anywhere, due to blackout restrictions…these are a travesty!

Haha
the instant backlash by the elders against new technology is hilarious
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

So I downloaded it for my PS3
and wow I’m impressed. I still think I’ll watch it more on my laptop because I like watching 4 games at once and even connecting that to my big screen via HDMI, but if I just want to watch the Mariners or something then that is a sweet app.
Do you think this will come out for the WII?

Wii isn't really much of a processing powerhouse
I doubt it could run a HD feed
interesting question...
Someone asked about Xbox too. I have no idea, but I do know Netflix streams movies to the Wii now so it may be possible. You may not get the HD that the PS3 gives u…time will tell I guess. Sony simply dropped this nice little bomb the day it went active.
