Hello everyone
Welcome to Brandon Wood’s breakout game.
"He’s not a Rhodes Scholar to begin with, obviously." -Theo Epstein talking about Jon Papelbon.
"OMG, I think I'm gonna barf!" Halowood's reaction to Fuentes facing a Right Handed Batter.
Exactly!
I mean there’s no way he’s as bad as his numbers say. He’s been making good contact. I figure if I say it every night, I’ll eventually be right.

How Wood follows up his performance yesterday. His first AB may be telling of if he’s feeling confident.

When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!
by Dono Romantico on Apr 26, 2010 7:31 PM PDT up reply actions
see: wikipedia
The use of “K” for a strikeout was invented by Henry Chadwick, a newspaper journalist who is widely credited as the originator of the box score and the baseball scorecard. Both the box score and scorecard persist largely unchanged to this day, as the game itself is largely unchanged except for the number of balls and strikes allowed to the pitcher and batter. The letter “S” was used to coin “sacrifice” so Chadwick decided to use “K”, with “K” being the last letter in “struck.” Chadwick also invented many other baseball scoring abbreviations, such as using numbers to designate player positions (progressing from the batter, pitcher 1 and catcher 2, through the infield, with the shortstop counted after the basemen, at number 6, to the right fielder 9).2

I got Odd Man Out the other day. I’m about half way through and I don’t think I’ve laughed so much reading in a long time
God, what a terrible first inning for the Angels
is anyone else tired of this bullshit?
-Aybar not getting himself in a position to be driven in by the big hitters by swinging away early in the count
-Abreu continues to water down his ISO by hitting cheap singles
-Hunter CONTINUES to not drive people in
-Matsui leaves at least half of all runners in scoring position
-Rivera goes another quick 3-pitch at-bat
The only damn bright side to this team seems to be Morales stretching out a five pitch at-bat.
God this team is pathetic.

Last year, sure he was worth 9 million. But in 3 years if his option vests will he? I have a hard time picturing him swiping 30 bags and knocking 15-20 HR’s and batting .300 which should be about 9 million at age 39, let alone 36 or 37.

Gotta say
pitcher is on the ropes early, he’s already given up 3 runs, he’s getting battered around, a guy who homered his first time up comes up…don’t go small ball, Mike. Let him swing away and keep the pressure applied. Worst case scenario with Aybar’s speed is likely NOT a double play…it’s probably a strikeout.

bring on the robots
why do they advertise that their cameras are accurate to within an inch and then play games with people that could only DREAM of being accurate to within like 5 inches….. so absurd.
I am all in favor of this, but
…Gameday had every pitch on the outside corner against Abrew…K3yerout, sit down, and all that!
QuitcherbitchinaboutWoodandcheerfortheguy
the in game k zone had the one that Bobby really didn't like at least like 3 or 4 inches outside
which one you using?
hmmm maybe the robots have kinks
but I’d rather have kinks than ineptitude and attitudes, and oh yea 200k per year paychecks…..
Just fyi, I am probably as big of a supporter as there is on here for automating balls and strikes...
QuitcherbitchinaboutWoodandcheerfortheguy
yea it just makes too much sense long term.
if Selig things anyone goes to the games wanting to see umpires I think he should take some polls.
of course I think there will still be umpires in uniform
even if they automate balls and strikes. I think eventually they will work it in like they do in tennis. The player has a set number of times that they can challenge calls and it takes hardly any time at all, if they don’t challenge then the calls stands as called.
The robot can call the balls and strikes...
and the ump can still be behind the plate with a bluetooth in his ear getting the call from the robot. Ump still makes the call, nobody needs to even know…

You still wouldn’t call it legitimate.

so would you have ruled his 2B a 2B or a single....
be honest…..
It was a double
The only reason it looked different is because Thames made a show-dive to try to get it. That would have simply dropped in front of almost anyone else, including Rivera, and come nowhere near his glove.
Light up that halo! RIP, Nick.
yea it was a ball that would have dropped in front of an outfielder
who made a throw home which was cutoff and Wood beat the throw to 2nd. If he throws directly to 2nd there is NO WAY he makes it safely.
That's okay. Home runs are "rally killers". (sarcasm)

but i’ll watch my bolds. i’ve been here for about a year and i’m still learning the ins and outs of proper gamethread etiquette.
yea especially when Kohn was our best reliever this spring
pitched in a ton of games and is all the way down in AA.
What is up
with the bullpen and walks. Kazmir gives up less walks then this. The only guys I trust from the bullpen to throw shutout innings are Jepsen and Rodney. Maybe Shields.
