We're 1-3, but it's only the first series and we shouldn't put too much emphasis on it. There's still 158 more games to go (hopefully more!) and there's plenty of room to improve and get ourselves back on the winning track. I'm not panicking at the 3 losses, but I do believe it's a small indication of certain things to come.
I want to make it clear that I don't think we suck or that the season is lost, but it's a little depressing to see the team start out this way. Obviously you can't pull much from 4 games, but hell, I can try.
1. We have a deeper bullpen.
The bullpen might lack some "star power" and consistency, but I feel sosh has many different weapons to go to then last year. With Stokes, Rodney, and Shields coming back from injury, there's no longer a dependence on the improving, yet sometimes shaky, Bulger and Jepsen. The key here is staying healthy.
2. Aybar looks to be an apt leadoff man.
IMO, Aybar has looked "solid" to say the least in the leadoff spot. It's nice to know we won't be losing too much without figgins bein there. I'm very comfortable with Aybar being there throughout the season.
3. A lot of our offensive output depends on Brandon Wood.
I just happen to think that Wood is the largest variable within our offense this season. I can see Wood both struggling or soaring throughout the season. If Wood can find a way to move his minor league play to the bigs, I think our offense is exponentially better. If Wood struggles, our offense might struggle a little along with it.
4. The Twins are good.
The Twins proved, to me at least, that they are for real. Their offense is something to be reckoned with, especially with Mauer and Morneau being a very very good 1-2 punch. It's comforting to know Mauer won't be a Yankee or on the Bosux too.
5. Granderson could have come in handy in this series.
I said it.
