BOB CLEAR, R.I.P.
Bob Clear - former Angel minor league manager and bench coach from 1976 to 1987 - died on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. He was 82 years old. Services are scheduled for tomorrow.
I didn't hear any announcement of this on any of the Angels media outlets. Anyone know how to contact Angels Media Dept. and advise of his passing? This should be acknowledged by the Angels organization.

Uncle to Mark
"I can't tell people what to think or not to think. Their perceptions are their perceptions. We just feel we've taken a step forward. At the end of the day, we have to play 162 games. Once that happens then we'll be able to evaluate the offseason moves."~Tony Reagins, on the Angels' offseason

I heard mention of it on one of the broadcasts...don't remember which one
Quitcherbitchinaboutwoodandcheerfortheguy
It made it on to the Rays' page
Because apparently Joe Maddon had some words to say about him.
Apparently he’s credited with making Troy Percival into a pitcher (from catcher), in which case…damn.
RIP, Bob.

I was stunned to see that his passing was deemed to be so un-newsworthy
when I saw buried at the bottom of an article in Tuesday’s LA Times:
Short Hops
Bob Clear, an Angels coach and minor league manager from 1976-87, died Tuesday at age 82 after a long battle with a heart condition. . . . The Angels will fly 50,509 air miles in 2010, most in the major leagues. The Chicago White Sox will fly the least, 22,832 miles.
"All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine."
That's a pretty massive mileage disparity
but I guess it makes sense that a team in the Central would fly the least.

Yep.
If we had the complete list, my money would be on all the central teams being among the lowest mielage, and all the coastal teams among the highest. It’s intuitively obvious, whcih makes bundling those trivial and meaningless factoids with the passage of a local sports member rather cheesy.
"God watches over drunks and third baseman." - the Immortal Leo Durocher, predicting the coming of Brandon Wood...
this is what will ultimately lead to league realignment
when oil goes up and stays up for more the a cyclical few months, it will make sense to divide up baseball like the NBA – east and west.
And despite tradition being left behind, it will be awesome. Imagine being in a division race with the Dodgers. Imagine a World Series with the Yankees.
Thanks you Saudi Arabia, may I have another.
