Ariel Peña (who?) Tosses a Gem for Rancho
Rancho wins 1-0 shutout in extra innings
Looks like he was brought up to replace Smith in the rotation. 20 years old out of the Dominican Republic, his numbers don't look bad in rookie ball. I'm wondering if RGHAN or anyone else has anything on this kid.
This further leads into the speculation that Will Smith's trip to AAA may be very temporary, as Peña never went through Cedar Rapids and if the move were more long term, we'd probably see Richards or Kehrer in Rancho instead of Peña. That is only speculation though.

Ariel Pena...
Led the superb 2008 DSL rotation, which included Fabio Martinez Mesa, Orangel Arenas, and Baudilio Lopez, in innings pitched. He K’d more than a batter an inning that year, and nearly accomplished the feet again last year in the ASL with 47 in 49.1 IP. At 6’3", 186 lbs, he’s projectable, he has decent command, but is the most flyball prone of the DSL group. It will be interesting to see where that trend goes in the Cal League.
The Halos still have some interesting arms kicking around in extended spring training — Josh Blanco and Baudilio Lopez are the young guns, but they have Pioneer alum Stephen Locke, Carson Andrew, and Jonathan Garrett as well — so Pena’s promotion is an indication that the Halos’ brass thinks pretty highly of him.
three quarters arm slot
Throws across his body, like Jered Weaver, and spins off the mound in his follow through. He has a slider, but I haven’t seen it enough to say how good it is, and I’ve got no idea about his change.
Thanks for this info!
They must think highly of him as you said.

Another question for rghan or whoever is in the know...
What has happened to Pil Joon Jang? He started one game, but doesn’t seem to be on the Quakes roster anymore. Is he injured? Or has he been moved somewhere else.

I've been wondering the same thing.

Our division is so weak this year
that we should be bringing up our young talent, and if they perform, then they stay! And players like Q can quit hogging up a spot for a rising star. I personally don’t give a flying F how much a player is getting paid. If he’s slumping or underperforming, then sit his ass down and let our young guys have a shot.
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

What does that have anything to do with this thread.
There’s 50 other threads you can spit your stupid rant at, go find one of those. This thread is about a kid who just got promoted to A ball. This is still 3 or 4 years away from what you’re complaining about.
